Hi, I hope someone can help me evaluate this travel plan...I have never been to southeast asia and this is definitely a once in a lifetime trip for me. I have 6 weeks and I'm on a bit of a budget and this is what I'm thinking. Fly into Bangkok and spend 3 nights to rest and look around Fly from there to Luang Prabang and spend 5 nights Fly into Hanoi and spend 7 nights (including 2 nights on Hao Long Bay) Take the train to Saigon, sleeping overnite and stopping in Hue/DaNang/Hoi An, 8 night ...

Planning a Trip to S.E.A...

Posted by anothaussie on 4/3/2012 at 21:07

Hi all, I have read through many of the posts and undoubtedly as this post progresses i am going to ask some of the same questions others have, if not all of them but any help would be greatly appreciated. I live in Australia, 24yo and my girlfriend and I are planning to go back-packing through S.E.A. We have spent some time in Vietnam, Bali and Thailand over the last 2 years but not as backpackers. Long story short we have no planned period of time away we just want to go and see where the trip ...

11 week backpack trip June -Aug 2012

Posted by leah7728 on 14/2/2012 at 01:27

Hi! I am planning a 11 week trip to Southeast Asia starting in June. Im traveling with 2 other people. I have only backpacked Peru for a month, so I dont know how much is to much to try and fit in with such a large area. I was originally planning to hit Central America but have changed my mind, so I know nothing about what i should see! I have been doing research but it is very overwhelming. Could anyone give me a good starting point? What is worth seeing and what isn't? If you had 11 weeks ther ...

Help save me time!

Posted by Venture135 on 26/2/2012 at 20:17

Hi Travelfishers. Im trying to get an idea together of where to go and how long to allow for a trip to Thailand and Cambodia in July/Aug. This will be my third backpacking trip to SEA so I'm aware of the temperamental buses, needing to spend at least a few days in each place to soak it in etc etc. However our current list is looking a bit tight so what gets cut out? What I want to know is how do people rate Kanchanaburi and Sangkhlaburi? Is it worth making the trip out there? Basically our t ...

Another Itinerary Post

Posted by goody on 28/12/2011 at 15:36

I've been reading Travelfish and the forums for a while now and just wanted some advice on my route. I'm planning to travel around South East Asia for 13 weeks between April and July. The itinerary below is only rough but I don't want to tie myself down to being in a specific area at a specific time. I enjoy the cultural/historical nature of countries as well as scenery. I'm not too fussed about getting drunk every night but would like the occasional night out. Kuala Lumper- travel up the c ...

SE Asia Beaches

Posted by abbyheat on 26/2/2012 at 09:49

Hi everyone. I'm taking a trip to Southeast Asia this July and have a pretty good idea of where I'm going to be going. I'll be spending a large part of my time in cities, Jakarta, KL, HCMC etc. I'd also like to spend a bit of time, say 5-7 days, somewhere really nice, chilled and beachy. (preferably not Indonesia) If anyone has any personal recommendations of lovely beaches they've visited, I'd love to hear them. I'm thinking of either Thailand, Malaysia or Vietnam and am very open to sugges ...

What is your all time favourite S.E Asian destination and why?

Posted by KevandJho on 4/2/2012 at 00:49

We really like S.E Asia for it's affordibility, climate and for the way we are treated in general. So far we've only had samplings of the the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam and Cambodia. Next year we are thinking seriously of Laos, Mynmar, Southern China and perhaps North Vietnam. So far I like ... Philippines....awesome beaches, great coral for snorkling, beautiful lagoons and cliffs in Palawan. Thailand....beaches, food, motor biking the hills of Kophangan Mal ...

Traveling alone is SEA

Posted by sausage19 on 14/2/2012 at 15:06

I am planning on starting a 9 month long trip to Southeast Asia this September and I am a little worried about traveling alone as a 22 yr old female. Everyone back home is worried about my safety and even though I have read countless articles about how safe Southeast Asia is, I am still not convinced. I have never backpacked anywhere and was wondering if this was a safe/smart idea??? ...

Dearest globe trotters, Me and my boyfriend are planning a trip to S E Asia, for August/September 2012. We’re looking to have about 2-3 weeks there and have a budget (including transport!) of about £1,300 each. Wondering if anyone has had similar adventures, we would really like to take in some jungle, some tropical beach, some culture, history and general craziness! Has anyone done a similar mini-tour? Any routes people have taken, dont-forget-to-take, definitely-miss-outs or general must-se ...

30 Days Trip help for a Brazilian

Posted by matheusvdd on 28/8/2009 at 23:24

So guys, i'm from Fortaleza, Brazil and want to do a 30 days trip. My knowledge in southeast asia is close to zero, but, after quick researches, I've decided that starting in Bangkok is the ideal choice. And that's all I've decided yet! What I really want is to really LIVE the trip, not just bounce around the whole continent without having time to, as someone said in another thread, "smell the flowers". So I guess two countries would be the ideal thing for me. Thailand and Cambod ...

7 Weeks = Indochina and Thailand, or should we cut Vietnam out of the plan?

Posted by Banana17 on 27/11/2011 at 17:27

Hi everyone, Me and a friend will be doing a trip to SEA in May-June and we have 7 weeks. Now my question: Would you suggest visiting Thailand - Laos - Cambodia only for these 7 weeks, or also making a short trip to Vietnam to visit Hanoi , Ho Chi Minh City, and Ha Long Bay. We are on a tight budget and will not be traveling by plane. I am aware of the fact that going to Vietnam would include the so called "bus ride from hell" from Vientiane to Hanoi and the very long train rid ...
