Poipet to Siem Reap (information on taxi transportation)

Posted by farsidetravel on 31/5/2009 at 18:21

I heard the road is now completed so travel from Poipet to Siem Reap is easier. The main concern I have is the taxi transportation. I heard that it is possible to avoid the taxi mafia (which charges $60) and try to find a non-mafia (non-association) taxi. I heard the rate is around $30. I read that after immigration and customs I can just walk down the street and find my own taxi. But the problem is that the taxi mafia will follow me and argue with anyone I talk with. This doesn't ...

How does this itinerary look to you???

Posted by misterwoods on 20/5/2009 at 23:49

We are a couple in our mid 20's, fairly fit and eager, and hoping to see and do as much as we can in 1 month. Our budget is approx 30 euros/40 dollars per day, plus a couple of hundred on top for extras (hoping to spend no more than about 1200 euros / 1650 dollars). Our accom will be 'flashpacker' - somewhere between budget and mid range! I have checked out all travel between places we want to go and have a good idea about it all. The only things we have booked ahead are accom in BKK on arri ...

20 Questions on Siem Reap

Posted by mindy on 19/4/2009 at 09:35

Ok, so 20 is a bit of an exaggeration but I do have quite a few. I'm heading to Vietnam for a trip through my university and when everyone else heads back to the USA I'm going to go to Cambodia - I refuse to fly to SE Asia and not see Angkor Wat. I'll be traveling from Ho Chi Minh to Siam Reap, ideally I'd like to take a bus but the travel agent advised against it. From what I've read the trip sounds safe so I think she might just be the unadventurous type that doesn't travel well with ...

Siem Reap Neighborhoods

I'm going to Siem Reap for the first time in early April and I am wondering what part of town to stay in. I've read the reviews of guest houses here and in several travel books, and it seems like there are various neighborhoods to stay in. If I am looking for an area that is pleasant and quiet but not too far out of the way, what would you recommend? I am in the $20 - $25 USD guesthouse range. Thanks. ...
