Air Fares

Posted by peachiest99 on 7/8/2007 at 18:01

The Bangkok Airlines Discovery Pass sounds like it is the cheap option for travelling by air between a few destinations, but I am having difficulty finding a travel agent who will arrange it. I have found the following other flights online: Vientiene to Phnom Pehn (AU$285), Phnom Pehn to Siem Reap (AU$90) and Siem Reap to Phuket (AU$250) - all in Jan next year. I was just wondering if these prices sound like they would be the best deals. Lao Airlines looks cheaper but seems a lot of hassle ...

Overstaying Visa

Posted by lexa on 3/8/2007 at 10:47

Does anyone have personal experience of overstaying their visa in Cambodia? I was unable to get a visa extension because I don't have enough pages in my passport, and can't quite get out of the country before the end of my visa (and the U.S. Embassy isn't open on Fridays!!). My overstay will be 5 days (maybe 4 if I can get out of work a bit early). I've seen info on these boards about a $5/day charge, as well as a potential $30 fine. Any corroborating information? Anyone overstay a Cambodian vis ...

What I wish I knew before the BKK - Siem Reap journey....

Posted by sunlover on 27/7/2007 at 10:32

1) There is a bus from Bangkok to the Cambodian border that is faster & more direct than the government bus. The CASINO bus leaves Bangkok just in front of the Lumpini Park (across from the HSBC bank). There are no signs but we asked around and managed to find it. We found out about it from a Chinese traveler, and I'm not sure many foreigners use it. In fact we were the only non-Vietnamese people on board. Everyone was very welcoming, and we even received some ice cold water. The cost was about ...

Visa on arrival at SR airport

Posted by Roving_Roo on 9/7/2007 at 17:34

Hi, It is well known that the border officials at the Poipet / Aranyaprathet border ask for 1,000 Baht rather than the official US$20, but I heard yesterday that upon flying in to Siem Reap airport the officials there also asked someone for 1,000B (refusing US$ as payment). I was under the impression that the airport took US$20 without a problem for the visa on arrival charge. Has anyone else had this happen? Is this a change on the part of the airport or is this the officials pocketing the e ...

This summer I will be travelling in Vietnam and Cambodia for 5 weeks starting from Hanoi and ending in Bangkok. I am considering to spend a few days on a beautiful beach before heading to Siem Reap and my final destination Bangkok. The options are Phu Quoc, Sihanoukville, Kep (Kampot/Bokor) and Kho Chang. However, the weather seems to be a major problem at the end of july and the beginning of august. Would you guys advise me to spend some more time in Mui Ne or Nha Trang and skip these destinati ...

The Associated Press Monday, June 25, 2007 PHNOM PENH, Cambodia: A chartered plane flying Monday between two popular tourist destinations in Cambodia has crashed, with at least 20 people on board feared killed, an aviation official said. The plane, a Russian-made AN-24, was flying from Siem Reap — where the famous Angkor Wat temple complex is located — to Sihanoukville, a coastal city with access to beaches, said Him Sarun, Cabinet chief for the Secretariat of Civil Aviation. An of ...
