What to do in the evening in Siem Reap

Posted by asill73 on 20/1/2015 at 22:27

I'll be spending 4 nights staying in Siem Reap as part of my month long Indochina trip. Can anyone suggest some nice things to do in the evening? I travel with my wife, we're both food lovers and deep into our 40s. For now we only have intention to watch the Phare circus. Other than that, we haven't planned anything yet for the evening. Also, is there any activities that we could take part after sunset at Angkor Wat? Thanks ...

Community health volunteering

Posted by DrDreidal on 7/12/2014 at 10:32

Hi all, This is my first post here and I'm excited to have joined such a lovely travel community! My girlfriend and I recently booked tickets for a 6 month trip through SEA. We want to spend about one month volunteering in Cambodia. We want to be able to add something to the community where we will be staying, instead of potentially taking away opportunities from the local populace. I'm very interested in community health and health disparities and am looking to hopefully help implement new ...

7 Ways Cambodia Can Solve its Foreign Dude Problem

Posted by somtam2000 on 6/1/2014 at 20:36

Cambodia website Khmer 440 has a provocative piece titled "7 Ways Cambodia Can Solve its Foreign Dude Problem" The whole piece is well worth a read, but in summary, the suggestions are: 1. Impose gender-based visa fees 2. Ban foreign men from teaching Cambodian children 3. Only give long term visas to foreigners with jobs, businesses, or spouses in Cambodia 4. Interrogate and search single male travellers on arrival 5. Stop giving visas on arrival to Africans 6. Criminalise extramari ...

CAN THO to KAMPOT via HA TIEN

Posted by michien on 6/1/2015 at 21:15

Hi there, I am looking to travel as above and hoping someone might have some recent info & advice. My questions are: Are all buses to Ha Tien via Rach Gia or is there a direct line? What is the current cost & travel time? I will be travelling with my 10 year old son, is Ha Tien or Rach Gia a better place to over night before crossing the border? Or is it feasible to push on over the border and get to Kampot in a day? I was thinking of hiring a moto for crossing the border and t ...

Hi there, my friend and I are keen to go to koh rong for new year and we are having trouble finding accommodation in ko tui where we'd like to party. The only thing we can come is green ocean guesthouse bit we are unable to find any reviews for it so we're a bit concerned. Had anyone stayed there or seen any reviews? Our alternative is to go to stay at palm beach on the north east of the island but we worry nothing will be going on for new year. Has anyone been to either and experienced how eas ...

Where to stay in Siem Reap? Should activities be booked ahead?

Posted by remsam on 8/11/2014 at 23:11

I am visiting Siem Reap for 5 nights next month with my mother and could really use some advice about where to stay and what to reserve ahead of time. My mom and I will be there around Christmas time (which I know is high season). Should I try to reserve any day tours, activities (bike tours, cooking classes, etc), or tuk-tuk drivers ahead or just wait until I arrive? I have done a huge amount of reading about areas and different hotels I'm having a really hard time making a final decision. ...

Craving for Alcoholic Milkshake in Phnom Penh?

Posted by jorjaft on 2/12/2014 at 11:26

Alcohol + Milkshake = Best of both World! Came across this little milkshake bar named ''Milky Way", tucked away in a quiet street filled with expatriates. I think its at the street behind Malis restaurant , St 308) Its a small little shop but its has a warm and homely feel to it. Ordered one of their signature drink named " Frozen Mudslide" ( I think it was vanilla ice cream with diff kind of alcohol mixed into it). Definitely a good way to ease off the swearing heat of Phnom Pe ...

Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville - Avoid \

Posted by Augustots on 1/12/2014 at 22:06

I've just got a really bad experience with this company! I've choose Giant Ibis because of its respectable reputation that I've seen from many reviews on internet...Even tough the price was a bit higher than other companies, I thought It would worth. I bought my tickets from Phnom Penh to Sihanoukvile 2 days in advance so I thought I wouldn't have any problem. I was wrong... The bus would leave PP at 9:30 am so they told me they would pick me up at 8:30 in my hotel. I woke up at 7:30, so then ...

I've heard that the new, direct bus route between Bangkok and SR was launched. I was wondering if anyone took it? ow long does it take and how do they sort visa issues at the Cambodian border? Is it any faster than other methods? What the best value for money & time to do the travel? (flight for us is too expensive). Is it best to do the train/bus or bus/bus journey? Would appreciate any comments. ...
