Trip planners from Travelfish

Posted by somtam2000 on 29/3/2006 at 11:20

In response to the many questions we get on the messageboard about where to go, we've just opened a new part of the site, Travelfish trip planners. At the moment there's just a few plans there -- all for Thailand, but we'll be rolling out a lot more over the coming weeks, including plans that cover all four countries. We'd be very interested to hear any opinions or feedback on them so that we can incorporate your suggestions into them. Thanks again! ...

Trip Suggestion

Posted by soniak on 13/3/2006 at 08:04

Hi, So, I am planning to travel to Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos. I don't have any dates set as yet and would like to get a suggestion on good time to visit. I would prefer to go in non-tourist season as am not very fond of tourist crowds everywhere I go. I would like to do a more cultural tour and don't want any beach travel. Now, the main issue is that I can squeeze only 15 - 20 days (corporate America worker bee!!). I have no idea at all about the above countires to even start with an ...

I'm planning a 6 week trip to SE Asia, starting in June. I'm visiting my sister who's a volunteer with VSO in Kampot, so I will probably spend close to 3 weeks in Cambodia. I'm trying to plan what to do in the other 3 weeks. I'm flying in and out of Bangkok, so I'm going to spend 3 days there, before heading north to Chiang Mai and the surrounding area. I want to then head across to Luang Prabang and see a bit of Laos. I don't think I'll have time to see much of Vietnam, but was wondering w ...

Visas for Laos and Cambodia

Posted by Blueeyedboy13 on 25/3/2006 at 22:36

I'm planning on crossing from Thailand into Laos at Chiang Khon/Huay Xai. Is it possible to get a visa for Laos there, or do I need to get one beforehand. If I do, how easy is it to get one in Thailand? I am then heading south, and want to cross from Laos into Cambodia at Voen Kham/Koh Chheutteal or Stung Treng. Can I get a Cambodian visa there, or should I get one in Thailand or Laos? Thanks. ...

That damn backpacker bubble...

Posted by somtam2000 on 23/1/2006 at 09:35

I found this interesting piece in The Guardian via the excellent Singapore blog Popagandhi. It's taking a look at the backpacker bubble that so many say they're dodging, but really don't: "Is there some sort of banana pancake beam that sucks us in? In a sense, yes." Full story here It's amusing that the author picks on banana pancakes in particular, though I guess I'd rather be teleported by a banana pancake beam than a muesli and yoghurt beam... He gives some suggestions on how one cou ...

Hi, we are 2 teachers on August summer holidays and are planning to go to Thailand and Cambodia - and possibly take in Vietnam if we have time. We are both keen on diving (I have my Open Water and my friend wants to learn) so we would like to spend at least a week by the coast. Can anyone recommend a route that would make the most of our time? We are also a bit worried that it will be problematic visiting these 3 countries during a v. rainy period. Is this the case? Would we be better off vi ...

Question regarding TC’s for Thailand & Vietnam.

Posted by Louise73 on 20/2/2006 at 20:44

I am going to Thailand & Vietnam and I'm going to bring only TCs and to use Visa card for internal flights. I plan on bringing $2,600.00 in TCs - what denominations should I bring? What is the best amount to change at one time - some people have told me not to walk around with more than $100 worth of local currency. When I pay guest houses/hotels can I pay directly in TC’s or do I need to pay in local currency. I suppose then I can work out exactly what denominations to take. I wil ...
