Travel Agent Recommendation for Burma / Myanmar

Posted by RJB2288 on 3/2/2016 at 09:15

Hello - I'm looking for recommendations for a travel agent that can both plan, coordinate, and book a 1.5/2 week trip for some friends and I in Burma. We would like a mix of both the main attractions and cool, off-the-beaten path locations. Also, we don't need to stay at super fancy places and would like to keep costs down. I normally like to plan things myself or just go day by day, but this is a last min trip so I don't have much time to research and I'm going with a bigger group than norm ...

Posted by Pb2484 on 22/1/2016 at 05:31

Hi We had a good look around the main travel route in Burma 2 years ago and now we want to experiece the southern area. We are looking to fly from KL to Phuket and head straight up to Ranong to go over to Kawthong. From there we have no plans yet. We have read about Myeik, the archipelago, Dawei, Mawlamyine, Hpa-An and we love Yangon . We want to experience great beaches (we can hire motorbikes), and look forward to visiting towns and villages to explore and enjoy the culture and food. 2 ...

How to get to Southern Myanmar and its Beaches

Posted by relaxedTrev on 20/11/2013 at 09:26

The 2013/14 summer is the first time in 50 years that overland travel on along this lush coast has been permitted. Here is how to get there....by intercity bus, flight, train or boat. Before you ask, unfortunately the Mergui Islands are still restricted to those with prior permission from Nay Pyi Daw (as at Nov 13), but the mainland has plenty of history, culture and barely discovered beaches for the adventurous to enjoy. Maung Ma Kan, Nebule, Myawyik Island, She Moe, Palaw beaches just to name ...

Off the Beaten Path Cafe Yangon

Posted by GildGomes on 6/1/2016 at 09:18

First , if you ask the taxi driver to drop you off by the Chatrium Hotel you will have to walk like 10 min, better to stop by the Hotel Esperado ( google for some reason shows different). Park charges MYK 200 entrance fee. I was expecting a travel cafe ( as it is advertised ) to get some information but there is no wifi , no books around and no drinks on the menu, only Myanmar beer. Also there was only one couple there. When I asked for the bill only the food was listed, with the tax and the beer ...

Itinerary Advice?

Posted by rabbit45 on 22/12/2015 at 19:57

Hello all, I'm new to Travelfish - having exhausted a lot of the information over on TA. Husband and I are early 30s, active, interested in local culture, nature, and food. This is our first stop on a two month trip. I'm looking for some feedback on our late June/early July itinerary to Myanmar. Would you add or remove days anywhere? Does the order make sense? Any advice on the best way to travel between destinations? I'd be interested in any worthwhile side trips or any other cities to h ...

Internal Burma flights? & money?

Posted by FernR on 10/11/2015 at 10:04

Does anyone have current information on the best way to book the well-traveled internal Burma flights? (I'm looking for Hanoi to Yangon , Yangon to Bagan , Bagan to Inle Lake, Inle Lake back to Bangkok.) Is there still a Discover Myanmar pass? Is it possible to book this all online, or do I need to go through a travel agent? Also--what's the current story with money in Burma? Still need to bring crisp unwrinkled US dollars, or possible to find ATMs and use credit cards? I've looked all ...

Travel round the Ayeyarwady region

Posted by adgilcan on 30/11/2015 at 07:42

Hi all I am planning a trip to Pathein and other towns in the Ayeyarwady region. Apart from Pathein, it is well off the beaten track and I can't find any information on it. I wondered if anyone on this esteemed site had any knowledge or information on where to stay in the following towns: Kyonpyaw, Kyaunggon, Panatanaw and Myaungmya. I will have local help but in terms of planning, I'd like a vague idea of what is available. Many thanks for any help you may be able to offer. ...

Dawei is overlooked

Posted by DaweiBeach on 28/11/2015 at 04:28

I have been to a lot of places in Myanmar but the area surrounding Dawei has easily been the best. Of course it is all up to what you like personally, but since I am into exploring things by motorbike and also like beaches and nature, the Dawei area is second to none. In fact I don't think that I liked any area inSouth-East Asia as much as the Dawei area. You could probably spend weeks inthe area and not run out of places that are worth exploring. There are beaches everywhere, north of Da ...

Malaria recommendations in Yangon, Bagan and Inle Lake

Posted by larsness on 16/11/2015 at 04:55

Hello fellow travellers. We (two adults and two children aged 15 and 11) are travelling to Yangon, Inle Lake and Bagan this December. We have been trying to assess whether malaria medicine is required. The Internet has quite a lot of information, but no clear consensus - except for Yangon. We have understood that it is not required there, but are unsure about Bagan and Inle Lake. Can someone that knows this well share their knowledge? Malaria medicine - or is it enough with mosquito repellent? ...

3 Days in Rangon

Posted by FrankieC on 7/11/2015 at 14:01

Hi there, me and my wife will be visiting Myanmar in the last week of this month and will stay 2 nights in a hotel at the city centre. The hotel will charge US$30 for the airport pickup. As it will be our first time visiting this country and our flight will arrive late in the evening, I will appreciate if anyone can let me know how much by taxi from Mingaladon Airport to the city centre. Will it be safe for us to call a taxi from outside the airport myself? Many thanks. ...

Average day and night temperatures in Yangon, Bagan and Inle Lake

Posted by larsness on 8/10/2015 at 16:30

Hello. We are travelling to the mentioned sites in mid-December. As we are travelling with children we want to know what to pack. I know that it is very little rain in this period, but there are so many different temperature averages stated on different web sites that we are left unsure. Can someone who has been there give the approximate day- and night averages, please? Thanks. ...

Burma or Myanmar?

Posted by somtam2000 on 5/9/2015 at 19:55

Almost as well trodden as the traveller or tourist discussion, the Burma or Myanmar debate is back in the news this week thanks to the Guardian making the switch. Our use on Travelfish of Burma (rather than Myanmar) is, alongside "Why don't you cover the Philippines", one of the most common reasons people email me! So I thought I'd pre-empt emails pointing out that the Guardian has changed and so isn't it time for Travelfish too, just to note that we're sticking with Burma, primarily ...

Travel plans in MYANMAR

Posted by Barbaragreece on 29/8/2015 at 12:39

I am trying to arrange internal travel for our upcoming trip to Myanmar in Oct -Dec, and I would like some advice as to the feasibility of my plans. 1. Is it possible to leave Mrauk U in the morning on an early (7am?) boat, fly from Sittwe to Yangon , and then transfer for a flight to Mandalay ? And if it's possible, how much time should we allow between flights? 2. Anyone have a current idea as to the comfort level of the boats that go from Mandalay to Bagan? I'm not considering ...
