I will be spending around 22/23 days in Myanmar from Wednesday, arriving in Yangon . As for most of SEA, I have a 'rough' plan (you simply never know what might occur re. transportation, who you meet etc) and would any recommendations/pointers.
Day 1: Arrive Yangon at 11pm
Day 2: Yangon
Day 3: Yangon (overnight bus to Mandalay )
Day 4: Mandalay
Day 5: Manalay (outskirts)
Day 6: Hsipaw
Day 7&8: Hsipaw (trekking)
Day 9: Pyin Oo Lwin
Day 10: Pyin Oo Lwin (overnight bus to Kalaw ...
Hi there! I just want to know if anyone here knows an agent or a hotel that can help us get bus tickets to Bagan from Yangon on April 10 (and conversely from Bagan to Yangon on April 12).
JJ Express already told me that online reservation is not possible before, during and a few days after Thingyan. I might consider riding their train but I really prefer to take a bus.
Also, anyone here who will be traveling to Myanmar on April 9-13 please let me know. I am traveling with a friend and ...
How safe is Yangon for a solo female traveler? I'm doing a trip to Laos arriving in Bangkok and will be there several days before my traveling companions. We've already planned on several days in Bangkok so I'm looking at going somewhere different. I was thinking a quick visit to Yangon would be great (3 days). I've traveled alone before but only in the States. Would you recommend this?
My other option would be Siem Reap for those few days. Appreciate your advice.
Hey Travelfish Community,
I am headed back on the road for a brief 3 week trip to Burma (with a day stopover in Bangkok). Below is a draft itinerary. I am looking for feedback on timing, if there are things that should be added/ removed, and/or reorganized to make for easier travels.
About me: I am a 25 year old guy who has traveled throughout southeast asia and central america. I like to stay at mostly budget hostels, and guesthouses and try to eat at mostly 'local' places. I will be travelin ...
I found it difficult to get a clear answer on what kind of currency I would need in Myanmar but now I know, after spending one month there. This info might be useful for your trip.
I used my Visa Debit Card (which I use in Canada to debit my checking account) at ATMs to get kyat. Unless you are going to a remote area, there should be an ATM in the town.
The maximum I could take out was 300,000 (about $300.00 USD) per day and there was a fee"¦.sorry can't remember the amount). I'd be g ...
I'll be travelling to Burma on Saturday for two weeks, and was wondering if it is currently possible to exchange Japanese yen to kyat (at Yangon Airport or in town)?
I understand the most common currencies are EUR, USD and SGD - otherwise I'll try to exchange JPY for USD, but would obviously like to avoid the extra currency exchange fees.
I am trying to plan a trip to Myanmar some time this year and would like to hear helpful opinions and input from all of you.
I am planning to travel as follows and assuming that I will be travelling using bus instead of plane.
Would the following route be good enough?
Yangon (i will be arriving here) - Bagan - Mandalay - Inle
Or would i be better off traveling from Yangon to Mandalay first then Bagan and Inle?
Also, I am planning to include the train through Goteik Viaduct too ...
Read some news about recent violent attack on a military convoy between Hsipaw and Kyaukme. Does anyone have recent contact or experience in that area? Does it affect or have influence in everyday life around Hsipaw, trekking to close villages is currently not an option or how? If there are or might be in near future restrictions for moving around + a threat ending up in between some attack then I guess it's not wise to stick my nose in that area at the moment? I was planing to do some trek ...
I need info on bus travel.
My route is Yangon to Pyay which I believe is 6 hours by bus,
Then from Pyay to Bagan which I believe there is only 1 bus per day 17:00 arriving at 03:00
Then Bagan to Mandaly
but i don't know the times or prices, quality, so any help would be appreciated so I can plan my visit
round the bus schedules.
Also this route is fairly fixed.
I couldn't find a clear answer on overstaying a 28 day tourist visa for Myanmar before my trip; I felt uncomfortable disobeying the law in a country like Myanmar without a clear answer: however after talking to locals, people in the tourist industry, another traveler who obtained advice from the Myanmar embassy in Canada, I learned that the immigration authorities are happy to collect a fine from travellers for overstaying.
PLUS, there was a notice to travellers posted on a large sign a ...
Our trip ends in Chiang rai in mid december but we thought, mmmmmmmmmmm, could we make a swing thru Burma and across to Bangkok instead of just getting the bus/train back to BKK?
Is there a decent route that you would recommend we could take for say 7-10 days??? ...
First time visit to Myanmar. Tentative plan as followed:
Day 1: Arrival Yangon .
Day 2: Inle Lake (by air if possible)
Day 4: Return Yangon (by air if possible)
Day 6: Depart Yangon
Here's my biggest concern; air safety for domestic airline. Recent research into this topic doesn't engender confidence. Would love to hear from Burmese expert on this. I do notice that most of the planes grounded in the reports are Chinese-made. So any domestic airline for consideration would need to hav ...
I'm planning to travel to Myanmar by land - through Myawaddy / Mae Sot border crossing. Want to go to Mawlamyine. Did some research and discovered that the route is alternate day one-way, thus buses go there every second day only. I just wonder if there is a place on earth where I could check on what days they go? I guess I could find that out at some travel agency near the border in Thailand... but not too sure what to do with hostel booking then, since I would find it out only a day ...
I am thinking about taking a trip to Burma in November this year for around 3 weeks. It's my first time in Burma so will be doing the 'big four' for a reasonable amount of time in each place. In addition I would either like to visit Pwin Oo Lwin/Hsipaw or Mawlamyine/Hpa An (probably Golden Rock too if there's time). Timewise, it's a case of one or the other, so I was really wondering which place was best. I am also a solo female traveller so if it was going to be really isolated of a ...
I am traveling from Mandalay to Hsipaw on Dec 23rd and returning to Mandalay on December 26th. My current plan is to catch a bus/taxi from Mandalay to Hsipaw, stay one night. then catch the train at 9:30am to Pyin Oo Lwin and stay there two nights before heading back to Mandalay.
A few questions for anyone who has been in this area:
1) Is this plan a good one or is it better to catch the train out of Mandalay and take the long day trip? And then catch a bus/taxi back to Pyin Oo Lwin. Can I b ...
as there are always questions poping up for Visa on Myanmar here is my experience with eVisa service. I applied for eVisa today: It is very easy. Fill in a form with your personal information, upload a foto and pay by creditcard. I submitted the form at 16:22 and received my confirmed approval letter at 16:39. So wow thats fast and easy.....
Maybe someone of the travelfish team wants to update the visa information for Burma as I couldn't find eVisa mentioned anywhere on travelfish.
We are planning a trip late February to Burma.Looking at travel options we wondered if anyone had any experiences in using a private car and driver for some of the journeys to allow us to interact more with locals. We have contacted a local agent in Yangon and $650 quoted for 3days seems very expensive, he also quoted $2000 for 14 days. Any help greatly appreciate.
Hi travellers, going to Burma last week of July 2015.
