Posted by Domj on 7/3/2015 at 13:28

Im in the process of mapping out a rough plan for a 6 month SE Asia backpacking route which I will be embarking on next year. I'm going to fly into Bangkok, then Nothern Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Southern Thailand and then into Malaysia. Here is where I'm struggling on what to do next, I'm wanting to go to The Philippines, Borneo, Bali and end back in Singapore to fly home. Which Is the best/cheapest route to take, as from what I can see I'm having to fly back to Kuala Lumpa every time ...

I've used Travelfish extensively for this trip and just wanted to say thank you to this website and to all of you on the forum for helping me plan this adventure! We couldn't be more excited and can't wait to share our stories with those planning their next trip as well. Cheers! ...

Malaria in Indonesia

Posted by catseyes8787 on 3/3/2015 at 08:42

Hi folks, I'm travelling to Indonesia (Bali, Lombok and Flores ) in a few weeks and I would like people's advice on Malaria. From what I've been reading, Flores is a malarial zone; do you reckon I need to take tablets prior to going or is the area "safe"? I know medical organizations are very conservative about it so I'd love opinions from experienced travellers/expats. If anti-malarials are advised, is it possible to get them in Bali? Thanks! ...

What else would you add to this itinerary?

Posted by beantown on 23/2/2015 at 10:01

Hi guys, I'm visiting SE Asia in June with my boyfriend and just found out that I can add about two more weeks to the four weeks I was already planning there. So far, the plan is to visit (in order): Saigon (6/1-6/3) Hoi An (6/4-6/7) Hanoi + Halong Bay (6/7-6/13) Bangkok (6/14-6/16) Chiang Mai (6/17-6/20) Krabi (6/21-6/24) Koh Tao (6/25-6/30) What else would you add to this for 2 more weeks? We'll be flying out of Bangkok July 16th and wanted to see Angkor Wat at some point. Also, we can't ...

Hey guys! I am new in this forum, although Travelfish has been my go-to site for the past three years of dreaming I hope I am "behaving" properly, opening up a new topic for my question, but I´ve researched a lot, and my questions are still there, so I decided to just go ahead and post. The flight is booked, the days are getting crossed off the calendar... End of January, I will be heading to Bangkok to spend 10 weeks in Laos, Cambodia and Thailand. I´ve been to Thailand befo ...

Hotels in VT, Camb and laos, price comparisons

Posted by mikal83 on 11/2/2015 at 05:28

2 yrs ago, we travelled from northern Thailand to Singapore. Took us 6 weeks, via Koh Samui and Phuket, KL and Chiang Mai. I prebooked hotels all the time from 2 main websites, from the UK. I took time looking at Tripadivisor to various reviews and the websites own reviews to make my choice. Later this year, october, we intend spending 2 1/2 months travelling the complete loop as per one of the itineries here. Hanoi /Sapa>HCMC>PP, up thru Laos to Huay and back to BKK via C Mai, to fly hom ...

Hi all I'm new to this and just wanted to get some advice. I have been to Thailand recently for 5 weeks and ever since I've come back I haven't been able to sit still, I want to go back again. This time I want to do more though. My plan is 3 months, Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia and hopefully some more Thailand. I'm thinking July to October. In terms of money, would $4000 be enough? It's hard for me to judge it on my time in Thailand as I went there on a holiday and was staying in 5 star hot ...

4 weeks in Indochina with GF. Please comment on my itinerary!

Posted by indochine15 on 31/1/2015 at 18:53

Hello, fellow travellers. I'm going to South East Asia for the first time in Mid-February for 4 weeks, and I'm travelling with my girlfriend. We are EU citizens, and for my girlfriend, Vietnam is visa-free, whereas I need a visa, which would set me back around €70. We are starting and finishing in Bangkok and have pretty much a tiny bit less than four weeks to travel. Our main priorities are: 1) Street food & cuisine, 2) Culture, 3) Lovely Beaches, 4) Landscapes. A main problem of ou ...

Four weeks - Thailand and Vietnam

Posted by buck4225 on 2/2/2015 at 01:40

Hey everyone! My wife and I (both early 30s) are going to be traveling to SEA in April/May for about 4 weeks (depends on the tickets I get but that is about what it will be) and are looking for advice. I know looking at a lot of the posts it seems that we should focus on one country in that amount of time, but we just arent sure when we will get the opportunity to come back (maybe kids and living adult life soon) and are so torn between Thailand and Vietnam that we would really like an itinera ...

Where is worth going for 2 weeks that is not Thailand?

Posted by dangerzone15 on 15/2/2015 at 00:34

Currently in Thailand and have 6 weeks in total in Asia. I'm spending 4 of them in Thailand so have 2 spare at the end of my trip. Just looking for suggestions on places to spend them 2 weeks. I have been to both Laos (seen the whole country) and Cambodia (explored phnom penh, sihanoukville and siem reap) and from what I've read, I'd need a month to do Vietnam. Any suggestions on places to go? ...

SE Asia amateur here, help put together a rough 3/4 month plan

Posted by matthewaus on 21/1/2015 at 23:58

Hi everyone! New to the forum, recent lurker. I've been in Australia since June 2013 and with my work contract finishing up this month I'm looking to hit the road and head to SE Asia from February. I didn't initially plan on travelling SE Asia when I left the UK, so I'm getting my Hep A/B and Typhoid vaccinations next week. I'm also not very knowledgable on the area but recently I've been interested in heading there to travel around. I'm looking forward to not spending bloody A$300+ a week on ...

A quiet island/beach destination for the summer months.

Posted by marianaamc on 17/1/2015 at 17:51

I've been to SEA before but always skipped the beach destinations (besides in Indonesia- Amed beeing my favorite one). I want to comeback and I'll be in SEA in the summer months, still not sure for how long but from July on. I understand the summer months won't be great in most islands and beach destinations so I would want some opinions regarding my best options for this time of the year. I will probably go back to Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam. I would like somewhere where there was some so ...

If you have any appreciation for durian, would you please take five minutes to participate in the survey? Here is the link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/durianlovers3 Thanks ...

Hello all, I will be traveling throughout SE Asia for roughly 3 months starting at the beginning of February and I am interested in volunteering for at least 1-2 weeks. Does anyone with some experience have any recommendations as to where I can look online to sign up? Specifically interested in building houses, working with children, environmental work, etc. My tentative itinerary includes Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, but I'm not limiting it to those 3 just yet. Help appreciated! ...

Hi there, I'm planning a 2-Month trip in April and May... I've been to Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia so far, so now I'm thinking about Indonesia and / or the phillipines. What I want: nature, hiking, diving, cycling, the occasional backpacker-beer at the beach. Any suggestions, should I concentrate on one of the countries, or is both of them doable? Flights shouldn't be a problem, actually I saved money for a 6 month trip, but only got 2 months time now... Any tips? Which is the best travel gu ...

This was funny - over 30 tourists

Posted by MADMAC on 22/1/2015 at 12:24

1. Have someone wait for them at the arrivals area with an embarrassingly large sign. When Jeff and I arrived via train to Chiang Mai, we had someone from our guesthouse waiting for us with a very large, very white sign saying "Ms. A." As we walked with the driver to the car with the very large sign in tow, I spotted a group of backpackers scoffing at us. I was offended until I realized I used to be one of them. 2. Spend more time updating LinkedIn than Facebook. Because I need to ...

Three weeks in SEA, seeking reccomendations

Posted by The8BitFighter on 13/1/2015 at 06:51

Greetings all, I'll have about three weeks to do some traveling in SEA next month, and I was wondering if you some more experienced travelers could give me some recommendations or advice. BACKGROUND: I've taught English for a couple years in South Korea, currently teaching in China. At my previous job I had very little vacation time, but I was able to spend a week in Thailand. I've also done some backpacking through the UK and Ireland. So not a novice traveler, but far from experienced. SEEK ...
