Lakeside,Phnom Penh

Posted by sayadian on 24/3/2011 at 17:46

Just like to put everybody right on what is happenning at Lakeside,Phnom Penh. The articles and advice on this site are way out of date. As far as I know the only guesthouses still operating are #10 and Simon's.I saw them drag the remainder of the infamous #9 away about 1 month ago.The place where it was is now a little outdoor cafe/bar (sort of) selling drinks and with a refreshing breeze from what remains of the Lake, though the thick clouds of ganja smoke means it's difficult to actually get ...

hi, we are currently on a one month tourist visa and would like to extend our visas for one more month. They are offering $45 at our guesthouse in phnom phen which seems a bit excessive as it is $20 at the border. We are considering getting are visas at the immigration office but i am getting conflicting costs online. How much is it to extend the visa at the immigration office and what is the process. Thanks ...

old farts new to Cambodia

Posted by jojoaus on 12/4/2011 at 18:37

OK. We have about 9 days in June to get a taste of Cambodia. We were thinking 2 days in Phnom Penh, then 2 or 3 days in Seam Reap to see Angkor Wat and then a couple of days on the islands just to get heat relief. We need to know mostly about traveling. Are buses our best bet?? I read that the train system just doesn't happen. Also.. accommodation. Being 46 and 56... I think we need air con at night to keep us functioning in summer. Any thoughts and experiences would be most welcome. We will ...

Phnom Penh Improvement Project

Posted by Rasheeed on 1/4/2011 at 13:23

So I was reading a bit about the project and am wondering about the time frame as it wasn't too clear. While we will all miss Russian Market, most of who have spent time in Phnom Penh know that parking is a major issue and will continue to be unless steps are taken. So they're taking'm... Anywho, so is the plan to demolish it all at the same time? Or are they planning on keeping some of it up for historical/tourism reasons for a while? And does that mean that all the souvenir vendors are goi ...

Cambodia Itinerary - few questions

Posted by kirsten87 on 10/2/2011 at 05:46

Hi Guys, I have put together a rough itinerary for my time in Cambodia, I will be travelling probably in around June/July so not sure if all my plans will be possible in the rainy season. Would appreciate your thoughts. Will probably be about three weeks but can be extended or shortened depending on how I feel as I'm also travelling around Vietnam, Laos and Thailand. Not planning on spending too much time on the coast in favour of doing this in Thailand. Arrive in Phnom Penh from HCMC. Take ...

Siem Reap to Bangkok overland: are there companies to book the entire journey?

Posted by smillertime78 on 27/2/2011 at 18:03

Hello! So glad to hear the roads have been paved, etc as I need to get from Siem Reap to Bangkok (and hopefully to Ko Chang same-day!) in mid-March. Does anyone know if there are companies in either Phnom Penh or (preferably) Siem Reap that can help facilitate the entire journey, including border crossing? Or is it really that easy to do alone (and I am alone!)? Alternatively, there was mention of a quick shared taxi trip; I assume this would be for only either the Cambodia OR Thailand ...

Aspara Dance

Anyone been to the Alliance Cafe for a meal or their Aspara show? It sounds expensive at $19 p.p, but I don't mind paying if the food is good and the show is of a good quality. Volunteer at English School, Stung Treng, Cambodia.

Posted by chikey on 10/3/2011 at 19:39

Hey Guys, Had a really great experience recently whilst in Stung Treng, Cambodia. Most people pass through this little town on their way to or from Laos but if you do stay, even 1 night and you are a native English speaker (or even if your English is really good and it's your second language) the local students would love to practice their English with you! Students at Stung Treng's 'Eastern International School' don't usually get the opportunity to get to talk to a westerner. It was almost emba ...
