South East Asia in early November

Posted by KarenLouise on 28/6/2006 at 19:50

I'm thinking about spending a week in SE Asia (as a stop off from HK) in the first week of November. THis seems to clash with the wet season (especially in Thailand). Can anyone recommend a chilled place to go with nice beaches during this time? Koh Chang seems like a safter bet weather-wise... thanks ...

Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam in 3 weeks

Posted by bbluedd on 16/7/2013 at 04:04

I have read many posts saying that I will need more time than 3 weeks to travel Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam, but please hear me out and help. My friend and I can only take 3 weeks off work, and we really want to visit all three countries. We understand we may not hit all the main attractions. With such a tight schedule, we know we won't get to relax a lot, but we are excited about being on the move all the time. We like sightseeing from buses and trains too. We are interested in experiencin ...

Travelling in Southeast Asia during Ramadan

Posted by sambrown on 12/7/2013 at 04:32

From our Malaysia wire: "Ramadan can be a mystery for many travellers passing through predominantly Muslim terrain. Messages of 'everything will be closed' are often passed along the backpacking word-of-mouth trail, but rest assured, besides a few inconveniences of finding some businesses closed or perhaps a ferry schedule changed, it's not too big a deal. The cultural experience alone is worth the extra effort of working your schedule around any inconveniences." Read the full post ...

9 Weeks in SE Asia. Is four countries too much!?

Posted by TravelTim1 on 14/7/2013 at 15:24

I'm planning my first experience solo travelling through mainland SE Asia next year for two months (9 weeks) after the school year is finished. The plan right now is to travel through Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam. When I originally thought up this plan, it seemed like it would be plenty of time to take in all four countries but after reading many posts and advice that has been given on the forums, I'm starting to wonder if I should maybe cut the trip down to 3 countries. Possibly only T ...

Can anyone envisage any immigration/visa isses with having a return date 6 months in the future? (UK passport holder) Also can anyone recommend anywhere nice to stay that has private ensuite but also has a good communal area so it's easy to meet other travellers? ie strikes a nice balance between hotel ...

Recommended itinerary for SEA from South Africa for 4 weeks over Dec 2013/Jan 2014

Posted by claireshean87 on 23/2/2013 at 05:55

Hello fellow travellers, We are a small group of ladies (+/- 5-6) in our mid-twenties that are looking to travel to South East Asia from South Africa for 4 weeks over December 2013/January 2014 (projected dates in SEA are 12/12/2013 - 11/1/2014). We would like to cover Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam during this time. So much to see - so little time! We are pretty clueless at this stage, but we do know that we would like to do it on a medium to low budget (the Rand doesn't go very far! 1 ZAR = 889.2 ...

Help me with South East Asia Travel Itinerary

Posted by charms204 on 30/6/2013 at 23:32

I am planning to travel sometime in September or October for a month. I might extend it up to 45 days. I am hoping to cover Myanmar,Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, East Malaysia and Indonesia. I know this is a long list for such a short period but I can drop off Indonesia and East Malaysia if there is going to be a time constraint. I want to travel in a relaxed way and would like to see as much as I can. Each country will have a lot of nice places to visit and I am yet to start my research on this. I ...

Boat Trips HCMC to Phnom Penh help!

Posted by crazylegs on 28/6/2013 at 03:34

Hello all (again!) My planning is going well so far but I've been looking at getting from HCMC to PP by doing a boat tour and it seems a little out of our budget. That could be purely down to poor research on my behalf so any recommendations would be welcome. I was wondering if doing the trip in stages and taking day trips / afternoon trips around the delta might work out cheaper and allow us to still see some of the delta. We don't have much time but we aren't on strict backpacker budgets (I' ...

Banlung to Champassak

Posted by billytheliar on 21/6/2013 at 05:36

Does anybody have any suggestions about the route Banlung -Champassak? Does catching the first transport possibility in the morning (from Banlung to Stung Treng ) make it possible to travel onward to the Lao border and further to Champassak in the same day? The point is, I would rather avoid staying overnight in Stung Treng or arriving in Champassak after dark and I understand that the second will be the case, if I get the Phnom Penh-Pakse bus (Sorya?). If not on this bus, will it be problemat ...

Would love some advice on what would be the best transportation heading to Vietnam (is it worth going through Cambodia just to reach Vietnam, or is flying the only option?) What would make more sense, starting with Vietnam or Laos? Thanks ...

Non-Latex Condoms in SE Asia??

Posted by setaysha on 19/6/2013 at 01:32

I am allergic to latex and plan to travel in South East Asia for an extended period of time with my boyfriend. Obviously it isn't viable for us to stock up on condoms for the entire trip before we go, but that is our main form of contraception (due to other allergies, annoying but unavoidable). Has anyone ever found/purchased latex free condoms in South East Asia and if so where did you find them and what was the price like? Thanks so much for your help! ...
