Relaxing starting point in SE Asia for november?

Posted by jameslon on 17/10/2016 at 15:47

Im travelling in SE Asia in november. Im hoping ill figure my route out as I go (one of the appeals of traveling for me) but can anyone recommend a chilled out place to start that wont break the bank? Im a sociable person but initially I don't want a party scene. A few bars etc so I can meet other travellers would be good but I'm not interested in getting wasted. Basically all I need is a beach, wifi and a hostel where I don't have to share a room! Cheers ...

SO, in January I plan on buying a one way ticket to Bangkok and travel around south east Asia until I either get tired of the journey or when I run out of money. Now, my problem here is what kind of problems will I run into with immigration, in the case that I wont have an exactly detailed plan on how long I will spend in each country. And I am not sure how it works with the different countries and ...

Ticket buying - HELP! :)

Hi! This is my first post. In November my boyfriend and I are embarking on our SE Asia adventure for 1.5 months, and I am confused on how to buy the flight tickets. We have already bought them for Indonesia and Japan, but then we are planning to go to Thailand (Bangkok & Krabi), Myanmar (Mandalay and Bagan), Vietnam (Hanoi and Danang), Laos (Luang Prabang) and finally Philippines (Palawan). Should I buy the tickets in advance or leave it flexible? Tickets are already relatively expensive a ...

Dental care in Southeast Asia (anywhere)

Posted by gottagetaway on 22/3/2011 at 06:10

For the last several months I've been gearing up for an epic tour of SE Asia (see some of my previously submitted /travel threads). Since I'm planning to quit my job before I go I've been making sure I have health checkups while I still have insurance. I went to the dentist yesterday, and they tell me that getting six fillings, two root canals and two crowns, will cost me nearly $3000 USD! My first thought was -- "well there goes my trip!" I'm going to get a second opinion from ano ...

Island Paradise suggestion

Posted by uncleanslim on 26/7/2016 at 12:44

Hi everyone, I am in the midst of planning my 2nd SE Asia trip and would really like to start things off (after the obligatory layover in Bangkok) with a bit of beach time. Last time around we really enjoyed our time on the quieter part of Koh Lanta and Gili Trawangan, but not so much the built up holiday maker vibe of Koh Lipe and the lack of snorkelling in Langlawi. We were initially thinking of going to the Philippines (El Nido/Coron) but after looking into it, it seems like the air travel ...

Travel for 6 months partially low altitude partial high

Posted by sanfairyanne on 20/8/2016 at 01:30

I'm going to be traveling for six months, 80% of that time will be low altitude, however, on some occasions I want to do some high altitude trekking. I can't give the insurance company the specific dates and of course I don't want to pay a huge premium high altitude insurance for the full six months. Before I start speaking to insurance companies I wondered if anyone had any advice. I suppose the obvious choice would be to take a more regular insurance then contact my insurance provider when I'm ...

Itinerary Bangkok, Vietnam. Cambodia

i have flights booked to and from Bangkok for Feb 2017 for a three week stay. I am really struggling with an itinerary. We are a couple in our mid sixties and reasonably fit but not keen on backpacking. We plan on three days in Bangkok at the end of our stay and about a week on a beach. We have been advised to try Chiang Mai but I'm worried that it will be too commercialised for us. Is it feasible do travel to Siem Reap and how long would we need there. How do I choose a beach stay? We like ...

Itinerary help -

Hi all, I recently booked a RT ticket to Bangkok (July 12-August 4), but I have literally nothing else planned. I've sketched out a rough itinerary below, but it's way too ambitious for 24 days. Does anyone know what I should prioritize? What I should skip? I'm not much of a partier, and I tend to like history, culture, and nature. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Land in Bangkok (1-2 days) Siem Riep/Angkor Wat (2-3 days) Ho Chi Minh City/Mekong River Delta (3 days) Hoi An/Da Nang/Hue (1 d ...
