I've been reading recently that a lot of places now accept USD and the Riel. Any suggestions on what currency is better to use? If using USD should I mainly bring small bills? I have heard no torn or marked up bills will be accepted. We will be going into Laos as well, does anyone know if its the same there? TIA ...

Hi all, We are a family of five and new to overseas travel. So we decided our first adventure would be Cambodia as my husband has recently visited the country with work. The kids are 15,13 & 11. We fly into Siem Reap, and over 2 weeks would like our trip to go something like this SR - Preah Vihear-Stung Treng- Kratie-Sen Monorom - SR. A new trek on offer in Virachey

Posted by gregmccann1 on 28/9/2015 at 10:11

The Virachey National Park staff has created a new trek to the little known Mera Mountain-Yak Yeuk Grasslands area up near the Lao border. This trek begins in Voen Sai district in a Kavet village on the O Lai Lai River and takes you up to the border mountains where only one tour group has ever been (that group consisting of myself and birder Howie Nielsen in 2013). If you want to get way off the beaten path with incredible local guides who know all the stories, all the trails, all the animals, a ...

Cambodia - September 2015

Posted by Soe on 2/5/2015 at 11:15

I am planning a trip to Cambodia for early September - as of now I'm traveling solo (female) and even though I've done a fair amount of this in the past, it's been a while since I struck out on my own so I'm trying to decide between my own itinerary and something like joining an Intrepid tour. There's a tour that hits most of the places on the itinerary I put together (see below). I've priced out my accommodations and internal travel (I'm not on a super-tight budget, but not going high-end eithe ...

Temples of Angkor on a bicycle?

Posted by johan81 on 13/9/2015 at 12:03

Hi, I am going to Siem Reap in mid November and I am, of course, going to see the Temples of Angkor . I will stay in a hotel in Seim Reap. I do not like participating in group tours, I prefer to discover new places on my own so I can take my time. And I have read a lot and I would like to discover the temple area on a bicyle. Is it possible to hire a bicyle and do it on my own? Is it safe and easy? How long time will it take fron Siem Reap to Angkor Wat by bicyle and is it easy to navigate? ...

I have visited SR, Battambang , Kep and Kampot on previous trips and loved all of them. I am into history food and nature but do not want to (and am too unfit for) excessive amounts of walking or trekking. Thinking Paillin, or Sen Monorom, ...
