Finding Accommadation in rural areas

Posted by juzzywuzzy on 9/6/2014 at 23:43

Hey guys, I'm heading to Cambodia/Thailand in October this year. I'm planning on riding a push bike from somewhere near the border of Thailand/Cambodian to a destination on the South Eastern Coast of Thailand (approx. 300kms) Undecided on exact starting and finishing points yet ! Well this trek is going to take me 2-3 days (more likely 2 days) so I need find somewhere to stay overnight but i'm really struggling to find any accommodation in rural country quieter areas of Thailand. I have heard th ...

New Virachey trek

Posted by gregmccann1 on 20/2/2014 at 09:25

I recently completed my 5th trek in Virachey NP and Park Ranger Sou Soukern and I (info in the link provided below) have charted out a new path. In this new route (and this is for the 6-night/7-day Veal Thom Grasslands trek) you'll pass through Veal Thom when you arrive there but you'll camp out in the northern forests at a gorgeous waterfall/swimming hole (photos in the link) called D'dar Poom Chop. It should not add any time -or possibly just one day- to your trek, but it will take you to a tr ...

Is Phnom Penh worth the effort at the end of a long trip?

Posted by baza on 2/6/2014 at 20:24

We are taking our 4 children from NZ on a 19 day trip starting in Vietnam going from Sapa, Halong Bay & Hanoi through Hue and Hoi an down to the Mekong Delta. We then fly across to Siem Reap (to see Angkor Wat etc) from Ho Chi Minh city before heading back to NZ. My husband now wants to see Phnom Penh (just for a day he says!) as well as going to Siem Reap (which we have already booked to do). Our children are likely to be getting tired of travelling by this point and I ha ...

Battambang - Pailin - Trat

Posted by sipace on 1/4/2014 at 04:57

is it doable in a single day and how long would it take in early May? Information on this is quite old and we're looking for fresh info. I understand we need to take a shared taxi to Pailin border crossing and then continue to Chantaburi in order to get a bus to Trat. Is there any faster way (taxi) from Pailin to Trat? Any recommendations for a taxi? Thanks! ...

Any suggestions about what to do/see in Phnom Penh? And how long to spend there? I love Southeast-Asian cities, but I can't find a lot of information on Cambodia's capital. I know it isn't anything like Bangkok, but still. Is there some kind of 'khao san road' there (or just a place to meet fellow, young backpackers). Are there markets worth exploring? Off the beaten path things to do? Daytrips? I'm planning on staying two nights (too short?) but can easily extend my stay. Thanks for the feedba ...

Dengue in Cambodia

Posted by Geer1 on 2/5/2014 at 23:28

Some guy just made a post asking what to do if he gets Dengue in Cambodia but for some reason it was deleted while I was replying. I don't feel like wasting my reply so here it is. Wear long pants, long shirts and use mosquito spray if you are noticing mosquitos. Pay attention and ask if Dengue is epidemic at the moment and if it is be extra cautious on avoiding mosquitos. If they say it is safe at the moment still exercise caution as it is always possible. If you come down with a high fever g ...

Want to see one of these shows on my next trip back in Sept. Phnom Penh Airport to Hotel Options & Siem Reap to Southern Laos options

Posted by laos20140469 on 25/4/2014 at 06:29

Hello all, New member here and first time visiting Laos and Cambodia. Will post this thread in both forums as they relate to both areas. Pls can anyone advise best/safest/cheapest way to get from airport to hotel? I've read there is a prepay system for either taxi or tuk tuk - are these drivers quite safe to use or would I be better booking a hotel pick-up. Also accommodation for first night or so - around £10 - £15 a night - safe and central, but not too noisy - single room? Pl ...

Meet people in Siem Reap.

Posted by Lorena86 on 30/3/2014 at 12:03

Hi, I am a girl in my late twenties, and will be traveling alone to Thailand-Cambodia on early June. For the first leg of my trip I am thinking on staying on Siem Reap for a week or so, visiting temples, daytrips, etc. Any recommendations on a guesthouse/hotel that will allow me to meet people? I don't want to stay in a 20+ bed hostel, but I also don't want to stay on a place where I won't meet anybody, or a place for couples&families. Thanks in advance!! ...

Best places to meet people?

Hi guys, I'm going to Cambodia in a couple of weeks and for the first time I will be travelling alone. I'm a guy in my early thirties and pretty easy going. I've been before with friends but only made it to Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville due to time restraints. This time I'm starting off in Siem Reap and heading south over a couple of weeks, hopefully ending up on one of the islands. Where will be the best places to meet people in Siem Reap?
