Volunteering in Phnom Penh

Posted by yveschau on 4/10/2012 at 00:59

Hi everyone, I was just wondering if anyone knew any good organizations I could volunteer for when I arrive in Phnom Penh. I have the intention of living in the city for at least 3 months...I know it is rather easy to pay for volunteer work but I'd rather take a look into organizations which are actually making an impact. I have the intention of studying medicine next year, so anything health related would be a major plus. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you ...

Getting from Koh Mak to Siem Reap

Posted by owilhelm on 11/10/2012 at 08:42

Ok, first of all, I know this question may be answered in another forum post, but most of these posts are too confusing. What's the best possible option to get from Koh Mak in Thailand, to Siem Reap . I have heard about different type of scams, and we would easily pay some extra to avoid any of these experiences. We only have a day in Siem Reap (after the day we travel there from thailand), that's why it would be nice to just get there in the best and smoothest way possible. How early in the ...

Thoughts on Cambodia Itinerary

Posted by caseyprich on 8/10/2012 at 19:11

Plan: fly into HCMC (1 night) Phnom Penh (3 nights) Siem Reap (3 nights) Battambang (3 nights) Phnom Penh (1 night) Kampot (2 nights) Kep (2 nights) Mekong to HCMC (3 nights) HCMC (1 night/2 days . . . depart at midnight second day) I'm traveling with a buddy who hasn't been to SE Asia before and wanted to go somewhere I haven't been. Tickets Shanghai-HCMC were way cheaper than SH-PP, so we decided to get a little experience of Vietnam as well, I've been to HCMC and Can Tho in the Delta re ...

Another Hollywood film shot in Cambodia

Posted by sayadian on 2/10/2012 at 05:18

I started watching 'Act of Valor' (turbo-charged action movie about American Navy S.E.A.L.s) when I noticed the opening scene, supposedly the Philipines, was a vehicle rapidly approaching Wat Phnom along Norodom. So I googled it and found it had indeed been filmed on location in Cambodia. So if anybody wants to get a flavour of the lush countryside and rivers and forests of Cambodia you can see it in this movie. My one criticism if your going to make a film in one country purporting to be another ...

PP to where?

Posted by lylzezane01 on 4/9/2012 at 22:45

I am flying into Phnom Penh on the 20th of Nov. I plan to be a beach dweller and join the 'lost travellers' on the islands, starting at Sihanoukville. Ive done all of the touristy stuff (many ive done three times) so Im looking for any low key ideas? Although I might go up to Siem Reap to see Angkor Wat again. Just because its awesome. I am looking for stuff that will most likely be gone in a few years but I haven't seen before. All I can find are the main attractions so any tips/suggesti ...

Islands and accomodation in august/september

Posted by waltervos on 14/8/2012 at 02:00

Please note, I've asked this question the Lonely Planet board as well but I didn't get much of an answer. Perhaps the people at Travelfish are more knowledgeable on this topic. In my search for the perfect island and accomodation I had a few options, but it seems that many are closed in August and September due to weather conditions. Now some are still open, but I'm wondering if it's a good idea to visit an island at all or that it's maybe it's better to go for a beach on the mainland. Or no be ...

Rural Homestay/Rain forest/jungle suggestions

Posted by echobeach on 25/7/2012 at 02:27

Hello, I have my first trip to cambodia coming up in September. I have three weeks to explore but decided to stay in fewer places and explore in depth. I am a photographer and will spend 9 days in and around Siem Reap trying to capture Angkor. I have also booked a 5 night stay in Phnom Penh before flying out to Bangkok for my return flight. It is the height of the wet season and beaches do not appeal and have been searching for a more rural , quiet rainforest, trekking, adventure sort of ...

Siem Reap- 4000 islands- South Thailand without much hassle- is it possible?

Posted by HanoiMargarita on 2/9/2012 at 07:10

Please, help, I cannot decide myself. I have been in Siem Reap for a few days and feel like I really have to move on, but cannot decide in which direction. I have a heavy luggage after traveling in Asia for 5 months, which is a pain and a main reason I am not very mobile when it comes to changing transport. With my 3 bags it is impossible to walk in streets either. I was thinking of going to 4000 islands, then to South Thailand to see the best there, and then return to Chiang Mai where I started ...

Such errors can have serious consequences on peoples livelihoods. I'd like to take issue with one of your bloggers. The piece on lakeside, Phnom Penh by Abigail. She states: '.....but the tour ...

I wanted to see if anyone was interested in sharing the costs. I figure taking a tuk-tuk that far may be pushing it a little, not to mention AC will probably be nice. Please let me know. ...
