Dive Bar/Rock/Metal Live Venues in SE Asia

Posted by MarkSeaton on 6/9/2017 at 00:00

Hello! First a confession. I love me a dive bar. LOVE ME a dive bar. I have always made it a mission to find/check out Dive bars/Hard Rock/Heavy Metal/Punk/Alt bars especially ones with live bands in my travels in SE Asia. You always seem to find one, no matter where you are. I even found one in Kyoto! Metals! m/ So anyway, anyone like the Dive Bar/HR/HM/Punk/Rock/Alt live band stuff and have any recos along the way? Or just recos for good bars? I imagine there is a post somewhere, but that was ...

Travelling for 7 months

Posted by 65464 on 1/9/2017 at 04:09

Hello, My boyfriend and I will be leaving to go travelling in November for 7 months and I was wondering what people thought about the amount of money we are roughly going to have and whether it will be enough! We are staying in NZ with my family for the first two months so it’s likely that we won’t be spending much in that time. However, we will be travelling New Zealand for a month adter this and then 4 months in SE Asia (Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam) We think we will roughly have betwe ...

The Thakhek Loop

Posted by Megaworldasia365 on 31/8/2017 at 06:33

Hi, I'm planning on doing the Thakhek Loop (central Laos) towards the end of Sept 2017. Just wondering if there's anyone out there who wants to join me? I'll be doing alot of photography on the way so I'm planning on a trip of about 7 days. I know it's still the rainy season but that's the best time to check out the waterfalls near Na hin village. I've already done 2 trips to Khong Lor cave but don't mind doing it again as I'm a caving enthusiast. There's also some good jungle treks around khon ...

First trip to SE Asia, where to go?

Posted by choduk on 3/8/2017 at 13:09

Hi, Me and my friend are planning to go to SE Asia for a month in November. This is our first real 'adventurous' backpacking style holiday. We're looking to move around a bit but not too much as we also want to be able to enjoy and take in the individual places we visit. Between Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Indonesia we're not sure where to go, or where to start! We want to soak up the culture and explore, but also fit in some time for lying on the beach and partying... What country ( ...

Southeast Asia Itinerary

Posted by robbydoc on 26/4/2017 at 11:05

Can I get a general critique of this itinerary? This will be out first trip to Southeast Asia. We have only been to India and Japan in Asia but was have traveled a lot in Europe. It's just me and my wife. We are a energetic couple in our late 30s. Does this itinerary flow OK? Are we spending to much time anywhere. Should we go back to Bangkok at the end?We want to hike, see temples, and waterfalls. Along with the obvious first time tourist stuff. Day 1 Leave Home Day 2 Arrive in Bangkok (Lat ...

Posted by vbradley on 28/8/2017 at 13:08

Hi all! Me and my boyfriend are planning on going travelling around Southeast Asia from June - November. However, doing some research it seems we're going to have a bit of a struggle with regards to weather, particularly around July - Sept. We are both quite new to travelling so are hoping to get some advice about where is best to visit during this time and what root to take! Having already spent some time in Indonesia its not somewhere we were planning on going back to, however places we are ...

Itinerary help needed

Posted by mkarmstr on 16/8/2017 at 08:30

Hi guys! I'm new to travelfish and to Southeast Asia! I've traveled a bit but never put together a three week itinerary before, so I really would love your help. We (boyfriend and I) are doing 3 weeks in December, which I know is not ideal because it's high season, but we have to make do. We fly in and out of Kuala Lumpur and are thinking of doing a loop, shown below. Our non-negotiables are really just Siem Reap, Bangkok and Penang, and a couple of island relax days. I would love suggestion ...

Honeymoon in Vietnam

Posted by thaorosellazulab on 19/7/2017 at 05:22

My husband and I will go to Vietnam for our honeymoon. At first, we plan to move to Bali, Indonesia but the price for this trip is unaffordable for us and then decide to choose Vietnam. We want to stay a romantic but not too touristy place. We will only have one week and visit some places like beaches or island. Heard much about Halong, Nha Trang and Phu Quoc. Highly appreciate any suggestions. ...

Posted by mizdaphne on 26/7/2017 at 19:46

Hi everyone! Thanks for all the incredible info on this site/forums, I have been soaking it up over the past few months! We (couple in our 30s) are planning a 6 month trip to SEA (+NZ) and have been hard at work researching destinations. I think we finally have a solid itinerary, but just wanted to run it by you expert travelfishers... Could you let me know if you see any big no-no's in terms of timing, route, weather or anything else? It's more flying than I had originally thought but since t ...

Booking a homestay in Bali

Posted by SandySowas on 24/7/2017 at 00:44

Hello, I am traveling to Bali (Ubud) during August and wanted to know the best way to book a homestay. Is it recommended to book online and in advance? or are do folks generally show up and have a few places in mind and then book? I'm looking for a quiet, chill place, not too expensive and has breakfast included, so any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! Sandy ...

Beach Resort Easily Accessible from Bangkok or Hanoi

Posted by Oliviawj11 on 17/7/2017 at 12:54

Hi all! My husband and I are traveling to Bangkok and Hanoi (with a two-day tour of Halong Bay) for our slightly-belated honeymoon mid-November. We have set aside 3-4 nights of our trip to spend at a beach resort somewhere - a few days in Hanoi was my husband's request, but a few days relaxing on a beach is super important to me. I feel pretty confident that we can fit a trip to an island or resort town into our itinerary, but because we're already spending a fair amount of time traveling ...

SEA backpacking questions

Posted by clearest on 12/7/2017 at 14:23

Me and a friend may be taking a gap year together after finishing at college and both of us would love to backpack SEA. Firstly, how safe is it, primarily Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia? I've heard terrible stories but also have researched and seen that it's really safe for backpackers. We'd be going in over a year, so have a lot of time to plan and do plenty of research. I haven't figured out exactly getting to/from boarders etc but have seen online that transport is really good in SEA as ...

I have 3 months in SEA..Help!!

Posted by alicelil1607 on 11/7/2017 at 11:28

Hi there, I am off to south east asia on October 17th- Jan 17th and need some help. I was originally going to spend a month in each Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam before I head off to Aus. Speaking to some fellow travellers they have told me that a month in each Laos and Cambodia is too long and I should spend about 2.5 weeks in each and spend 3 weeks also visiting Malaysia... I am so stuck at what to do, I do not want to rush at all and for example I know I want to see places like Tonle Sap in Camb ...
