Help - my mate has lost their russian passport (actually it was stolen)

Posted by PeterW on 15/2/2012 at 02:39

Hi I'm hoping there may be some russian nationals here who can help. My russian friend had 2 Russian passports, cash and her credit cards stolen in Siem Reap yesterday. The Russian embassy isn't being very helpful with regard to re-issuing a new passport and I doubt the tourist police will find it either. If she can't get a new one she has to fly direct from Cambodia to Russia which effectively ends her trip. For every other country including the UK passports can be replaced but all the russi ...

FYI for ladies going to Royal Palace

Posted by grak88 on 12/2/2012 at 03:25

I got rejected today because I was wearing a tank top with a sarong wrapped around my shoulders. They said you HAVE to wear SLEEVES. A sarong or a wrap around the upper body is not good enough. Various other women got rejected as well for the same reason. ...

Hello SIM = Ripoff

Posted by CrankyCarrot on 12/2/2012 at 04:05

I bought a Hello SIM card to use in Cambodia, since the deal I was offered seemed pretty good. $8 for the SIM, with $10 credit. Well, it turns out that it was $8 for a SIM, $3 credit and $7 of near-useless "bonus credit," which as it turns out you can only use to call other Hello SIM users. The girl selling the card presented it as $10 worth of credit you can use to call anyone, anywhere. Although being $5 out isn't the end of the world, it really sticks in my craw when I get a raw d ...

Crossing into Cambodia over land - as dodgy as I read?

Posted by alt on 17/1/2012 at 22:37

Hi folks, My girlfriend and I are planning to do Bangkok => Siam Riep over land by bus, and just get out visa at the border, but any people we've met said there was a little scam in place... basically you would have your US$ fee ready for the border, but the bus brings you to a restaurant while still in Thailand and they insist on taking care of the visa for you, for a crazy fee, and if you don't do it their way, they just dump you there. Can anyone advise on what the best way to do this wou ...

Bangkok to Cambodia

Posted by swdandap on 10/2/2012 at 01:57

So I arrive at Bangkok airport on 18th evening at 5pm. Is it a good idea to stay at the airport to take the flight to Phnom Penh at 3pm the next evening or should I instead do the whole Aranya-border crossing thing and get to Battambagh or Siem Reap? I am a single woman that is traveling. Is it really that difficult to go by road from Bangkok over to Cambodia? Also should I get an evisa? Please help! ...

Phnom Penh to Battambang then to Siem Reap...

Posted by meeshakar on 3/2/2012 at 01:02

Hi travelers! Traveling to Cambodia soon, spending some time in Phonm Pehn then headed to Battambang . Best route to take? Bus, taxi? About how long? Then from Battambang to Siem Reap , best route for that one as well? About how long is that leg of our journey? Last, I know there are plenty of posts about Siem Reap to Bangkok, but what is the fastest way (besides flying of course). Thanks so much for your suggestions, one can only google so much! ...

Cheap Clothes - Thailand or Cambodia

Posted by PeterW on 26/1/2012 at 12:55

Hello. Currently in Bangkok and was thinking of buying clothes here. I've come out with rubbish clothes so I can throw them away without feeling wastefull and get a load of new stuff. However, is it better to buy clothes in Cambodia (I'm flying there on the 28th)? I don't want to spend cash here and find out a 3 day wait could sort me out for half the price. Any info would be great as I've heard from others that Cambodia is far cheaper than Thailand for things like accomodation and cigs. Cu ...

I'm in Siem Reap right now, hanging out and getting some work done (I write and build websites for a living). I have until the 10th in Cambodia before I fly back to Bangkok -- and then head straight to Chiang Mai. My question is this...anyone in siem reap? or anyone planning to head down to the islands/beaches of cambodia in the next few days? I could easily take a bus to PP and meet to head to beach. and if it matters..29/m here ...

Is there a direct bus from Siem Reap to Ho Chi Minh City? The best i've found is the mekong express but it appears those busses only go to Phnom Penh (which means having to get another bus the following day to Ho Chi Minh). I'm hoping to do the whole trip in one day. Any advice? ...

Cambodia or Laos?

Posted by piazzai on 26/1/2012 at 00:09

We are traveling in Thailand for one month and are thinking of visiting another country for a week. We just cannot decide between Laos and Cambodia. I have heard amazing things about Laos but at the same time we feel we have to go to visit Angkor Wat. We aren't really interested in the beaches since we are saving about ten days to enjoy the beaches in Thailand. I know a week isn't enough to explore a country but we thought it would be nice to visit a little of another culture. ...

Favorite Places in Cambodia - OTBP

Posted by mrdome on 12/1/2012 at 09:03

What are some of your favorite places in Cambodia that are "off the beaten path" and not well trodden stops on the banana pancake circuit? The sleepy town you could just move to for a while - or the rest of your days... Extra points for having a body of water close by (river, lake, beach with sand & big rocks*). (*I'm a sucker for those - Koh Rong, former site of Snakeyes GH could definitely be an entrant before it gets all turned into some luxury private island w. a golf course ...
