Where is worth going for 2 weeks that is not Thailand?

Posted by dangerzone15 on 15/2/2015 at 00:34

Currently in Thailand and have 6 weeks in total in Asia. I'm spending 4 of them in Thailand so have 2 spare at the end of my trip. Just looking for suggestions on places to spend them 2 weeks. I have been to both Laos (seen the whole country) and Cambodia (explored phnom penh, sihanoukville and siem reap) and from what I've read, I'd need a month to do Vietnam. Any suggestions on places to go? ...

SE Asia amateur here, help put together a rough 3/4 month plan

Posted by matthewaus on 21/1/2015 at 23:58

Hi everyone! New to the forum, recent lurker. I've been in Australia since June 2013 and with my work contract finishing up this month I'm looking to hit the road and head to SE Asia from February. I didn't initially plan on travelling SE Asia when I left the UK, so I'm getting my Hep A/B and Typhoid vaccinations next week. I'm also not very knowledgable on the area but recently I've been interested in heading there to travel around. I'm looking forward to not spending bloody A$300+ a week on ...

A quiet island/beach destination for the summer months.

Posted by marianaamc on 17/1/2015 at 17:51

I've been to SEA before but always skipped the beach destinations (besides in Indonesia- Amed beeing my favorite one). I want to comeback and I'll be in SEA in the summer months, still not sure for how long but from July on. I understand the summer months won't be great in most islands and beach destinations so I would want some opinions regarding my best options for this time of the year. I will probably go back to Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam. I would like somewhere where there was some so ...

Any durian lovers here? Will you help me learn about people who like durian?

Posted by Durianwriter on 2/2/2015 at 09:19

Hi all, Strange request, but I'm working on a study of people who love that stinky fruit, the durian, to submit to the Durian Symposium this summer in Chanthaburi. Our goal is to collect survey responses from 1,000 durian lovers around the globe. So far we're very close - 941 from more than 50 countries as of writing! If you have any appreciation for durian, would you please take five minutes to participate in the survey? Here is the link: Thanks ...

Best Way to Volunteer?

Posted by casey_r19 on 24/12/2014 at 19:00

Hello all, I will be traveling throughout SE Asia for roughly 3 months starting at the beginning of February and I am interested in volunteering for at least 1-2 weeks. Does anyone with some experience have any recommendations as to where I can look online to sign up? Specifically interested in building houses, working with children, environmental work, etc. My tentative itinerary includes Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, but I'm not limiting it to those 3 just yet. Help appreciated! ...

8 Weeks Indonesia and/or Phillipines...

Posted by nochnbier on 1/2/2015 at 11:33

Hi there, I'm planning a 2-Month trip in April and May... I've been to Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia so far, so now I'm thinking about Indonesia and / or the phillipines. What I want: nature, hiking, diving, cycling, the occasional backpacker-beer at the beach. Any suggestions, should I concentrate on one of the countries, or is both of them doable? Flights shouldn't be a problem, actually I saved money for a 6 month trip, but only got 2 months time now... Any tips? Which is the best travel gu ...

This was funny - over 30 tourists

1. Have someone wait for them at the arrivals area with an embarrassingly large sign. When Jeff and I arrived via train to Chiang Mai, we had someone from our guesthouse waiting for us with a very large, very white sign saying "Ms. A." As we walked with the driver to the car with the very large sign in tow, I spotted a group of backpackers scoffing at us. I was offended until I realized I used to be one of them. 2. Spend more time updating LinkedIn than Facebook. Because I need to ...

Ok so I've been thinking about a possible route for my travels next year. I can only travel in the month of June, July August and plan to do the full 3 months. After a fair bit of research into the wet seasons and speaking to friends who have been I think I have decided to stick with travelling the gulf of thailand, malaysia and inonesia. I have come up with a very rough idea of my route through SE Asia. I would love your opinions and advice as this is why I'm posting. Fly to Bangkok > Trav ...

Posted by The8BitFighter on 13/1/2015 at 06:51

Greetings all, I'll have about three weeks to do some traveling in SEA next month, and I was wondering if you some more experienced travelers could give me some recommendations or advice. I've also done some backpacking through the UK and Ireland. So not a novice traveler, but far from experienced. SEEK ...

Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. Do I need to pick up currency beforehand?

Posted by jennfaun on 8/1/2015 at 19:30

I'm flying into Bangkok so I can probably use an ATM there without needing to exchange currency beforehand but with Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam I'll be travelling overland so am not too sure how available ATMs are as soon as I cross the border. I don't want to be stuck with no local currency. I also don't want to carry around too much cash that I might lose. It's my first time visiting more than one country in one trip and I've confused myself somewhat. Any advice is appreciated, thanks! ...

Hi my friend and I are planning a huge trip within the next few years. We want to get everywhere without flying and want to know if anyone can tell us the best way to get to New Dehli, India from either Thailand or Laos. So far we are planning on travelling from either Thailand or Laos to the Taj Mahal, then to Mt Everest base camp, then to Beijing to catch the train to Moscow so we don't want to have to enter China more than twice unless we have to. Any advice would be much appreciated. Cheers ...

5 Month SE Asia itinerary- where to first?

Hi, You are probably all sick of the same question but I really can't decide where to go once I land in Bangkok. Three of us plan on backpacking across Thailand,Laos,Vietnam and Cambodia, starting from Bangkok in late March. Originally I thought heading up into Northern Thailand and then into Laos,Vietnam, Cambodia and eventually back into Southern Thailand (beaches) was a good idea mainly because finishing off with a few weeks on the Thai beaches sounded great. Also we have a few friends that a ...

My traveling companion now has to shorten the trip so it will be closer to 2 weeks. This is a possible itinerary, your comments and advice as always would be helpful: 2 days Bangkok 3 days Yangon 5 days Luang Prabang 5 days Siem Reap If you have other ideas it would be great to hear them! After doing just a little research we have giving some thought to adding Myanmar into the mix. But, by adding Myanma ...
