Budget and pre-book advise please

Posted by ajf on 3/9/2012 at 08:33

Hi All, I'm looking to do Thailand, Phi Phi island, Angkor wat and Holong bay in November this year. How much should I budget? (tours and travel agents here in South Africa seem to be quoting me quite high around R25 000 for the trip) and should I pre-book accomodation if I'm doing independant travel etc? ...

S.E Asia onwards to New Zealand. First time Freedom Backing.

Posted by Greatlookinguy on 2/8/2012 at 21:00

Yyyep, that's what I'm calling it. Freedom Backpacking! Heh. Probably what you regulars have been doing all the while, but then yours truly is a planning freak deluxe a la grande. And whenever I've travelled around Eastern Europe (am a lad based out of London) I've been the one planning out every single last detail of the holiday for my friends and myself.. from where to stay, what to do, when to do it, the tips, tricks and secrets, even prepping locals via C0uchsurfing, WAYN and other websites ...

What technology should I take to stay in touch?

Posted by JustinC474 on 30/8/2012 at 14:06

Hi all, So I'm heading to Bangkok the last week of September and am planning on being in SE Asia 3-4 months. I'm obviously going to want to stay in touch with my friends and family back at home, as was wondering what the best way to do that was. I'm thinking that my IPod may prove sufficient, since I can check email on it and go online as long as I have Wi-Fi. So that being said, is it pretty easy to find Wi-Fi access throughout SE Asia? This may be a stupid question.... but I've never been to ...

SE Asia in 3 weeks

I am going to SE Asia for a medical mission trip in southern Vietnam then staying for 3 weeks in December/January. I am a young medical student who want to see all the nature, unique things, party, and some historical sites (probably in that order). I dont mind cheap accommodations/lodging/food but I dont have much time so I will probably fly from place to place. beside that I guess I am a backpacker. I was going to try to squeeze in the following. please adjust the time or add or subtract activ ...

Travelling without pre-booking bus/train/flights - a Goonie in pursuit of a real adventure

Posted by AndyPandy on 26/8/2012 at 04:34

Hi all, I'm still in the thick of putting together my "wishlist" of places to visit for the 4 countries I'll be travelling to next month. I'm getting SO EXCITED!! Your tips have been duly noted and I'm very aware of not trying to cram too much in the 12 weeks I have to play with. Definitely want a real adventure of my own with a bit of downtime thrown in before going back to work in the new year. Can I just ask, for peace of mind, are there any places in particular when travelling be ...

Critique our itinerary: 26 days in SE Asia

Posted by pcharrig on 21/2/2011 at 01:45

My wife and I are trying to plan the rough contours of our trip to SE Asia (Thailand, Laos, Cambodia) in November 2011. We will be traveling with our 10-month-old, so we are not making too many precise plans, but we know want to spend the majority of the time in northern Laos. Traveling with the kid means that flights will be easier than overland travel, so we need to get our flights figured out first, and then we can fill in the details. That being said, we would like to be efficient in the f ...

I've done a lot of research on suggested itineraries for Thailand for such little time, but am constantly second guessing what I come up with after reading mixed opinions from everybody. Here's what I have so far... - Bangkok for five days (which includes trips to Ayatthaya as well as Khao Yai Park) - Kanchanaburi for upwards of two days - Chiang Mai for between three to four days - Koh Pah Ngan for three days - Koh Tao for two days One thought I had was to spend one less day in Koh Pah Ng ...

So, first of all, I'll say thank you in advanced to anyone who can give my some guidance. I have been waiting to post in this forum for a while and spent a good amount of time over many a beer, trawling through this forum, reading people's plans, feeling jealous and dreaming of the time I start my trip. I have browsed several other Forums, including LonelyPlanet and I look forward to being a member of this community, it seems people here give more honest and down to earth feedback, as well as ...
