Hi guys, so, we've booked our flights to Saigon Yeah, another holiday to SEA, it will be our fourth trip (2xThailand, 1xVietnam). So, this time we thought about "the missing essentials" in the region. So far, I found out that Saigon is not really the best starting/end point for our trip, flights are so expensive ... We've done the rest of Vietnam this May, so we preferably don't want to go to Hanoi ... We would like to see in 3 weeks: Luang Prabang Vientiane Angkor Wat (Siem Reap ...

Must see Places

Posted by jnliten on 14/8/2010 at 01:55

Hello all, Just wanted to say that this site is amazing with all the helpful information and people. I was planning a trip to SE asia and stumbled on here. Been just lurking and reading the different topics and its been pretty helpful for my upcoming trip. I only decided I wanted to do this trip two weeks ago, so I have nothing set in stone yet besides the countries I'm planning to visit and the basic route I'll be taking. I’m planning to land in Bangkok then head north and crossing over an ...

Malaria with a twist (pregnancy planning)

Posted by panlou on 15/8/2010 at 22:11

I know malaria is a very common topic, but despite all the threads I have read I still havent understood what the verdict is in relation to women planning to get pregnant. Specifically, my understanding is that it is not advisable for pregnant women nor for those breastfeeding to take antimalarials nor to travel to high risk areas. However I cannot figure out how long after taking the various antimalarials or returning from the suspect areas is it safe to try and become pregnant. Any feedback ...

Laos & Vietnam - US $ OK?

Posted by jeffpruett on 31/7/2010 at 03:41

Returning to SE Asia for 3 weeks this coming December. I was in Cambodia last year and was pleasantly surprised that you could get US currency from ATM's and that all merchants accepted US Dollars. This year I'm going to Laos and Vietnam. Do merchants prefer US Dollars? If so, should I make arrangements to take dollars into these countries, etc. Many thanks for any help with this, ...

Order of route through Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam... how best to end the trip?

Posted by estelle8 on 3/8/2010 at 20:29

Hi, Going to Thailand, Cambodia, Laos & Vietnam in mid February 2011 and would like advice on basic order of the trip - not the specifics of sights as I'm pretty sure on those. I've thought of 2 basic orders and can't decide which is best overall. Pretty sure I want to start in Southern Thailand to orientate myself with backpacking (first time lone traveller). Route 1 - Bangkok > (overland) Thailand: Southern Islands > (fly) Siem Reap & region > (fly) > Vientiane & ...

my one and only tip

Posted by eastwest on 6/8/2010 at 17:11

I thought it is time to add something beyond the usual practical advise about planes, trains and buses. Would be interesting to read other's ideas as well. I noticed that many people just stick to their guidebook and main sights while they would also like to experience some local things etc. Normally people then tend to go to places that are not in a guidebook (and brag about it for the rest of their trip). My experience is that it doesn't need to be so difficult to experience something out of ...

I definately want to visit Cambodia and the Angkor temples, and definately want to go to Chiang Mai (desperately want to visit the Elephant Nature Park). I've also entertained the idea of crossing over into Laos. Rough itinerary? For 5 weeks... I figured I'd fly into Bangkok as its cheap. I am open ...

26 days in SE Asia

Hi! We are two Norwegian guys planning out our trip to Asia in mid-July - August. At our disposal is 26 days, and since we both are students and funds are somewhat restricted, we've decided to start and stop the trip in Bangkok, Thailand because the flight price is the cheapest to this airport. From here we are a bit blank, but have been checking out the option to go something like Vientiane (Laos) Savannakhet Hoi An (Vietnam) Nha Trang Ho Chi Minh/Saigon Phnom Penh (Cambodia) Siem Reap And the ...
