3 weeks in SE Asia

Posted by dj_gon on 13/11/2013 at 13:19

Hello, I was in SE Asia for 2.5 weeks back in April and got to see Bangkok, Ao Nang, Singapore, and Siem Reap . It was a bit of a rush, but I really enjoyed Bangkok for its craziness and tasty street foods and Siem Reap for Angkor. I'm now planning to go back there in January for about 3 weeks. This time, I'm thinking about going to different countries. Is Vietnam worth going? Will it be as good as Bangkok? I'm thinking about 9 days in Vietnam starting from Hanoi -> Hue or Danang (Hoi ...

Pre book accommodation or not?

Posted by jessica_chant on 25/10/2013 at 05:00

In January I will be travelling south east asia in a group of 5 people. We start in Bangkok. Will it be relatively easy to find accommodation as a group or is it worth trying to pre-book something before we leave? Over 4-5 months we will eventually travel through Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia and Indonesia so obviously we won't be pre booking most of the trip, but are there any places which may be more difficult to find accommodation together? Thank you in advance, Jess ...

Worried about pesticides for bed bugs during backpacking SE Asia

Posted by cpbaugil on 11/11/2013 at 21:13

Hello everyone, My husband and I are planning on backpacking SE Asia for 9 weeks from Feb 17, 2014-Aril 24, 2014. We plan on visiting Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Thailand. I have been recently been informed about all of the deaths throughout the past couple of years due to harmful pesticides used in hotel rooms and guest houses to get rid of bed bugs. Apparently, the lethal pesticide is called chlorpyrifos and has thought to have killed several young backpackers in Thailand and Vietnam. Since ...

A few random security related questions I\\\'m hoping you can answer!

Posted by cbg0927 on 8/11/2013 at 16:36

Hello all - getting ready for my trip through the region starting December 4th in Bangkok and working my way throughout Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Indo (8-12 months). A few questions... -First off, I was initially planning on bringing my 85L osprey waypoint. The more and more I've read, it seems this will be overkill. Bought an REI 40L Vagabond days ago...can anyone attest to taking an 8-12 month trip through the region with a bag this size? I'm a guy, and I'll have minimal clothing ...

First backpacking adventure!

Posted by stemay on 11/11/2013 at 08:33

Hi guys, We're a couple planning our first ever backpacking trip across SE Asia and would appreciate any feedback and/or advice! We're aiming to leave the UK late February-early March, and have a spending budget of at least £5000, not including flights. We're leaving everything behind, jobs, flat, most of our possessions, for this trip of a lifetime, so the idea is to be out there for as long as possible. On our current budget, this may get us by for about 8 months, but we're not adverse to ...

8+ countries in 2 months?

Posted by thedunnyman on 21/8/2011 at 16:08

Hello all, Nearing the completion of my 5-year university degree, I plan to go travelling in Asia for 2 to 2.5 months from December this year. (I live in Australia by the way) I've never been to Asia before and I'm not sure how to plan this. Firstly, I have a friend who did something similar and went to quite a few countries. But reading some threads on this forum, it seems some think that this is not enough time to go to so many places. I plan just to get a 'feel' for each country and see th ...

Chiang Mai - Laos - Vietnam itinerary - suggestions?

Posted by somanights on 27/10/2013 at 08:06

Hi all. We're currently on the road in Thailand, heading North towards Chiang Mai. We plan to do Laos from Nov 14th when our Visa runs out, and head around Laos until our Vietnam visas commence on 10 December. The question is - which direction should we take around Laos, and where should we enter Vietnam? We've not seen a single beach yet in SE Asia, and would love to correct that around Christmas time. Thanks! ...

Thailand Islands over xmas

Posted by treanoc on 28/10/2013 at 22:51

Hi all Can anyone recommend where myself and my partner should stay for 2 weeks over Christmas. we arrive in bangok on the 18th December and leave 2 weeks later. We would probably visit 2/3 islands we generally just want a laid back beach/poolside holiday with plenty of choice for day trips/food.bars etc. We are both 27 so while we dont want a crazy party atmosphere we would still enjoy a bit of hustle and bustle! Maybe a large island for a few days then a couples retreat place for another few ...

Travel from Pakse to Cambodia (Kratie, Pnom Phen or Siem Reap)

Posted by takezo on 27/10/2013 at 06:03

Hey! Looking for some up-to-date (and I really mean up to date;)) info on overland travel from Pakse to Cambodia. Planning to spend some time in Pakse, then on to the 4000 islands and in to Cambodia. Not sure whether I will go all the way to Pnom Phen. Might have to go straight to Siem Reap for time reasons. I heard there are no boat services to the border any more? I am aware that bus travel will be tedious under any circumstances, but every bit of info (who to book with, individually or ...
