Do I need to book accomodations for Koh Rong in advance?

Posted by NatetheGreat092 on 9/9/2013 at 14:32

Hi, Going to Cambodia in November and was planning on staying on Koh Rong or one of the other islands for a few nights. I was wondering, should I book the accomodations in advance or do you think it's possible to snag a beach front room/bungalow the day of arrival on the island? Anyone have any advice/experience with this? ...

First-time backpacker to Cambodia, need some advice!

Posted by NatetheGreat092 on 9/9/2013 at 11:41

Hey all! So, I decided to take the leap and go backpacking for 15 days in Cambodia from 29 October to 15 November. For those that have backpacked Cambodia, my first question is this; is 15 days enough? I'm sort of willing to tack on another few days, maybe week onto the trip, but if there is no need to, then I won't. Aside from that question, the gist of what I want to do is as follows and I'd appreciate any and all suggestions of what places to go to and for how long. I fly into Phnom Penh ...

Hi there, it's my first time in Cambodia. I'm going to go to Koh Rong Samloem Island in Dec this year, over the Christmas period. I've booked one of the Bungalow there and they've asked me to transfer a deposit of $80USD via Western Union transfer. This doesn't feel entirely comfortable, am i being paranoid? the idea of having to use western union to transfer cash feels odd. Please advice? cheers Sal ...

Jungle trek in Cambodia with kids - can you recommend a trek

Posted by Joelle on 17/7/2013 at 10:59

Hi, we're in Kratie and we just dropped the idea of going to Mondulkiri province for a jungle trek with our kids. A pity certainly, but distances were too long and costs too high. In 2-3 weeks from now, we'll be in the south and we're now thinking about a trek in the cardamom mountains. Does anyone have recommendations? My kids are 4 and 6 but very good hikers. Thanks! ...

Hi there, i'll be in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap in Nov. I've read some travel fish articles here about how common it is for police to ask you for some cash for no apparent reason. If this were to happen, is it advisable to just give them some cash? if so how much? it sounds slightly ridiculous, Sal ...

I am 18 and I have decided to take a year off before going to college. I am looking for a place to volunteer, preferably in Cambodia but I am open to researching anything (reliable) in SEA. I am hoping to stay for 5 months, working full time in exchange for a safe place to live. I have done a lot of work with kids so that's what I'm leaning towards continuing although I am open to suggestions. I would love advice from past/ current volunteers! thanks ...

Khmer-only hangouts?

Posted by ThaiStick on 8/8/2013 at 02:24

Soursdey! I was wondering if anyone knew of any spots where I could find a Khmer bar ( a place where for the most part only Khmers will be found). I've looked on the internet and all I seem to find are places overrun with barangs. Barangs, barangs, and more barangs. I don't want to hangout with barangs and listen to barang music. I want to meet and make friends with Khmers and listen to Khmer music, old and new (Sisamouth, Meas Soksophea), karaoke etcetera. Street 51 is overrun with bars from m ...
