Itinerary suggestions: 2 months solo in SE Asia during April/May

Posted by ebove on 21/12/2015 at 08:05

I'm currently an English teacher in northeast Thailand and am beginning to plan for a (roughly) 2 month backpacking trip beginning April 1 when I am done teaching. I'm having a really hard time narrowing down where I'd like to go and would really appreciate any help with itinerary and route planning I can get! At this point, I am mostly planning on traveling solo. Because I'll be alone, I'd love to go to places where I will have the opportunity to meet other travelers; however, I'm not a big pa ...

Itinerary help- Where should I after Vientiane, Laos (cheaply)?

Posted by PathXO on 4/1/2016 at 20:20

I already covered Bangkok and the North of Thailand, and I'd prefer to leave the islands for later. I came from Luang Prabang to Vang Vieng, and then to Vientiane where I'm stumped. My original plan was going to Hanoi, but I believe I have to fly into Vietnam since I'm Canadian and that's a rule for the Visa on Arrival (can you confirm that?). Seems silly that I can't cross the Laos land border since I have all the time in the world. I guess my other option is into Cambodia- can that be ...

3 weeks in Thailand 1 week in Bali - IDEAS!!!

Posted by Jinx1 on 18/1/2016 at 08:39

Hi there! What a great site this is. I am a 'virgin' traveller... to South East Asia anyway! March 2017 - planning stages now, myself and 3 other girls are heading to Thailand. We have a few things we 'must' do... we have to fly into Bangkok, (airmiles) we also want to go to Northern TL - (Chiang Mai) to attend the ENP there. We have friends that live in Phuket, so that is a must... problem being, 3 of us can go for a month, 1 can only go for 3 weeks. We also have a gal that wants to go to ...

Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia in 19 Days?

Posted by Torncalfguy on 1/2/2016 at 22:48

My wife, teenage daughter, and I are planning a trip for almost 3 weeks from late June to early July. Any and all feedback on our general itinerary would be appreciated. As you'll see from the planned itinerary, we currently anticipate going to all three countries via considerable air travel to save time. We've purchased tickets arriving in Chiang Mai (via Washington DC/Toronto/Hong Kong) on a Monday, flying out of Phnom Penh late on a Saturday night nearly t ...

How much does it cost to travel in Asia

Posted by cainabi on 1/2/2016 at 17:52

Hi guys I need help. I'm going travelling around September time & while adding up an estimated cost of accommodation was pretty simple, trying to estimate how much it will cost to travel from place to place around Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam are proving difficult. I'm hoping some of you will be able to tell me both a way to travel (bus, plane, boat etc) & how much the travel is to the places listed below. In Thailand (flying from the UK to Bangkok): - Phuket -Pattaya -Koh ...

3 Weeks Independent or Tour?

Posted by Syk0t1k on 7/1/2016 at 05:09

Hi Everyone! My girlfriend and i are planning a trip to SE Asia later this year. I have worked out at the end of August i should have about R22,500 ZAR or $1400 saved. It's not easy saving here in South Africa but doing the best i can! Not sure if that would be sufficient for a trip that length... I will have 18 leave days available to me at the end of August including weekends and one public holiday which equates to about 25 days. Ultimately we would like to cover Thailand, Cambodia & ...

Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia in April May/June. Which way?

Posted by Jessicajade on 5/2/2016 at 17:28

Hello, I am flying into Bangkok on the 11th April and had originally planned to travel north and then go to Laos, Vietnam and arriving in Cambodia early June. However I am now wondering if it would be better to do it the other way round and go straight into Cambodia from Bangkok and travel counterclockwise so that I can get the most out of the dry weather for the beaches instead of arriving there when it's raining? Any advice? ...

Travelling this fall for 5 or 6 weeks to Thailand, Vietnam Laos, Cambodia and Beijing. Planning an itinerary. Any suggestions of where to go or where not to go would be helpful. If you have an itinerary that avoids backtracking even better. Specific hotels, and specific sights to see would also be helpful. Thanks ...

3 weeks in March, where should I go?

Posted by hayleyspelman on 5/2/2016 at 05:59

I really want to do a solo-trip somewhere in South East Asia and March is the only time I can go. I have some hesitations though. Safety is a big concern of mine. Is it safe to travel this region at this time or are there places that should be avoided / safer places recommended? Also, I've read March is when farmers start burning back. Is traveling south east asia still worth it? Some background information: I'm a 20-something year old woman who has lots of travel experience (and solo expe ...

I also want to try and make it down to Bali for a few weeks, as well as at least a week on Koh Tao to learn to scuba dive. I don't know the best way to make this r ...

Hey everyone! We have a not so easy schedule for our honeymoon with 5 yr old kid: october 13 to november 3. What's the best place in SE Asia for a beach holiday? What we'd like to have: - beach bungalow or close to the beach in small village - quiet sea with clear water and fish, and good snorkeling opportunities - some social life around but definitely NOT all night partying - not on a hardcore budget, but still definitely not rich - good weather (this is why I am asking after all, since it ...

The NYT on where to go

Posted by somtam2000 on 7/1/2016 at 22:08

This year's NYT list of places to go features three destinations on turf covered by Travelfish, with Da Lat in Vietnam, the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh and Bali's tourist heartland Ubud all getting a mention. I love Phnom Penh, but it struck me as a bit of a safe/lazy bet, while I don't like Ubud at all and haven't been to Da Lat recently enough to have a valid opinion. I dunno, can think of many other places that I'd have switched in for these three - especially Ubud. What do you ...

Itinerary help! Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand Feb 2016

Hello! New here. My trip (I'm a 30 year old solo female traveler) is rapidly approaching and I haven't put much of an itinerary together, so I'd like some help/advice! I fly into Saigon, arriving January 29th, flying out of there on February 28th. I know that isn't long enough to see all of what each country has to offer, but I'm hoping to get a nice taste of each. I'm more interested in history, culture and nature than I am in partying. A very rough itinerary: Arrive into Saigon, spend a week ...

how much time for Vietnam, Laos, Thailand and Cambodia?

Posted by edi on 20/12/2015 at 15:37

hi, I have 4, maximum 5 weeks off. I would like to see all these four countries - Vietnam, Laos, Thailand and Cambodia. As I know it may be too little time to see all of them thoroughly, I thought of seeing just the northern parts of Vietnam, Laos, Thailand and the western part of Cambodia. The Halong Bay and Sapa as well as Angkor temples are a must see for me. The itinerary destinations are pretty close to each other, so i guess i would spend as much time on getting from one place to an ...

Beach or island SEA late August with!

Posted by northland on 12/12/2015 at 11:18

Hi, we are a Canadian family with kids from 7 to 16 planning a trip to SEA in mid August. We'd like to start with a nice beach or island, preferably with good snorkelling/diving, not too busy. This is our first August trip so the monsoon has me stumped! We plan to go to Angkor Wat afterwards so Bangkok seems like a good hub but we're open to ideas, thanks and hope to get some good ideas ...
