So the plan is.. 3 and a half month trip in total covering.... Cambodia >Vietnam > Laos > Thailand> Malaysia> Singapore...and in that order (we fly into Bangkok first from the UK and spend 2- 3 days there before making our way to cambodia) i was advised to do my trip in this order so as to get the heavy treking out of the way in the first half of the trip and then once we have made ourway across to northern thailand, spend more time in thailand covering the beaches down south, f ...

Martial Arts in SEA

Posted by rduchateau on 1/4/2011 at 09:21

I am currently living and training MMA in China. I will be wrapping up my job in China in June and looking to travel South East Asia (Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos) for 3 or 4 months before returning to the States. Looking to continue training and learn some cool sh** along the way. Thailand should be easy enough to find places to train, but haven't seen or heard of much in Vietnam, Cambodia, or Laos. Anyone ever train or know anyone that has trained in SEA? Any suggestions would be sweet! MMA/BJJ/Box ...

Mastercard in Asia

Posted by chicoelnino on 5/2/2011 at 21:15

Am heading to asia in a few months and plan on using my mastercard which will be loaded with money from my current account via online banking(small amounts and then withdrawn). I would like to know what countries in asia I'll have trouble withdrawing money from using my credit card? My bank in Ireland has informed me that I'll only pay 1.75% of the withdrawal fee if I use the mastercard that has money in credit. Pretty good? ...

Best Cities to Visit on Short Trip

Posted by marsh354 on 18/3/2011 at 02:24

My boyfriend and I have two weeks to visit a few places in SE Asia this fall. I know two weeks isn't a lot of time, but we aren't trying to see it all (we will most likely be back for more!). We want to focus on one country or one area, but since there are so many options, I'm getting a little overwhelmed! We love big cities, and are planning on flying within SE Asia to reach our destinations. I am thinking our plan should include 3 larger cities, and maybe a day trip or two (I know we'll be ...

Thailand - Cambodia - Vietnam

Posted by Manners on 18/2/2011 at 05:26

Hi, I am a 23 year old female from the UK travelling alone to SEAsia in March. Doing the Roam Cambodia Vietnam tour and feeling pretty paranoid about it. I have heard that I will have an amazing time which I am sure I will but for a first time traveller it's all pretty daunting. Anyone have any advise for me - or anyone travelling around that time? I'm sure it's going to be a blast! ...

Long trip planning

Posted by ElBarto on 17/3/2011 at 05:58

Hello everyone! I'm sure this has been posted before but I haven't managed to find any other posts that had exactly what I was looking for on them so I thought I'd make my own up. I'm planning to go backpacking around South East Asia starting at the end of this year and going on until I feel to homesick to continue or run out of money (although if that was the case I'd probably just get a job). I'm going to start off in Thailand then Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam & Malaysia, plus maybe a few ot ...

Last minute flight prices

Posted by johntron86 on 26/3/2011 at 04:58

I've been noticing that when I search for international flights between Malaysia/Thailand/Cambodia they are much cheaper if I schedule a last minute flight instead of more than a month out. Does anyone know if this is a common thing for flights in SE Asia or is this just some sort of fluke at the moment? ...

Opening a Bank Account

Posted by Moonbear on 19/3/2011 at 14:13

Hi, I am currently living in Malaysia, but I plan on leaving in a month. Before I leave, I want to do a two month trip in SE Asia. I plan to travel some in Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam. I am wondering if there is a bank that I could open an account in that has branches throughout SE Asia. I would like to be able to transfer the money I have earned while living in Malaysia to an account in a bank that is more widely available in SE Asia. I currently have an account at Public Bank because ...

Dressing in South-East Asia

Posted by flipflip on 20/3/2011 at 11:03

I am travelling to South-East Asia for 6 weeks in April/May. I will be going to Borneo & Vietnam with some friends and then doing a GAP short tour through Cambodia & Laos (solo). Just a little confused about the dress code and what I should be packing - I do not want to offend or look out of place for "showing too much leg" etc. I am planning to pack a few pairs of shorts (mid-thigh), a pair of 3/4 pants (for temples etc), a pair of jeans and a variety of tshirts/tank tops. I ...

Best cooking schools / classes?

Posted by Moonbear on 12/3/2011 at 21:46

Hello all, I currently live in Malaysia and I've been doing my best to learn how to cook some of the local cuisine. I discovered a place called Bayan Indah which is described as a "culinary retreat". It's a wonderful place to take cooking classes. I highly recommend it. Now I am really excited about learning how to cook other Asian cuisines. I will be traveling through Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam in the upcoming months. I would greatly appreciate suggestions for good cooking ...

Hey everyone, I'm planning to head out to South-East Asia from Japan in a week or so. Me and two friends will be flying to Singapore, then plan to take the train for most of our travel before flying back to Singapore from Penang then on back to Japan. Our trip will last around 3 weeks. Our main stop-offs will be at Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Bangkok - with perhaps a visit to Phuket or Koh Samui before Bangkok but we are as yet undecided. I just want to know what to expect as we're going into thi ...
