My husband and I are in our early 50's and have decided to take 6mths out to travel. Last year we had 6mths and went to Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and Malaysia, we had such a blast we want to do it all again. However, we do not want to go back to the above - we want to try something new. We are starting with Australia for 1 month then we need inspiration. We are starting next Jan in Aus. Due to our limited funds it has to be relatively cheap once there! Any ideas?
Looking forward to all yo ...
I'd just like to let you know how much I enjoy getting the Travelfish blog posts via Facebook.
Generally speaking, I'm well over forums despite my addictive reading of them, but the blogs are providing me with some of the most interesting travel stuff I've read in years.

This is kind of a curiousity thing, but most of the time when the subject of bus travel comes up, people are moving fairly long haul distances. I wonder has anyone here moved along really slowly, from Ampur to Ampur on a Song Taew or like, spending one day in one small town, the next in another, and so forth? And if so, how much did they enjoy that? ...

I have recently returned from a 3 week trip around Thailand and Laos, heading to Chiang Mai and slow boat to Luang Prabang which has absolutely blew my mind. It was my 3 week break from work which gave me the opportunity to do this. I have traveled around Thailand before to the islands which was great bt this time the trip has actually left me with a unsatiable appettite to travel more, to the point were I want to quit my job and go traveling for 4 months next year and find a job ...
Does anyone know of any good extended meditation retreats in Indonesia, Maylasia, or Thailand? I am a bit more interested in Zen rather than Theravada but I'm aware that the area is predominately the latter so I'm open to it. I'd say I am a fairly experienced and somewhat knowledgeable Mediator so I'm looking for something which is not quite "introductory" but does provide for a good beginner style learning environment (if that makes sense). ...
I'm looking to find a nice quiet beach hideout (with tons of sunshine) and some nice, backpacker-budget friendly accommodation to just relax to the melting point for a few weeks, I also woulden't want to have to spend to much effort to get there... That's not to much to ask for in the middle of peak season, is it??
I'm in Luang Prabang at the moment and would be looking to fly from here. I found a flight with Vietnam airlines to Siem Reap, and one idea would be to get from the ...
Its been a while considering I was on travel fish everyday from may-November!!
I completed my first ever 'backpacking' trip in November an it was the best thing I'd ever done, absOlutely loved it! With a lot of help from travel fish!! I basically travelled Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and phillipines, not everything went to plan and I spent probably double what i planned mainly due to accommodation and domestic flights, it was basically a long holiday (all because my gf is too girly) so didn't ...
I'm really interested in other peoples approaches to travelling. I went to Thailand for the 1st time last year. It was my first long haul out of Europe. To be honest when i got there my head went to pieces. I didnt really know how to approach the whole 'travelling' experience. With booking flights, how to get different accomodation day after day, booking trains and things like that. If you have any advice or experiences about travelling logistics i woould love to hear it.

We leave in six days for our three months getaway. It has been pointed out to me that the lead up to the trip contains much anticipation, whereas the trip will be over before we know it. So, I have postponed for three months, to extend that anticipation. We will then have another six months ahead of us. Then, in three months time, just before we leave............. ...
