Southeast Asia June - November?

Posted by vbradley on 28/8/2017 at 13:08

Hi all! Me and my boyfriend are planning on going travelling around Southeast Asia from June - November. However, doing some research it seems we're going to have a bit of a struggle with regards to weather, particularly around July - Sept. We are both quite new to travelling so are hoping to get some advice about where is best to visit during this time and what root to take! Having already spent some time in Indonesia its not somewhere we were planning on going back to, however places we are ...

Itinerary help needed

Posted by mkarmstr on 16/8/2017 at 08:30

Hi guys! I'm new to travelfish and to Southeast Asia! I've traveled a bit but never put together a three week itinerary before, so I really would love your help. We (boyfriend and I) are doing 3 weeks in December, which I know is not ideal because it's high season, but we have to make do. We fly in and out of Kuala Lumpur and are thinking of doing a loop, shown below. Our non-negotiables are really just Siem Reap, Bangkok and Penang, and a couple of island relax days. I would love suggestion ...

Honeymoon in Vietnam

Posted by thaorosellazulab on 19/7/2017 at 05:22

My husband and I will go to Vietnam for our honeymoon. At first, we plan to move to Bali, Indonesia but the price for this trip is unaffordable for us and then decide to choose Vietnam. We want to stay a romantic but not too touristy place. We will only have one week and visit some places like beaches or island. Heard much about Halong, Nha Trang and Phu Quoc. Highly appreciate any suggestions. ...

Posted by mizdaphne on 26/7/2017 at 19:46

Hi everyone! Thanks for all the incredible info on this site/forums, I have been soaking it up over the past few months! We (couple in our 30s) are planning a 6 month trip to SEA (+NZ) and have been hard at work researching destinations. I think we finally have a solid itinerary, but just wanted to run it by you expert travelfishers... Could you let me know if you see any big no-no's in terms of timing, route, weather or anything else? It's more flying than I had originally thought but since t ...

Booking a homestay in Bali

Posted by SandySowas on 24/7/2017 at 00:44

Hello, I am traveling to Bali (Ubud) during August and wanted to know the best way to book a homestay. Is it recommended to book online and in advance? or are do folks generally show up and have a few places in mind and then book? I'm looking for a quiet, chill place, not too expensive and has breakfast included, so any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! Sandy ...

Beach Resort Easily Accessible from Bangkok or Hanoi

Posted by Oliviawj11 on 17/7/2017 at 12:54

Hi all! My husband and I are traveling to Bangkok and Hanoi (with a two-day tour of Halong Bay) for our slightly-belated honeymoon mid-November. We have set aside 3-4 nights of our trip to spend at a beach resort somewhere - a few days in Hanoi was my husband's request, but a few days relaxing on a beach is super important to me. I feel pretty confident that we can fit a trip to an island or resort town into our itinerary, but because we're already spending a fair amount of time traveling ...

SEA backpacking questions

Posted by clearest on 12/7/2017 at 14:23

Me and a friend may be taking a gap year together after finishing at college and both of us would love to backpack SEA. Firstly, how safe is it, primarily Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia? I've heard terrible stories but also have researched and seen that it's really safe for backpackers. We'd be going in over a year, so have a lot of time to plan and do plenty of research. I haven't figured out exactly getting to/from boarders etc but have seen online that transport is really good in SEA as ...

I have 3 months in SEA..Help!!

Hi there, I am off to south east asia on October 17th- Jan 17th and need some help. I was originally going to spend a month in each Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam before I head off to Aus. Speaking to some fellow travellers they have told me that a month in each Laos and Cambodia is too long and I should spend about 2.5 weeks in each and spend 3 weeks also visiting Malaysia... I am so stuck at what to do, I do not want to rush at all and for example I know I want to see places like Tonle Sap in Camb ...

Open jaw trip: 20 days flying into Bangkok and out from Ho Chi Minh.. Where to go?

Posted by wanderingemlessly on 4/7/2017 at 12:15

Hi all! I'd love any insight on planning out my upcoming late October-mid November SE Asia trip. I'll be heading out solo and I really want to focuse on culture/nature/food as opposed to the big city party scene. I snagged a really great flight deal that has me flying into Bangkok and out of Ho Chi Minh, which at first i thought would be plenty of time to do both countries....but... after further research definitely not. I'd love to get thoughts on best itinerary for that time span. My plan so ...

Hunting and Foraging in SE Asia

Posted by ForagerGirl on 30/6/2017 at 09:41

My partner and I are planning on traveling to SE Asia this November for a couple months. Our ideal experience would involve witnessing lots of wildlife, hunting/trapping and foraging, and interacting with locals who also hunt/trap/forage for subsistence. We're not the kind of travelers who care about restaurants, temples, bars, partying, etc. Would rather spend as little time as possible in the cities. We both have experience with backpacking and wilderness skills in the United States, and are p ...

Who wants to go to South Goa early next year?!

Posted by katadolph on 16/6/2017 at 05:08

For my next trip (early 2018) I am going to stay nine to ten weeks in the Palolem area of South Goa, India. Possibly Palolem itself, but more likely Patnem or Agonda. They're all so close anyway it hardly makes a difference! It would be good to already be in touch with people round and about, and if we click perhaps travel together to other bits of India. Over the years I've spent a lot of time in India, doing the backpack slog, and have covered much of the area from the bottom of Tamil Nadu ...

6 month Itinery, SE Asia, starting in October

Posted by rosaw1 on 6/5/2017 at 10:23

Please help! I am a 25 year old female and this is my first time backpacking - I hope to be going with a female friend of the same age. I want to leave in October, and will have ~£6000 to spend post flights (no diving). I think this should give me about 6 months of travelling. I want to see as much of SE Asia as I can but not to rush it. I am not fussed about going to Singapore & think timor-Leste will be too risky? I want to go to Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand ...

Hi there, Actually, I posted in the forum to ask suggestions about Laos trip but I have some changes in the trip because I have more time for traveling about 1 month, so I want to visit Southeast Asia including Laos. I intend to spend one month for my vacation in South East Asia in March - April. I consider some countries including Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam. I know that perhaps one month is not enough to cover all the tourist destinations in these countries. I am trying to plan for my ...

Vietnam vs. Thailand in June/July

Posted by alschwar914 on 12/5/2017 at 13:36

Hi, My friends and I have two weeks to travel in one of these countries at the end of June/start of July. It will be our first time in SE Asia but are all seasoned travelers. We're looking for a mix of adventure and beach. My biggest concern is rainy season as it seems very localized in each country. Does anyone have recommendations on which country/regions to focus our travels in to avoid bad weather? Thanks! Alex ...

Thailand vs Vietnam in September/October

Posted by apbryant on 30/3/2017 at 17:41

Hi Everyone! My boyfriend and I plan to travel to Southeast Asia from the US in September or October 2017 for about 10 days. I would LOVE to visit both Vietnam and Thailand, but realize that is not enough time to fully enjoy both. We are thinking about choosing one or two towns in either country for adventure/sightseeing/history and then traveling to a beach or island for some water activity and relaxation. While I have experience traveling in Southeast Asia and want to see the authentic cultur ...
