hi, my first post here, after having a great package holiday in thailand last year me and the wife are planning to do a longer stint and see more of the south east asia but on a budget.
the wife feels to have a good experience of this area we need at least 6 months, from the iteneries i have looked at it seems that 3 months is all you need to cover the main spots in a nice easy pace.
We want to cover north/central thailand down to about krabi, a few islands, cambodia, laos, vietnam and bal ...
I am about to head out for my first time in Thailand, and I am reluctant in planning too much ahead, so I'd rather book my travels inside the country once I'm there - and we pow wow with the other travelers...
We only have 2 weeks, and we know that we want to spend a few days in Bangkok, travel up to Chiang Mai (maybe stopping in Sukhothai on the way?) and then finish with relax on the beach - we were thinking of Ko Tao... sounds tranquil and beautiful.
Anyone has any advice for ...
I have a question that someone might be able to help me with. I am looking to learn a foreign language for both the personal enrichment and to hopefully expand my future career possibilities. Although I still do not know what I want to be "when I grow up," my current dream job would be either governmental (specifically Foreign Services Officer or a traveling auditor for the G.A.O.) or a career in the business world (international sales/travel).
I still need to knock three continen ...

Myself and a friend have booked flights into/out of Bangkok, from 28sep-10dec 2007, so we have just over 10 weeks in the region, and want to travel round Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Thailand.
The regional explorer on this site looks amazing (nice one guys) and it says that 10 weeks is a comfortable amount of time within which to do this, but it seems tight, especially if we want to spend at least a week island hopping at the end of our tour.
So, I guess my main question is, is it p ...
Would really really appreciate some advice on my itinerary. I'm leaving shortly for a 30 day trip and have come up with the following itinerary. As a side note, would also like to add that i am on the fence on wether to go to Chiang Mai for the 'tribe trekking' experience versus Northern Laos. I've heard Laos is more authentic but more rugged, while Chiang mai has more commercialized and so might be easier. Any advice on this would be appreciated. To this extent, my itinerary inc ...
Im off to Thailand/Cambodia in 10 days, for 31 days.
I thought I should put my itinery up, and would welcome any comments you may have. I've lurked on this site for a while now, and most of my inspiration has come from here (and thorntree).

I bought a few DVD's recently in Hanoi. I just tried to post them to Australia, but was refused (something about Vietnamese customs..) I was assured I could take them out of Vietnam personally and not pay duty, assuming of course there wasn't a commercial quantity, as I believe there isn't.
A few questions:
1) Can I take 27 DVD's out of Vietnam without being taxed?
2) Can I take 27 DVD's into Australia without being taxed?
3) If I can't do either of those above, what is ...
Hi there. The other day I got approached by a guy in Hanoi asking for a donation to the Vietnamese Red Cross. Sure I said after a close inspection of an official looking Vietnamese document and identity card. I donated 50000 dong and when I asked for a receipt, there wasn't any forthcoming. Since then I've been approached several times and turned them down, including one very pushy girl who demanded I donate 50000 dong to her when I told her I had already donated that amount already that day.
Hi guys, I'm heading to SE Asia from mid Sept to mid Dec. Want to get in Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia & maybe Burma depending on political situation (we are flying into and out of Singapore). Any suggestions esp when to be in which country to avoid the rain!? I'm a bit bamboozled by the amount to see and do! I've have had a read of some of the explorer trips and Lonely Planet but I'm more confused than ever! We want to hit all the tourist spots but get off the beaten track too.. A ...

During that 4-5wks plan to see Angkor Wot, Chu Chi Tunnels, Phnom Phenn, HCMC maybe pop out to Mui Ne before travelling up coast to Hanoi stopping at Hoi An and possibly Hue. Im planning a trip to Thailand,Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia for 5 weeks. Travelfish is helping me a lot for this purpose.
I did a first itinerary but I don`t know if it`s to much for 5 weeks. At this moment I don`t know exactly how long to stay in each place. I will be really grateful for any advice.
This is my itinerary :
Ok. So I am about to book flights for mid July- mid oct , but I need to know if my itinerary is possible, or to crammed, anything I should take out or put in. I’ve planned for 35-45AUD a day and a 600AUD fund for visa’s, Halong and Angkor. And a credit card for the odd flight. Good planning?
I will be doing the normal loop.
Cambodia- 2 Weeks
Siem Reip, Battambang, Phnom Penh, Sihonoukville, Kampot
Vietnam- 3.5 weeks
Saigon, Dalat, Na Trang, Hoi An, Hue, Hanoi, Halong Bay, Mai Chau
I would appreciate recommendations on a 3-4 weeks Cambodia-Vietnam-Laos itinerary. I plan to enter Cambodia overland from Bangkok, go south to South Vietnam, then go overland/fly through Vietnam and then enter northern Laos.
I will most probably be coming to Bangkok overland from Singapore, so if there might be a better option available (flying into Cambodia from Singapore for example), by all means please do mention it (I have already visited Bangkok so it's not imperative to visit it ...
