Yunnan China _advice and Itinerary

Posted by kandpfishos on 10/6/2011 at 11:18

G’Day We will be in SE Asia later this year, and our trip really starts in Yunnan China. We will be in this single area for about 30 days. We would appreciate your comments and fine-tuning of our itinerary for the Yunnan component of the trip. We are twomid/late-60’s Australian blokes, accustomed to independent travel and each other (we have lived and travelled together for over 35 years – so we know each others foibles and habits too well!) We will be entering into Kunming on/about 22 ...

National Day Holiday in China?

Posted by kandpfishos on 11/6/2011 at 03:00

G’Day We posted a separate Yunnan trip itinerary in this board. This post concerns National Day Holidays and what to expect. We know nothing - zip, nada, empty headed - about the China National Holiday. We will be in this area around thattime: Lijiang – 3 days – by local bus (fromQiatou/Tiger Leaping Gorge) Shaxi – 5 days – by local bus from above Question: This period coincides with National Day Holidays from, we think, 1 October to end of the next week. We have read that all ...

Route advise needed: from Hanoi to Bangkok

Posted by Leonie1991 on 5/6/2011 at 23:11

Hi there, I've been planning my trip around the world but I'm not sure what the best route is from Hanoi to Bangkok. I'm going to travell south from Beijing and the most logical is to cross the border at Hanoi. Adventually I have to end up in Bangkok to take a train that will take me through Malysia but I need some route advise about getting from Hanoi to Bangkok and still actually see some of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodja. I have about a month. Can anybody give me some tips? Léonie. ...

Vietnam & Laos - Too many places, too little time

Posted by kiwiexplorer on 2/6/2011 at 07:20

Hi guys, Two of us are travelling to Laos and Vietnam in August, with around 3 weeks only, and although we have cancelled out many places already, we are still stuck as to what we should see and do in such little time. If anyone could offer their advice as to what is a must see, where we should spend more/less time in, or cancel out altogether then that would be much appreciated. Especially if anyone has experience with "The Laos Loop" and "the Gibbon Experience" it would b ...

Best way to take money?

Hello again everyone. As you might have read, I'm going travelling for several weeks all around the region. What is the best way to take money? I've heard lots of contradictory answers, and some people suggest a nationwide card, but I believe they have stopped doing free withdrawals. So should I use traveller's cheques? Or should I still use a card? Or...? ...

Solo traveller looking to meet up (India, Cambodia and Vietnam)

Posted by ruby1977 on 29/5/2011 at 08:03

Hi, I am a very easy going, down to earth Australian female traveller with a pretty flexible itinerary; looking to meet other solo backpackers throughout the journey. My basic plan is (for 2011): - 25/6 - 7/7 India - 8/7 - 31/7 Cambodia and Vietnam. I am looking forward to just seeing what happens; I am not much of a 'scheduled' sort of person. Look forward to hearing from you if suitable... Jodie ...

Domestic flights - in advance or while I'm there

Posted by akhetan on 30/5/2011 at 11:39

Hello all, I've trawled the site but have not found a (recent) answer to this question. I'm travelling Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia for 6 wks in June/July. I have flights booked to and from Bangkok. I am planning on a combination of domestic flights and some buses. Would prefer to book flights while there in order to maintain flexibility. Could someone tell me if this is a bad idea and I should do it in advance -- will they book up? Are they much more expensive? The specific flights I'm c ...

Day 1 (Sun 19th June) – Arrive in Bangkok (8am) – Spend day in Bangkok – markets/temples Day 2 (Mon 20th June) – Leave to Koh Chang - (6 hr trip) à arrive mid afte ...

Seeking Advice on Eight Week Southeast Asia Itinerary!

Posted by brand0n on 25/5/2011 at 02:17

My partner and I are taking a couple months this summer to travel around SE Asia and are looking for feedback from some of you experienced travelers or locals. We'd like to strike a balance between covering a fair amount of ground and taking time to relax at some key places. I'm looking at booking flights into/out of two different major cities to skip the travel time between the two. Some options are flying into Bangkok and out of HCMC (skipping Cambodia), flying into HCMC and out of Hanoi ...

Six weeks in Southeast Asia, what shall I do?

Posted by HexagonalBolts on 19/5/2011 at 22:02

Hello everyone! I'm flying in to Bangkok on the 29th of June and flying out from there again on the 19th of August. I've only got a visa for Thailand at the moment. Where do you think I should go / what should I do / what should I see? I've never been travelling before and I am going on my own so I'm very keen to meet people of a similar age (I'm 20) to travel around with, but at the same time I'd really like to do and see some amazing things, not just spend it all on drink as I'd just do back ...
