Hey guys, I'll be traveling on my own through Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia from Feb 5th - April 29th, and I'm struggling with the question what route is the best one to follow. I know there is a countless amount of threads dealing with itineraries and yes I did read them, but I still have a hard time to figure out which one is the best according to my situation, taking everything into amount (budget, time-limit,weather conditions,...). 3 facts are certain: I fly both to and back from B ...

martial arts

Posted by stu6742 on 18/6/2013 at 21:13

I'm look for advice and insights on studying martial arts in Asia. I plan to come to Asia in Sept (preferably somewhere warm by a beach) to study martial arts for 3 months. I have not picked a location or type of art yet. I'm trying to find a form of art that is more spiritual (I admire ancient ways of life similar to the samurai & yoga practices) but still allows me to defend myself (ideally without breaking bones). ...

I'm more the relaxed beach and islands guy and my girlfriend loves nice landscapes and the local cu ...

Posted by takezo on 14/11/2013 at 04:35

I am touring Laos and Cambodia between December and early January and was wondering whether it might be a good idea to book rooms in advance and/or what happens when you find something nicer, cheaper etc., i.e. can I simply cancel the remaining days/check out without having to pay a partial refund? Thanks ...

Have rough dates in my head for around the 1-3/02/14 to around the 17/02/14. I'm looking advice from anyone who may have travelled from China (Eastern) to Thailand on a few things. South East Asia Itinerary

Posted by amringro on 17/11/2013 at 23:37

I'm planning a five week trip to Thailand + a few other destinations in SE Asia. I'm trying to figure out which other countries I should include, along with Thailand: Laos and Cambodia or Malaysia and Singapore. And whether I should add any time in Vietnam. Or any other amazing places to see. I really love snorkelling, so will be spending a few days on a live aboard in the Similan and Surin Islands and then heading out to Bangkok to continue the rest of my trip. I also love animals and would l ...

Cambodia & Vietnam & Laos & North Thailand and Malaysia & Indonesia (Sumatra and Java)

Posted by schwev on 18/11/2013 at 16:59

Hi All, We are planning a 10 weeks trip Southeast Asia from mid January to March. Some background: We are a couple in their 30's. I like beach, culture and food and my husband likes outdoorsy stuff such as jungles, trekking and nature. We both don't like places overrun by tourists. As it is quite a long trip for us, our budget is low to mid range, ideally boutique accommodation (around £50 a night) with the occasional splurge. We can afford flights between locations and don't need to bus i ...

3 weeks in SE Asia

Posted by dj_gon on 13/11/2013 at 13:19

Hello, I was in SE Asia for 2.5 weeks back in April and got to see Bangkok, Ao Nang, Singapore, and Siem Reap . It was a bit of a rush, but I really enjoyed Bangkok for its craziness and tasty street foods and Siem Reap for Angkor. I'm now planning to go back there in January for about 3 weeks. This time, I'm thinking about going to different countries. Is Vietnam worth going? Will it be as good as Bangkok? I'm thinking about 9 days in Vietnam starting from Hanoi -> Hue or Danang (Hoi ...

Pre book accommodation or not?

Posted by jessica_chant on 25/10/2013 at 05:00

In January I will be travelling south east asia in a group of 5 people. We start in Bangkok. Will it be relatively easy to find accommodation as a group or is it worth trying to pre-book something before we leave? Over 4-5 months we will eventually travel through Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia and Indonesia so obviously we won't be pre booking most of the trip, but are there any places which may be more difficult to find accommodation together? Thank you in advance, Jess ...

Worried about pesticides for bed bugs during backpacking SE Asia

Hello everyone, My husband and I are planning on backpacking SE Asia for 9 weeks from Feb 17, 2014-Aril 24, 2014. We plan on visiting Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Thailand. I have been recently been informed about all of the deaths throughout the past couple of years due to harmful pesticides used in hotel rooms and guest houses to get rid of bed bugs. Apparently, the lethal pesticide is called chlorpyrifos and has thought to have killed several young backpackers in Thailand and Vietnam. Since ...

A few random security related questions I\\\'m hoping you can answer!

Hello all - getting ready for my trip through the region starting December 4th in Bangkok and working my way throughout Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Indo (8-12 months). A few questions... -First off, I was initially planning on bringing my 85L osprey waypoint. The more and more I've read, it seems this will be overkill. Bought an REI 40L Vagabond days ago...can anyone attest to taking an 8-12 month trip through the region with a bag this size? I'm a guy, and I'll have minimal clothing ...

First backpacking adventure!

Posted by stemay on 11/11/2013 at 08:33

Hi guys, We're a couple planning our first ever backpacking trip across SE Asia and would appreciate any feedback and/or advice! We're aiming to leave the UK late February-early March, and have a spending budget of at least £5000, not including flights. We're leaving everything behind, jobs, flat, most of our possessions, for this trip of a lifetime, so the idea is to be out there for as long as possible. On our current budget, this may get us by for about 8 months, but we're not adverse to ...

8+ countries in 2 months?

Posted by thedunnyman on 21/8/2011 at 16:08

Hello all, Nearing the completion of my 5-year university degree, I plan to go travelling in Asia for 2 to 2.5 months from December this year. (I live in Australia by the way) I've never been to Asia before and I'm not sure how to plan this. Firstly, I have a friend who did something similar and went to quite a few countries. But reading some threads on this forum, it seems some think that this is not enough time to go to so many places. I plan just to get a 'feel' for each country and see th ...
