Vietnam or Cambodia - 2 weeks, September

Posted by wanderingirish on 11/4/2012 at 14:02

Hi guys, I'm a new member hoping some seasoned SEA travellers will be able to help me out. My boyfriend and I are hoping to travel to SEA at the end of August/beginning of September. We've stretched our holidays to the max, but realistically will only have 17 days - to include travel from London. Initially we were hoping to 'see' Vietnam, but having looked at various itineraries on the forum, I think that's probably overambitious for such a short period. We've been discussing whether to curt ...

Which Countries first?

I'm planning on doing a solo back pack trip through south east Asia. At the moment I have no real time constraints, but I will be leaving around february/march next year, for probably 3-4 months. I want to travel through Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos, and possibly a little bit of time in Northern Thailand, and I will eventually fly out to Japan when I reach the end of my time this area. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on which country to start in..? ...

Hi all We're on a year trip and unfortunately our plans unavoidably have plonked us in Asia for 5 months during wet season, we land in Bangkok on 1st June and we head off to Australia on 3rd November from Singapore. I've been trying to figure out if there is a preferred route that we can lesser the affects of rain or whether we're buggered whatever we do, but the task is proving too much and i'm more confused than when i started, the ideal route would be N.Thailand > Laos > Vietnam > C ...

16 days to travel Southeast Asia- Itinerary HELP?

Posted by kelcatalina on 4/4/2012 at 15:57

Hi all- Just wanted to see if I could get some itinerary advice for a 2 week trip to Southeast Asia. My friend Jenn and I will be going at the end of July. We would like to fly into Bangkok (or some other beginning spot) and then head to Bali or one of the islands but want to do this trip without any air travel, just train/bus travel. From the forums that I have been reading, 2 weeks is not enough time to travel that long of a stretch and actually enjoy it, so am wondering if anybody has any s ...

Laos, Cambodia (+ Vietnam?)

Posted by melface on 17/3/2012 at 21:14

Hi there, I am traveling (on my first overseas trip!) to SE Asia with my boyfriend in April, and have just over 3 weeks to spend in the region. My plan has been to spend most of the time (about 2 weeks) in Laos (mainly around Luang Prabang), and approximately 1 week in Cambodia, to see - of course - Angkor Wat and the Killing Fields. I know that it isn't very much time, but I thought for a first overseas trip at the age of 24, that I should keep it short as I'm just getting my foot in the doo ...

Travelers Cheques?

Posted by Wanderluster on 31/3/2012 at 01:53

The last time I traveled to Southeast Asia was in 2009 and for the duration of my trip I used American Express Travelers Cheques. There were no real problems associated with cashing them and did so with relative ease. I am once again headed for the region (Thailand, Laos, Indonesia) and was wondering if there has been any change in regards to the prevalence of cashing locations and whether or not travelers cheques are still a good idea. I of course will be ordering some Baht beforehand, but w ...

Most tolerable overland travel?

Posted by minerman on 30/3/2012 at 14:00

I am planning on doing a mix of overland travel and flights on my upcoming trip. I'm trying to figure out which overland trips are more tolerable. There's a few trips that I am questioning and they all seem kind of bad. What parts should I skip with a flight? Bangkok to Siem Reap Pros: Most of the travel is in Thailand, should be nice. Cons: Khmers try to scam you at the border. Phnom Penh to Vientiene Pros: A lot of cool towns in between. Don Det looks cool. Cons: Lengthy trip and hassle ...

The Region Trip vs something like Intrepid Tour

Posted by biojack on 22/1/2012 at 05:07

This is a fantastic website! I have been learning so much in the last two days. I was wondering if anyone would be able to estimate the cost of and time needed to organize my own tour like the Intrepid Great Indochina Loop. I just recently became unemployed and I think this is a great opportunity to travel. If I go to SE Asia I might only be able to do a single trip and I'd like to see a few places in each countries on the loop. I decided to put my belonging in storage and I'd like to get on a ...

9 Week SE Asia Trip

Posted by realacefool on 19/3/2012 at 21:35

Hello, I am travelling to SE Asia for 9 weeks from early June to early August with one other person. Our preliminary plan is to start in Hanoi and work our way south till we reach Bali, passing through Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. After reading a few posts we are considering cutting out Vietnam or maybe just starting in Saigon and working our way from there. We are also considering cutting out Indonesia and saving that for another time, so that we can see ind ...

High vs Low Season

I'm just wondering if all SE Asian countries have the same high/low seasons? And do prices vary more on islands than in cities (i.e. more on Koh Samui than in Singapore?) We're going to be travelling around Asia for 3 1/2 months approx 1st March-1st June, so just trying to work out how much we should budget. Thanks! ...
