Posted by sambrown on 13/7/2014 at 05:06

Progress in a good way or another step towards Southeast Asian cities becoming homogenised? Read our full post here. ...

Bringing my motorbike to Siem Reap...doable?

Posted by comtam3000 on 4/6/2014 at 03:48

I'll be traveling Cambodia on my 110 win starting tomorrow. I've read a few places on the net that riding in Siem Reap can get your bike impounded unless you pay a hefty fine. I was hoping to explore the Angkor temples myself by motorcycle. Has anyone else done this? Thanks in advance for your help. ...

Phnom Penh to Saigon 8 Days

Posted by kildare25 on 2/7/2014 at 15:17

Hello all. I was hoping to grab some advice on an 8 day trip from Phnom Penh to Saigon. Although I would like to see Siem Reap I think most would say it is too much travel. I fly into Phnom Penh and fly out of Saigon. What would be an ideal route and sites to see that would maximize my trip and avoid spending too much time on a bus? Much appreciated! ...

Kampong Chhnang, floating village worth it or no?

Posted by charlottex on 8/7/2014 at 10:16

Hi! I would like to know if it's worth it to make the journey to Kampong Chhnang to see the floating village? Has anyone done it? What else can we do around this town? How much should cost the boat trip and what do we do exactly during this trip? Do we stay on the boat or we can jump off and visit? Is there some operators who organises this little trip or we have to ask ourselves a fisherman with a boat? Thank you so much! ...

Free volunteer work in Cambodia

Posted by Phoenix66 on 15/5/2011 at 17:46

Hi, I'm planning to go to Cambodia sometime in September or October and was thinking of doing some volunteer work. I could be wrong but the most popular (and probably) rewarding work there seems to be teaching English or working in orphanages so I'd like to do that. I've found quite a few websites that offer this but they all charge at least £150 a week which seems like a rip off right? Therefore, I'd be really grateful if anyone knew of any organisations that were cheaper or ideally free, ...

Botum Sakor National Park destroyed

Posted by gregmccann1 on 22/6/2014 at 22:38

A Chinese developer has clear-cut 45,000 hectares of Botum Sakor National Park down in Koh Kong and evicted all families living there. I know a guy who lives down that way and he estimates about 80 wild elephants have been rendered homeless as a result of this project, and they are now coming into conflict with humans. It's sad that the original vision of preserving this area as a site of natural heritage of virgin jungle on the coast with wild beaches has been sold to a Chinese developer that ...

Taxi share August 4th to Siem Reap

Hey everyone! This is my second trip to Thailand and Cambodia, first was 8 years ago, this one is for my honeymoon! Me and my husband are arriving in Bangkok early on the 3rd August, and on the 4th want to go to Cambodia. We were thinking of possibly leaving on a bus later in the eve to save money, and just staying on the border in Aranyaprathet, but if there was anyone who was wanting to share a taxi with us to save costs that would be great as to possibly drive all the way to Siem Reap ! ...

Hey guys, I'm heading to Cambodia/Thailand in October this year. I'm planning on riding a push bike from somewhere near the border of Thailand/Cambodian to a destination on the South Eastern Coast of Thailand (approx. 300kms) Undecided on exact starting and finishing points yet ! Well this trek is going to take me 2-3 days (more likely 2 days) so I need find somewhere to stay overnight but i'm really struggling to find any accommodation in rural country quieter areas of Thailand. New Virachey trek

Posted by gregmccann1 on 20/2/2014 at 09:25

I recently completed my 5th trek in Virachey NP and Park Ranger Sou Soukern and I (info in the link provided below) have charted out a new path. In this new route (and this is for the 6-night/7-day Veal Thom Grasslands trek) you'll pass through Veal Thom when you arrive there but you'll camp out in the northern forests at a gorgeous waterfall/swimming hole (photos in the link) called D'dar Poom Chop. It should not add any time -or possibly just one day- to your trek, but it will take you to a tr ...

Is Phnom Penh worth the effort at the end of a long trip?

Posted by baza on 2/6/2014 at 20:24

We are taking our 4 children from NZ on a 19 day trip starting in Vietnam going from Sapa, Halong Bay & Hanoi through Hue and Hoi an down to the Mekong Delta. We then fly across to Siem Reap (to see Angkor Wat etc) from Ho Chi Minh city before heading back to NZ. My husband now wants to see Phnom Penh (just for a day he says!) as well as going to Siem Reap (which we have already booked to do). Our children are likely to be getting tired of travelling by this point and I ha ...

is it doable in a single day and how long would it take in early May? Information on this is quite old and we're looking for fresh info. I understand we need to take a shared taxi to Pailin border crossing and then continue to Chantaburi in order to get a bus to Trat. Is there any faster way (taxi) from Pailin to Trat? PHNOM PENH THINGS TO DO

Posted by charlottem92 on 20/5/2014 at 11:09

Any suggestions about what to do/see in Phnom Penh? And how long to spend there? I love Southeast-Asian cities, but I can't find a lot of information on Cambodia's capital. I know it isn't anything like Bangkok, but still. Is there some kind of 'khao san road' there (or just a place to meet fellow, young backpackers). Are there markets worth exploring? Off the beaten path things to do? Daytrips? I'm planning on staying two nights (too short?) but can easily extend my stay. Thanks for the feedba ...
