Effordable international school in Phnom Phen?

Posted by thewayitis on 22/4/2010 at 02:26

Hi all, anybody have an advice? The ones we saw in the internet are serveral thousand $$$ per year. We know a good one in Sihanoukville for 35$ per month and would be glad to find a correspondent in Phnom Phen in this price range. Another solution would be to choose a more expensive one and get a discount through an employment as english teacher. We arrive in Cambodia end of August and will stay probably for good, but at least a couple of years and are looking for work in this field anyway. Postage Stamp Scam

Posted by borisborough on 1/2/2010 at 02:43

I'm not sure anyone else has experienced this but it seems like the postal workers at the post office in Shanook Bvd in Phnom Penh are working a scam on tourists. I wanted to post three written postcards (yes, old-fashioned but it's what the oldies want) from Cambodia to the UK and New Zealand. The board behind the counter clearly states that postcard stamps to Europe and Oceania are 2800r and that America is 3000r. When I requested three postcard stamps for Europe I was asked for 9000r ...

Bag Snatching in Phnom Penh

Posted by themildcat on 19/4/2010 at 16:11

A warning to you all, especially girls with shoulder bags. Mine was physically ripped off my body by two guys on a moto. It had my passport and all my credit cards etc in it. I know there are warnings about this but my bag strap was quite thick, maybe they even sliced it. A scarier thought. When I went to the embassy it was full of other people trying to get a new passport because they too had been bag snatched. It's rife. Leave your **** at home!!! ...

Recent Preah Vihear experiences?

Posted by Lother on 24/4/2010 at 04:15

Has anybody been to Prasat Preah Vihear recently from the Cambodian side? We're planning to check out NW Cambodia and Preah Vihear in early July and are wondering about the best route and conditions during the wet season. The plan is to travel to Tbeng Meanchey and continue from there to Anlong Veng and onwards to Thailand, but is it then better to visit Preah Vihear from TB or AV? ...

12 days trip: Cambodia or Vietnam?

Posted by manols on 4/5/2010 at 18:47

Hello everyone, I have a break of 12 days and wants to travel to South East Asia. Departure: 10 May! I'm based in HK at the moment and checked the flights fares, best deal for me would be to go to Hanoi or Pnom Penh through Singapore.. I have only 12 days.. Short! For Vietnam, my plan would be to start in Hanoi & surroundings to Saigon.. I am a bit afraid it's gonna be short though, then thinking to stop in mid-way and go reverse? What do you think? For Cambodia, as I believe it ...

As part of a trip to Asia, I spent 2 weeks travelling down through Cambodia with my girlfriend, both very easygoing, in our mid twenties and our budget was about 30-35 dollars a day… Our route was from Bangkok – Aranyprathet/Poipet – Siem Reap – Phnom Penh – Kampot – Kep – Rabbit Island – Phnom Penh. 28th June 6am train from Bangkok To Aranyrathet, a pleasant journey through the Thailand countryside which takes approx 5 hours and cost 48 baht. Best way to see Angkor Temples with a 4 yr old?

Posted by ZPeppiatt on 15/4/2010 at 06:11

Hi, Had a quick look and couldn't find anything about this, so sorry if it's been posted before. We're planning on spending about a week in Siem Reap late May/early June - it's just the two of us and our 4 yr old son. The plan is to take it very easy, seeing a few of the 'main' temples over 2 or 3 days, broken up with days in Siem Reap so it's not temples, temples, temples for little 'un. I'd prefer to cycle round if possible, but not sure how feasible this would be with a 4yo. Does a ...

Independence Beach Sihanoukville

Posted by criss1 on 6/5/2010 at 20:55

I plan to stay at the Independence Hotel for 7 days in January with my wife (we are both 60ish) but your travel guide suggests that much of the nearby beach is closed to the public pending 'construction'. Has anyone been there recently or know whats going on & whether any of this is likely to spoil being in what is hoped to be a quiet part of Sihanoukville (especially as it costs more money to stay here). We are trying to be some distance away from where there's lots of nightlife or noisy area ...

Siem Reap Tour Rate

Posted by Babalugats on 17/5/2010 at 18:47

I plan to visit Angkor Thom, Bayon, Terrace of the Elephants and Ta Phrom next month (June 17 to be specific). I met a tuk tuk driver on Facebook who said that his price for that itinerary is 15 US dollars. It will be my first time to visit Siem Reap, so I have no idea if his rate is reasonable or not. I'll appreciate your replies on this. Thank you. ...

Discovery Pass or Excersion Fare with Lao Airlines

Posted by waymaur on 7/6/2010 at 19:30

WE will be in Siam Reap in July and want to fly to Luang Prabang for a few days then on to Hanoi. The Thai airlines office in Australia says we have to fly one leg with Thai Airlines to take advantage of Discovery Pass. This makes an extra trip and would be more expensive. Lao Airlines has an Excersion Pass between the destinations but inform us that we must purchase tickets at one of their offices in Asia. Is this true or can Excersion Pass be purchased from travel agents in Australia? ...

Getting a visa for China in Cambodia?

Posted by sunwreck on 10/6/2010 at 09:10

U.S passport holder. Is it viable to get a Chinese visa from the Chinese consulate in Phnom Penh as opposed to going all the way to HCMC? I've had visas for China in the past even a two year visa when I was working there. I've just never tried obtaining a visa for China in SE Asia before and I can't find anything online about obtaining it from Cambodia so hopefully someone may have some first or second-hand experience they can share. Cheers! ...
