Posted by mikeyc2020 on 16/8/2014 at 05:41

Hi, I recently wrote some bits and bobs for a friend who is traveling alone around SEA. So I thought I would share. I went traveling with a friend, both mid 20s, both male. 11 weeks away. With it this been my first time around Asia, I just hit the usual tourist trail. Got a feel for the place, now I'm saving to go back in October and will head slightly off the beaten track of the usual sites. Enjoy. ~~~ Hey! Please excuse my spelling/grammar, just writing as I reminisce! Traveling solo - ...

The period in between is flexible. We want a diverse holiday with urban and rural experiences, culture, history, wildlife, adventure, exploration and night-life if it's possible to do that in 3 weeks! I would appreciate advice on where to visit in this period. The following locations have been discus ...

Best jungle/rainforest

Posted by Sundancekid4 on 27/6/2014 at 14:46

Hi there, My girlfriend and I are traveling Southeast Asia for 8 months (sept-May) and would like advise on some of people's favourite spots to do a jungle/rainforest trek. I know this is a very broad question but with 8 months we can go almost anywhere. The only place that we have ruled out is Borneo(even though it looks like it has great jungle trekking) it seems to hard to travel through and expensive. We are looking for a one day or multi-day experience where it's not too commercial and we ...

Why Thailand is Still the Best Southeast Asia Destination

Posted by exacto on 19/7/2014 at 21:24

There has been a lot of talk lately about the troubles associated with travelling to Thailand, including little things like military coups and visas not honored at the border and such. I've even read that international arrivals declined 11 percent from normal levels recently due to these issues. Even so, I've been thinking about it and I still think Thailand is the best destination in Southeast Asia. Here are a few reasons: - Better infrastructure: It is easier to get that bus or train or flig ...

Hi all, I'm flying to Bangkok next week to start a 2 month trip around Thai/Camb/Laos/Viet. This is my potential plan/itinerary (It get's less detailed as it goes on, to allow flexibility and the start is where I really need to know what I'm doing!). I haven't traveled before and will be travelling primarily alone, so any general advice on my route or to make my life easier would also be great, or places I should definitely go to. Anyone who might be in similar places to me at similar times and ...

Working as part of travelling

Posted by Connal on 13/7/2014 at 11:10

Hi guys, I'm planning on going travelling around SEA for several months starting around November with my partner. The problem is that we don't have a massive budget (maybe around £7000 between us) which needs to cover everything, including flights, visas, vaccinations, food, accommodation, etc. The length of our trip is really dependent on how much money we can scrape together. So to extend our trip we are thinking about finding some paid employment out there to generate some additional fun ...

Hi there, I am planning on doing about 2 weeks in malaysian Borneo. I am doing a 4 day/3 night sipadan dive package and was wondering what to do with the rest of my time. I think I have ruled out the Danum valley because it is too expensive. I would love something with a good jungle trek and overnight camp in the jungle if anyone knows of anything like that. Also, I am thinking about doing either Tabin wildlife reserve or the Kinabatangan wildlife sanctuary can anyone recommend which one is bet ...

Hi There, I'm was planning a trip to Thailand for August but have been waiting to see what happens wrt the coup. I know August isn't the ideal season but it's all I've got & people on the forums seem to say go for it anyway. I'm thinking it might be wisest to avoid Thailand & head to Vietnam / Laos / Cambodia. What do you think? It seems tricky to avoid flying into BKK. Do you think this is a problem? We'd ideally like to see the following: Temples Gibbon / forest / zip wire stuff ...

Great eating in Khao Sok National Park

Posted by jodymm on 10/6/2014 at 01:11

We arrived in Khao Sok National Park for a 5 day stay. I had read good eating reviews on Pawns Restaurant so was looking forward to trying it. However, Pawns was closed and my disappointment was great, once I got over it, we wandered down the road and found an open air cafe with lots of garden pots outfront with, lemongrass, different mints, chilli, eggplants of different shapes sizes and colours; Also a sign that promised Thai curries freshly made pastes, and a free homemade dessert! We deci ...
