Great eating in Khao Sok National Park

Posted by jodymm on 10/6/2014 at 01:11

We arrived in Khao Sok National Park for a 5 day stay. I had read good eating reviews on Pawns Restaurant so was looking forward to trying it. However, Pawns was closed and my disappointment was great, once I got over it, we wandered down the road and found an open air cafe with lots of garden pots outfront with, lemongrass, different mints, chilli, eggplants of different shapes sizes and colours; Also a sign that promised Thai curries freshly made pastes, and a free homemade dessert! We deci ...

Posted by Lewis2312 on 23/5/2014 at 10:01

Hi, Me and my girlfriend are spending 5 weeks, mid-June to mid-July, around SE Asia. We haven't planned much of an itinerary as we have just finished university and wanted it to be a spur of the moment plan. We have 3 weeks to plan it and in terms of criteria we would like to do some sightseeing, cultural activities, possibly a jungle trek, and any MUST see places. Nightlife is not of as great importance to us but we would still like to sample it. We are just looking for some advice on places w ...

FINDING PARADISE IN THAILAND/CAMBODIA

Posted by charlottem92 on 24/5/2014 at 12:00

Hi! I backpacked around Birma and Thailand for 60 days last summer and I'm so excited to go back to SEA. A couple of days ago I wrote a post on this forum about a potential itinerary for Thailand (return flight back to Europe from Bangkok), Laos and Cambodia. I'm travelling with my best friend (her first time in SEA!) so I'll have to revisit a couple of places in Thailand (not that I mind). After A LOT of research I've come up with this itinerary (and decided to skip Laos) and I'd like some fee ...

Restaurants and best traditional dishes!

Posted by marianaamc on 19/5/2014 at 17:26

I'll be going with my boyfriend to southeast asia. He's a young cook so food will be an important part of our journey and it's our first time visiting Asia. There are two restaurants we want to go to and have already made reservations, one of them is Gaggan and the other is Nahm, we'll go there the night before we fly back home (before he will take an internship there for two weeks). This two are in the top restaurants in the world, Nahm beeing the best in Asia. But we are also interested in m ...

First time travelling and going solo

Posted by Prairie_Matt on 19/5/2014 at 14:15

Hey Everyone, I have finally decided to act on a dream I have had for a very long time. I have wanted to backpack through Southeast Asia since I graduated high school but have never had anyone to come with me. I am now ready to go at it alone and not wait for someone. The Plan: Head over to Bangkok at the end of April/beginning of May 2015 and take about 5-6 weeks and to go through Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand. My must-sees: 1.) Angkor Wat 2.) HCMC/Saigon 3.) Mekong Delta 4.) Halong Bay 5 ...

13 weeks solo in SEA (June - Sept)

Posted by Maran on 21/4/2014 at 04:59

Hey there! I know this type of post has been done a lot, and I have got lots of great info reading others' threads, but I figure that there is no definitive answer to this type of query as it is always going to be specific to the person asking. Because the region is so vast and I can't visit everywhere, I would like to give details of my proposed trip and my interests so that I can gain advice from people who have travelled around SEA before to help me figure out where I should go etc. I see lo ...

Traveling SEA for approximately 5 weeks July-August 2014. Looking for advice :)

Posted by dupree on 3/4/2014 at 11:45

Hey everyone, I'm traveling to SEA this summer for around 5 weeks. I arrive in Bangkok July 9 and leave from Bangkok August 14. I am hoping on doing 4 countries (Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos). After much research, I will probably spend a majority of my time in Thailand and Vietnam. I will probably only be able to do Angkor Wat in Cambodia and if I have time restraints may have to omit Laos unfortunately. I would like to see the major sites as well as experience the culture of SEA. I woul ...

Hi there! I'm 23 and decided to have a long holiday before I start uni in September. Unfortunately none of my friends are in a position to be able to join me on this trip so i'll be heading out alone. I've backpacked round Australia before, but for some reason i'm abit more nervous about meeting people or lack of, I have no problem meeting new people. Aside from my main job I work behind a bar on weekends and seem to have no problem having a laugh with all the people I get to meet so I'm proba ...

Surprise trip for birthday, best weather late September.

Posted by Jadeknots on 17/5/2014 at 03:59

Hi. My hubby turns 60 in September and I want to surprise him with a week-long holiday. I am happy to have a tropical rainstorm every afternoon, if need be, but I don't want rain every day. (I sort of ruled out Georgetown in Malaysia for that reason) Our interests are street food, people watching, more street food. He's beer, I'm coffee. Not particularly interested in tourist packages, and really happy if our attempts at language are mis-interpreted and we get nothing like what we asked f ...

Cookie Cutter 3 Month SE Asia Itinerary

Posted by casey_r19 on 20/5/2014 at 00:47

Hello all, So I am planning a 3 month trip to SE Asia early next year. I am basically looking for a "cookie cutter" itinerary that excludes Thailand, only because I was there last year (loved it, want to see others). By cookie cutter I mean - hitting the main stops/cities before entering/exiting each country. I am open to all (Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Burma, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, etc.) and all forms of travel (flying, ground, boat). I fully realize that I will not hit each ...

Entering SEA - visa and forwarding ticket issues!

Posted by abergz07 on 18/5/2014 at 21:41

Hi all, My partner and I are wanting to backpack and I see that NZ is under the Visa exemption rule with Thailand. My concern with that is if we flew into Bangkok, travelled to Vietnam and Cambodia for 6ish weeks and then entered Thailand again leaving with our return ticket out of Bangkok, is this accepted? As in - does the outward ticket you need in Thailand acceptedif it is after the 30 days allowance from the Visa? Also, if we were to fly to Hanoi from Bangkok would we need to then prove ...

First time solo traveler off to SE Asia for 3 months next month, would appreciate some advice.

On June 23rd I will be flying from Cork, Ireland to Bangkok. I will be staying in South-East Asia until 8th September when I will flying home from Saigon. I will be working for an NGO in Hanoi for 8 weeks starting July 7th, for the two weeks beforehand and one after I will be free to travel around as I wish. I'm a first time traveler and as a result I do have some concerns about this trip, especially the initial two weeks. I currently planning on flying into Bangkok, spending a few days th ...

Do we have enough time for Vietnam & Cambodia?

Posted by cadrishon on 15/5/2014 at 04:43

Hi, me and a friend are planning on visiting South East Asia but aren't sure if we will have the time to do what we want. I was wondering if anyone with more experience could let me know what they think! We fly into Bangkok on the 13th July and plan to get a flight to Hanoi the next day. We then want to travel south through Vietnam seeing all the sights on the way and through Cambodia until we get back to Bangkok. The problem is that we have to meet a friend in Bangkok on the 8th August (We t ...

Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos

Posted by KatieWalker on 6/4/2014 at 14:21

I have booked two weeks in SE Asia and am hoping to see the best bits of Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. I fly in to Ho Chi Minh and out of Hanoi and want to do a mixture of beach, culture and nightlife. I'm up for lots of flights and overnight trains to minimise travel time but have no idea what the best route would be, and if it's feasible to do a mixture of all 3 countries. A rough idea is: Ho Chi Minh Siem Reap Phnom Penh Mui Ne Nha Trang Vientiane Luang Prabang Hanoi Would be amazing to hear ...

Cost of living (not traveling) in SEA

Posted by buecax on 28/4/2014 at 03:38

Hi all, I am interested in the actual cost of living (as opposed to travelling) in Southeast Asia, i.e. rent, food, internet, etc. My situation is this: Although I have savings on which I could survive for a couple of years, I currently only have a monthly income of about 300EUR (400$) which in Germany isn't even enough to pay the rent. I expect my income to rise but it won't double or triple overnight. I do not need to live in expensive Germany, all I need to be able to work is a fast and rel ...

6 Week (ish) SEA Itinerary, starting it Vietnam, Cambodia... Malaysia?

Posted by Flamebadger on 26/4/2014 at 05:49

Hey all My girlfriend and I are going travelling for the second time in September. We are emigrating from the UK to Australia, and on the way we've decided to fit in about 6 weeks of travelling in South East Asia. We have both previously been to Thailand and Laos, and while I'm not the sort of person to dismiss either country or label them as 'done', considering the work awaiting us out in Australia this could well be our last opportunity to travel, at least for a good few years, and as such w ...

SE Asia Itinerary Help

Hello, I am trying to plan a trip to SE Asia for this summer. My dates are not too flexible, I will need to travel from the beginning of July until the beginning of August. There has been so much information and itineraries available, I feel like I am overloaded with information! Any advice on the following would be greatly appreciated: 1. Would you advise to book RT airfare in and out of Bangkok? The things on my wish list right now are: Full Moon Party on 7/13, Phi Phi Island in Thailand, Ph ...
