Hi, I am from Malaysia and I am planning to have a backpack trip from August 2017 onwards till January of 2018 for couple of months (4-5 months). My initial plan is to start with Vietnam south (HCMC) > Vietnam Central then road trip to Cambodia then back to Vietnam Central to the south > then Laos> ChiangMai> Thailand BKK (last stop perhaps ) Do you think this is a good plan for road trip? As I have been to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh previously, so I may skip Hanoi this time and HCMC ...

2 week trip in SE Asia - looking for feedback and recommendations!

Posted by mnkypants on 20/4/2017 at 11:44

Hi there! My boyfriend and I will be traveling around SE Asia for 2 weeks in July. We have a sample itinerary but are not sure if it's doable with the amount of time that we have, and if we're hitting the right spots. We are in our 30's and aren't really into the party scene, but would like to go out for a casual drink some nights. We'd like a mix of city, nature, beach, temples and villages during our trip. Another thing to consider is that I have mobility limitations, meaning I have a tough ti ...

Route through Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia

Posted by Kmcgregor1 on 22/4/2017 at 02:56

Hi guys I will be heading to Laos from Chiang Rai next week and staying for 1 month. I'm just abit stuck on how best to plan my route. I like traveling quite slow so I was thinking to spend my time in North Laos and head over to Vietnam overland. Then head down Vietnam into Cambodia. I'll then head back to Thailand to meet my friends at the end of July. I also had the idea to maybe go from north Laos down south and into Cambodia overland then head to Vietnam overland, make my way up north ...

Hey! After Thailand I was headed to Cambodia. Famous for it's Ankor Wat temple complex, it also is home to a pretty great Island called Koh Rong, one of a few places where you can swim with phosphorescent plankton at night! I tried to squeeze it all in under a minute again LG Chris ...

Traveling to SEA in Oct-Nov - Where to?

Posted by emeve on 1/4/2017 at 08:00

Hello, my boyfriend and I are planning to travel to South East Asia for the first time in Mid-October/November. We would like to spend 3 weeks enjoying nature, beaches, culture and good food. We don't want to stress ourselves traveling from one place to the other every few days, so ideally we travel to no more than 3 or 4 locations and from there do so some day trips. Although this might be hard on certain locations, we would like to avoid as much as possible very touristic and crowded areas. W ...

SE Asia during off season.. help!

Posted by inivory on 17/1/2017 at 15:32

Hi all, I am planning on traveling SE Asia from March-June and am learning that this is the hottest time of year to visit this area. I am also reading quite a bit about the burning in the area and am in a bit of a panic. Would you advise against going to this region at this time of year altogether? Would you suggest a specific route to avoid scorching hot areas and burning while still getting to see each of the 4 inland countries in 4 months? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you!!! ...

URGENT - What's the deal with Visas?

Posted by WanderlustTJ on 20/3/2017 at 12:48

Hey, myself and two friends have booked a SINGLE flight to Bangkok on the 5th April. We intend to spend about two weeks in Thailand, then two weeks in Cambodia, and finally two weeks in Vietnam. What type of VISAs do we need for each country? Can we get them on arrival at the country's airport/land border, or do we need to apply for them before we even board the flight? How much will each one cost? All three of us are British citizens with UK passports. We have no proof of onward travel (and ...

Itinerary Advice- 5 weeks on mainland SE Asia

Posted by lsmith0017 on 15/3/2017 at 00:38

Hello, I've been reading a lot of advice about traveling through SEA and I put together a tentative itinerary. A friend and I (each in our late 20s) will be traveling from mid-June to late July. We've been living in the Caucuses for the past 2 years and are taking the long way home. Any advice on the itinerary would be great. I know each country could be it's own trip but with 5 weeks we wanted to get a good overview of the mainland section. Additionally, any advice on places to stay and things ...

Help with SEA plan for June

Posted by yearn2travel on 18/2/2017 at 07:58

Looking to travel with spouse and 10 year old to SEA throughout June. I know it's not the best time of the year to be in the region, but we may just have to go with it. I'm used to planning everything, but since this is the low season, I was hoping I could step out of my shell and plan on the fly. However, we've never done that...and with a child in tow in the could spell disaster. We also plan on flying a lot to save time, but some flights seem expensive at $200/person. I wasn't sure ...

Hi all. I'm planning to become ex-pat. I want to figure out best way to leave quality of life items, including the bag I bring them in. As I explore the region I like to come back somewhere and cook, have unneeded seasonal clothes stashed. Perhals !eave a laptop. Simple kitchen stuff. Health stuff. What comes to mind is renting a minimal flat yearly, or having a tin box I can stash safely. If someone knows a cheap way to have kitchen access when hopping around, I'd like to hear it. My focus ...

Visa applications for Cambodia and Vietnam

Posted by Francie1951 on 15/2/2017 at 00:13

Hi. We have travelled by air to Ho Chi Minh from New Zealand on other occasions and have always applied for a letter of approval for our visas on-line before our departure. We know this only applies to those visitors flying into Vietnam. This trip we are flying in to Siem Reap , Cambodia and then travelling to Vietnam overland. We have found by researching on the internet that we can apply for visas for Cambodia on-line before leaving New Zealand or apply at Siem Reap airport on arrival. ...

Hi Everyone, My wife and I are planning to take a trip to Vietnam and Cambodia (20 days or thereabouts), and have found an ideal private tour package with Tonkin Travel. I have been looking at flights from London Heathrow, flying into Hanoi (or or around the 18th Jan 2018) and returning at the end of the trip from Siem Reap to Heathrow (on or around the 7th Feb 2018, ahead of the Tet holidays). My problem is that many of the airlines are currently offering discounted fares for 2017 but none ...

Ahoy fellow travellers. My partner and I are currently planning a 6ish month trip to South East Asia, from Jan 2017 anywhere up early September 2017. Planning the itinerary to make sure we avoid terrible weather is proving to be difficult as I really want to travel quite slowly but I don't want to stay in one place too long and miss all the good weather! I'm hoping someone with a litttttle more experience than I, might be able to give us a few tips! So far, I'm thinking; Arrive Bangkok - 1 w ...
