The past few days have been very stressful as my paypal account was hacked and a purchase of around $400 was made to a (legitimate) Chinese online shopping website.
Because I spend too much time on my computer, I noticed the charge as soon as it happened and reported it before the website shipped the product. For the record, in the event that the website had shipped the product, I still wouldn't have been held responsible.
Anyway, just be careful when using your passwords in dodgy ...
We are 12 friends traveling to Thailand over Dec 2010, visiting Phuket, Samui, Ko Tao, and Phi Phi. All flights and accomodation has been booked and paid.
I am just wondering about the costs of food( Lunch and Dinner) and booze(Buckets , Local Beer and Vodka Redbull) we budgeted, 1500 baht per day per person for food and drink would that be suffieciant?
The group parties quite hard!!
Thank you in advance for you help.
The group parties quite hard ...
ive read on these forums of folk saying if you are from the uk and traveling in s.e.a. to get a nationwide banjk account as they dont charge any fees for lifting out cash abroad.
the thing is,i was talking with a friend today who says they have stopped it on ther accounts and basicly there rates are just as high as any other bank.
was just wondering what if any other folk have heard about this and if they know of any other bank who does a simular account. ...
Now I am staying in China (Yunnan province) and before coming back to Europe I want to travel from here to Thailand visiting Laos and Vietnam in one month. I don't have hell a lot of money but I am used to poor conditions, eating a little bit and traveling by local transport, buses trains. So I will not go to night clubs, luxury hotels and so on, but anyway I don't have an idea how much I should take for this trip. Plan is one week in Laos, 1.5 in Vietnam and 1.5 in Thailand.
I am considering spending a couple of days in a mountainous region right after entering Laos through the border Tay Trang/Taichang. It seems there is not any Laos bank in that region and I need to prepare Kips before entering Laos.
Is it possible to buy Kips in Ha Noi? If not, how about in Ho Chi Min and Bangkok? ...
Was just wondering how people here are planning to save money for a trip?
Do you have a plan figured out that you will be leaving within 6 months or so and need to save X amount of money before that time or do you just keep working, save some money and once you've got enough just go.
For this last one: when do you now you have enough to go for a trip, cause you might be thinking that you could get off for 6 months but also that if you keep working a little bit more you can go for a year... what ...
maybe someone has experienced a similar situation and has any advice.
my visacard was stolen in malaysia, which is not that bad because I still had my atm-card and an amex credit card. but now my atm is broken and indonesia amex is widely not accepeted, apart from the fact that getting cash with it is expensive.
I will be travelling until january, so I need a long-term solution, a friend joins me in 3 weeks and she could bring me both new visa and atm. but what to do until then? ...
I saw that in the new improved version of TF there's going to be a "lists" option. At first I though oh gawd, what FOR? (Visions of 500 post threads with everyone's idea essential packing lists or "must see" places).
But then again I couldn't see any point in Twitter until the Bangkok riots happened either.
Anyway, Cranky Carrot had a post about phone charges today and that made me think about one list that I'd quite like to have... cheap codes for international calls from ...
Heading back over to SE Asia in November with the girlfriend and just want to get an idea of some costs for our budget. We'll be going to Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam.
Large or small beer from traveller restaurant/bar/shop
Bottle of vodka/sangsom
Average beach hut accomodation - nothing fancy like aircon
City guesthouse - again nothing fancy
Train/boat ticket from Bangkok to Ko Phangan
I am heading to Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia from June 10 to August 31...So I have just bought a good amount worth of travellers cheques in Canadian dollars. I was going to get them in USD, but I realized I would have to pay twice for the currency conversion (CAD>USD>THB). I figured I could just get them in CAD and avoid being dinged twice. My only concern is that the Canadian dollar will not be recognized in some places especially in rural areas. Have any other Canadians brought traveller ...
Hi, I'm Danielle and I'm going backpacking solo this year for the first time. My travels beforehand have been limited to Europe, so I'm both terrified and excited!
I'm going to visit a friend who is working in S.Korea and leaving there on 4th October. I was planning to do Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Thailand-flying back to England from Bangkok some time in December. However I think I will have about £1800 once I've paid for my flights- is this stretching it a bit thin? It works out to about £ ...

Hello, I'm planning to go all around SE asia for 4 months.
I'm planning to use my regular australian debit card, my canadian visa card, and a travel australian bank card.
Problem is, it costs so much money to take cash out in the ATM in asia, so I want to use the ATM as least as possible, but I dont want to take out a bunch of money because I dont trust myself with a bunch of cash on me.
what is the best way to do it??
and what is a good amount to take out at each time in SE asia???
any help ...
We are Australian and will be travelling se asia and china for about a year. We have seen a number of International Youth Travel Cards advertised but are they beneficial for China and se asia?
There seem to be a lot of discounts but not really for asian countries.
anyone used one?
are there student discounts in china?
Most UK travellers know that Nationwide is the best bank account for foreign withdrawals. I received a letter today to say NW are changing my cash card to a new 'cash card plus' card. Great new features - but you can't use it abroad! Nooooo! NW wouldn't let me upgrade to the visa debit card. Bummer!
I set off next month on a RTW trip. I need to find an alternative bank account that offers decent rates/low charges on foreign withdrawals. Any ideas? ...
Hello, as title says I'm using traveller's cheques in Thailand and Malaysia and basically wanted to know where are the best places to exchange them? I.e. where am I most likely to get a decent rate? Bank? Exchange Booths? And places to generally avoid exchanging them!
I m a solo backpacker ,Taken a months off to travel around but have a very meagre budget say RT 2700 or Bhat 27000.Dont know what to do with it . I only have confirmed airtickets to n fro from KLIA ( i brought them as they were cheap. Please help me in getting my itinerary done .
I was thinking of goin to lesser expensive places like Laos , cambodia or Vietnam but they seem to be lot expensive than thailand or malaysia with long distance spans and no proper trasportation system.
