Vietnam, but where else?

Posted by nickjamesjordan on 13/8/2013 at 06:07

Hi, I am off to visit my girlfriend who is teaching in Hanoi, Vietnam at the end of the year. I have given myself a month total to spend away, I would like to spend the final two weeks of the month with her in Hanoi, however for the first two weeks doing a little travelling, I have looked at spending a couple of days in alternate countries around Vietnam but would like some advice on where to go if I only have a short time in each place, and where to go. I will be okay for saving a fairly substa ...

What\'s your favorite beer in SE Asia?

Posted by mattocmd on 9/8/2013 at 19:48

I searched the forum and saw that exacto posted a similar question in 2006...so since it's been a while, I'd like to ask again.. What's your favorite beer in SE Asia? and What's your favorite beer in the world? (I'm asking about widely available beers, not craft beers that we've never heard of) ______________ Tiger Beer is my 'go to' beer in SE Asia. I find it smooth and tasty. Perfect if I just want one or if I plan on drinking all night. Favorite in the world...I'd have to say Sapporo ...

Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Indonesia (particularly the Gili islands!) We are staying for 5 nights in Bangkok on arrival, before moving on - so my first question is... - ...

Hello all, I am planning to visit South East Asia with my partner for 3 months (13 weeks), leaving at the end of Jan 2014 and would like some advice and suggestions please. We are flying from London to Bangkok and plan to head north before going to Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia and back to the South of Thailand to visit the Andaman coast. I would also love to visit some Indonesian islands - maybe Bali and Lombok, but I appreciate that this might be logistically difficult and I don't want to feel ...

Sihanoukville - Beach Bars/Local Food

Posted by liskaw123 on 10/5/2013 at 15:32

Hi, we are going to Vietnam and Cambodia for 6 nights each and wanted a 8 night beach break at the end (28th Nov - 6th Dec) but I am really torn as to where to choose! We want somewhere with a nice beach and a good choice of local restaurants and chilled beach bars that we can sit in until late (not night clubs nor somehwere where everything closes at 11!). Would like to be able to do a couple of trips, bit of shopping, foot massages and some scuba diving. Was considering Sihanoukville/Thailand( ...

So I thought about my itinerary, and planned something like that: 1)Arrive in Bangkok 2) Bangkok - Ko Phi Phi (I want to do it overland) 3) Ko Phi Phi - Ko Samui 4)Ko Samui - Ko Pha Ngan - Ko Samui (apparently there is a ferry connecting these two islands, then I was planning on staying over in Samui, and on new year`s eve head to Pha Ng ...

My friend and I are planning on traveling to SEA and India between mid-May-Julyish. I've read the weather "warnings" in my LP guidebook but how bad is it actually going to be? I've been to China before from May-July so I know the heat/humidity aspect of Asia, but is the rain going to be a killjoy for our trip? Thanks! ...

Tai Chi & QiGong in Southeast Asia

Posted by noslen on 27/7/2013 at 12:56

Hi everyone, I will be traveling to Southeast Asia (Bali, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam & Cambodia) for 6 months from September on and would like to practice some Tai Chi & QiGong along the way. I've been doing Tai Chi (Yang-style shortform) & QiGong for about 8 months and would love to continue practicing in groups during my travels. I am not necessarily looking for complete courses but more for 'drop-in' kind of classes. I know that both Tai Chi & QiGong is often practiced in park ...

6 months backpacking solo in SE Asia

Hi, I decided about a month a go to finally fulfill my dream of backpacking around Southeast Asia (and on to Australia). I'm doing a lot of research and reading on Southeast Asia but would really like some advise from people who have been there and done it! (The Australia part of the trip is relatively easy to plan as I know the country pretty well already) I'm a 31 yo male (taking a career break) and will be travelling on my own. I'll have around £10k to pay for my flights, equipment, insura ...

Driving from Ho Chi Minh to Bangkok - Is it safe?

Posted by bzmar on 25/7/2013 at 09:31

Hi all! We are flying to Ho Chi Minh and returning from Bangkok. Due to limited days (only 2 weeks) we were thinking of renting a car and drive by the coast from Ho Chi Minh, through Cambodia and end up in Bangkok. When looking at distances on Google map it's 1,500km so approx 20 hours driving. So quite doable in that scene as we will do it within 15 days. We also found that Avis offers drop-off in a different country so that's fine. My concern is if it's actually safe to drive in those countri ...

Itinerary & Young Teens

Posted by mandanickel on 19/7/2013 at 11:07

I am planning a trip to Southeast Asia next summer, and plan to bring along my two girls...ages 13 and 15 at the time of travel. Due to school schedules we will arrive the last week of May and leave the first week of August. (We live in the Southern US, so are used to summertime showers throughout almost every day. They come and go and rarely last long before the sun is back out. From what I've read it seems SEA's rainy season is similar so I think we will be ok in that regard.) While I have no ...

3 weeks, malaysia/viet/thailand...please help me start!

Posted by slowtyper on 21/7/2013 at 10:15

I will be in asia for vacation Aug 22 to Sep 23. 1 week will be spent in Seoul, then my girl and I have three weeks to travel. I prefer to stay in one area and just soak it up. My girlfriend prefers to see many wonderful things and different places, so we will have to compromise and do a bit of each. Luckily however,we both are not into big cities or tourist attractions that are very "touristy". Not really into lazing around on the beach. FOOD is a major facet of the trip. I'm ...
