Bokor hill station road complete!

Posted by think87 on 13/11/2011 at 00:18

Just got back from a tour of Bokor hill yesterday and I can say for sure the road is complete. Our van went from the bottom to the top on a new concrete road and no walking or trekking at all. Also a couple from the guesthouse met me up there and they went on there own on rented motos and also had no problem bottom to top. The only sirt we encountered was going to the waterfall but that is in process of being paved as well. There is construction everywhere going up the hill with a large set of ...

Koh Rong without Rabies shots?

Posted by Knowlan on 20/11/2011 at 16:17

Hi, I'm new here and did a search but found nothing. I am heading to Cambodia for two weeks in mid December and planned to do a day trip from Sihanoukville to Koh Rong, but the more I look into it the more a night or two appeals. The one thing stopping me from going is the remoteness of the island in case I happen to get bitten by an animal. Does anyone know how common animals infected with rabies are and how often you can get back to the mainland? I haven't had the preventative shots and ...

Working Vacation Ideas

Posted by lsunyc on 17/11/2011 at 15:33

Greetings all: I have about three weeks to spend in Southeast Asia. Unfortunately, I'll have to work for the most part of those three weeks. Can you recommend places (such as Siem Reap, etc,) where I can hang my hat for a few days and work, walk about the city and take in the sights, then move on to the next place and work? I like small cities--preferably in Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam. But I kind of like the idea of hanging out in Chang Mai for a few days as well. I'd prefer towns/cities in whi ...

Phnom Penh to Battambang

Posted by meeshakar on 10/11/2011 at 14:03

Hi Travelers! We are staying a few days in Phnom Penh and then heading up to Siem Reap. We were thinking of stopping in Battambang and wondered if there was anything along the way from Phnom Penh to Battambang worth stopping and staying for? We would be up to staying in a random location along the way just to take in the sights. Also, is the Bamboo Train still in affect? I heard it was closing soon, just not sure when. Any suggestions for hotels would be great or things to do along the way. ...

Anyone moving on from Cambodia between now and the 13th Nov?

Posted by thisisabbie on 7/11/2011 at 08:12

Hi all! My Cambodian visa runs out on Sunday 13th, and i'm just researching my next moves! And looking for travel buddies! I'm thinking of either going straight to Thailand, leaving Fri/Sat/Sun, in which case i'd like to share a taxi with 2 or 3 others to Poipet, and then get the train to BKK. Or if anyone is doing the overland journey to Laos i'd be keen to join, as long as i can make it over the border by Sunday... Or I was even considering heading south to PP, then Sihanoukville, then cro ...

Hi, I plan on going to Phnom Penh by bus from Saigon on the 8th Nov for two nights before moving onto Siem Reap by bus also. These are the only two places we will be in Cambodia. Can anyone provide details on the flooding in these areas and whether I should go ahead with this trip. Also where is the best place to keep track of the flooding situation in Cambodia. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mark ...

Norry / Bamboo Train / Battambang and around

Posted by chaos23 on 2/11/2011 at 00:36

Since there are diffusing news about the Royal Khmer Railway Situation and the still exisiting bamboo trains around Battambang , I just want an update on it by people being around that part of Cambodia... Are the norrys still working? Which part of the Poipet - PP line is covered? Is ist only Odom Battam to Phnom Bale or further? Or is it possible to hop on a norry even between Sisophon and Battambang, or even to Pursat? My last information was, that the royal trains are not working anymore, ...

Night-life in Siem Reap

Posted by Puggles on 25/10/2010 at 10:29

I have only been to Siem Reap once before and it was only for a few days. I didn't really notice too many things to do in the evenings and was too tired to worry about the night-life anyway after visiting temples all day. This year, I am going for a little longer with a small group of people. One has asked about night-life. We are not specifically looking for bump and grind nightclubbing, but somewhere that would suit 30-50 year olds with perhaps some music, and maybe food as well. Can an ...

Homestays in Cambodia

Posted by Tessa123 on 11/9/2011 at 15:55

I'm going to Cambodia in October this year and will be doing alot of Homestays and other cheap accomodation. Do I need a sleeping bag or will they provide such thing? Also would this offend them? I'm 18 and travelling with my boyfriend of the same age, has anyone had many problems with accomodation in a similar situation due to different expectations of behaviour in non-marital relationships? Is there any etiquette that i should be aware of with homestays and just generally travelling around C ...

I'm trying to figure out travel times and I keep running into conflicting information. Does someone have the latest info. regarding how to get from Ban Lung to Kratie ? i.e. when do the earliest buses and/or taxis leave and how long does it typically take? While I'm on a roll with asking you think it's possible to get from Kratie to Kampot in one day? Who needs kip in Siem Reap

Posted by EnglishmaninNYC on 24/10/2011 at 11:57

Hi all I had to cut short our Laos trip and head to Siem Reap. We couldn't find a bank open on Sunday and airport exchanges were closed so have about 1.5m Kip to exchange for USD. I think a fair exchange rate would be about 8,000 kip to the dollar. So if you are in Siem Riep and need kip before heading into Laos send me a message and we can try to sort something out. Cheers (30 year old English guy travelling with misses in case anyone thought this was some weird scam) ...
