Hello, I've been browsing for a couple of years but this is my first post here Just wanted to share my experience of taking the bus from Siem Reap to Vientiane . I'm guessing the same scenario has been posted up here before but I haven't come across it so here goes. I was staying in some little hostel in Siem Reap (the Dancing Frog). The owner seemed a bit nuts but as I couldn't be bothered going to a travel agents I booked a ticket through him for the 24 hour direct VIP bus to Vientiane. ...

How can I get to Champassak from Phnompen?

Posted by cloud on 29/9/2013 at 13:08

As I put in the title of this post, I plan to go to Champassak from Phnompen. I found some postings on the opposite direction trip but none on my direction. How is the situation of bus on this route? Specifically, - Are there busses that go to the border directly or even to Pakse ? Does one need to sleep one night during the trip? How long does it take? - Is is possible for one to get off a bus at Champassak? Or does one need to go to Pakse first and then travel back to Champassak? - Also I c ...

Do you get drug tested at Poipet?

Posted by roro1990 on 27/9/2013 at 13:49

I rarely do drugs of any kind at home and the only drug i'd ever touch is weed. I'm not stupid enough to even contemplate touching a joint in thailand or laos, but from what I've heard from people who have been to cambodia, it's a pretty much lawless place (despite that, i'm assuming cannabis is technically illegal). Anyway hypothetically if one was to have a joint in Cambodia, and then go back into thailand at the poipet border, what are the chances of being drug tested and caught? And what wo ...

Living in Cambodia? I need your advice plse

Posted by ZalaTunzi on 20/9/2013 at 20:15

We want to start a grassroots charity program, anywhere in Cambodia that should benefit a small village. We want to mainly transfer skills and provide little (if any) material handouts. We want to help people capitalize on the opportunities presented in their own community. I am not new to starting programs in developing worlds. Have lived and worked it for many years. Am very aware of well intentioned do-gooders doing more damage than good, and of ill-intentioned volunteers, of government apat ...

First-time backpacker to Cambodia, need some advice!

Posted by NatetheGreat092 on 9/9/2013 at 11:41

Hey all! So, I decided to take the leap and go backpacking for 15 days in Cambodia from 29 October to 15 November. For those that have backpacked Cambodia, my first question is this; is 15 days enough? I'm sort of willing to tack on another few days, maybe week onto the trip, but if there is no need to, then I won't. Aside from that question, the gist of what I want to do is as follows and I'd appreciate any and all suggestions of what places to go to and for how long. I fly into Phnom Penh ...

Jungle trek in Cambodia with kids - can you recommend a trek

Posted by Joelle on 17/7/2013 at 10:59

Hi, we're in Kratie and we just dropped the idea of going to Mondulkiri province for a jungle trek with our kids. A pity certainly, but distances were too long and costs too high. In 2-3 weeks from now, we'll be in the south and we're now thinking about a trek in the cardamom mountains. Does anyone have recommendations? My kids are 4 and 6 but very good hikers. Thanks! ...

Bribery in Cambodia

Posted by SalParadise on 2/9/2013 at 10:55

Hi there, i'll be in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap in Nov. I've read some travel fish articles here about how common it is for police to ask you for some cash for no apparent reason. If this were to happen, is it advisable to just give them some cash? if so how much? it sounds slightly ridiculous, Sal ...
