Help fund a rainforest camera trap expedition into Virachey National Park

Posted by somtam2000 on 8/9/2013 at 06:07

Just thought I'd post this Indiegogo project I just found out about (via Greg, the resident Travelfish Virachey expert . The organisers are raising funds to set up a series of camera traps that will be used to prove there are endangered species (tigers, elephants, rhinos, leopards and friends) to try and use that as leverage to get some serious protection happening -- not before time! The project's funding requirements are pretty clear and so I'd say if you've got an interest in this kind of th ...

Free volunteer work in Cambodia

Posted by Phoenix66 on 15/5/2011 at 17:46

Hi, I'm planning to go to Cambodia sometime in September or October and was thinking of doing some volunteer work. I could be wrong but the most popular (and probably) rewarding work there seems to be teaching English or working in orphanages so I'd like to do that. I've found quite a few websites that offer this but they all charge at least £150 a week which seems like a rip off right? Therefore, I'd be really grateful if anyone knew of any organisations that were cheaper or ideally free, ...

Posted by Kaitlynnicole02 on 2/2/2014 at 18:35

Hi there, I am getting conflicting information on the Internet and was hoping someone could help me out. I am flying into BKK and heading to the border crossing to Cambodia shortly after that. Is it possible to get a business visa at a land border? Some articles I read stated that one could only get a business visa at the airport or before reaching Cambodia. Anyone know? Thanks! ...

Cambodia Itinerary (3-4 weeks)

Posted by stever1000 on 21/11/2013 at 05:01

Hello! My partner and I will be traveling from Vietnam (overland or flying) sometime in April 2014. We are planning to spend 3-4 weeks in Cambodia, but we are flexible. We have to be in Thailand for a course in early May. I also posted an itinerary in Vietnam. We want to see the "best of" Cambodia since we don't know when we will be back. We are interested in everything, we don't care too much about partying. These are the places we want to go: Phnom Pehn, Siem Riep, Battambang, Kep ...

For the last part of our stay in Cambodia (Kep), should we go back to Phnom Penh and take the boat down to Chau Doc or take the bus from Kep to Ha Tien and then Chau Doc. Which itinerary i ...

Best Island to STAY at near Sihanoukville

Posted by SoloGirls on 7/1/2014 at 18:47

I plan to get in 3 days or so of beach time and I'm going to go to Sihanoukville first to get a visa for Vietnam. So I was wondering what is the best island no more than a 3 hour boat ride from Sihanoukville? I don't need a party scene, nor do I need it to be extremely quiet. It doesn't really matter to me. What I am looking for is beautiful clean beaches, cheap clean accommodations, and safety. I'm traveling alone. Any suggestions? ...

Itinerary Help: Siem reap to HCMC

Posted by SoloGirls on 13/1/2014 at 18:12

Well I think I've changed my plans about 50 times in the last week. I was wondering if anybody would chime in about which option they would choose out of the following. I only have about 10 days to do this and I don't want to be on the go the entire time. I think some of these options would create that. Some of this includes Vietnam. But I had to pick one forum or the other. Issues: I need to get a Vietnam Visa during this time. I've read S-Ville is the best option as it happens in 20 minu ...

Self Catering in Cambodia?

Posted by plonker on 3/1/2014 at 11:46

Hey all, first of all thanks for all this information on this site, I've read through it all today - It's all very helpful! But now onto my question; Me and a friend are wanting to visit Cambodia sometime this year, but she has some very strict dietary needs, so would, much, much rather somewhere self catering so we can buy the ingredients and cook ourselves (Well she would, I'd happily go eat out anyway!) We plan on spending 3 weeks here, without rushing around to see everything, just taking i ...

Entering Viet Nam at Trapeang Phlong > Xa Mat

Posted by Archmichael on 16/1/2014 at 11:37

As all the other posts I've seen about this are four or five years old, I'm starting a new one. This coming April or May we'll be traveling from Kampong Cham to Sai Gon/HCMC. Does anyone have recent experience at the Trapeang Phlong> Xa Mat crossing? Besides the crossing itself, does anyone have information regarding transportation from there into Sai Gon, or at least to Tay Ninh, from which I figure a bus would be fairly easy to sort out. We'll already have our Viet Nam visas, so that w ...

Camping on Islands

Posted by SuicidalSausage on 7/5/2013 at 10:58

Hello, Just wondering if its possible to hire a kayak on one of the islands of the coast of Sihanoukville, and use it to kayak around the island and sleep in hammocks along the beach? Would you have to be 'staying' with one of the resorts on the island, or could you simply hire a kayak and do it independantly? If so, are there smaller, deserted islands around the main islands which can be kayaked to and stayed on? Is this legal/allowed, or does it not matter? Thanks for any help! ...

What is happening in Phnom Penh?

Posted by tyler on 18/9/2013 at 11:25

I am due to arrive October 3rd - the starting point of 2-3 months in SEA. As far as I can tell the political situation appears to be less volitile. I've been reading a few other travel forums and searching the net as best as I can. I am hoping there are a few people that live in Phnom Penh or some who are presently travelling Cambodia that can give me some accurate information regarding the political situation. Are more demonstrations planned? ...

I was wondering about Cambodia's drug laws. I have read a few reviews but they have been asking about recreational drug use. My question is am I allowed to take my prescribed medication with me or will I be refused entry or worse jail? My medication is prescribed by my doctor and he would give me a letter explaining the medication. My medication is Valium, methadone and mitrazpine. I had no problem last year while visiting Thailand and actually got OTC Valium. And had no problems with customs ...
