Motorbiking in SE Asia? Make sure you're covered.

Posted by DLuek on 7/7/2012 at 00:48

Hi all, Just read this awful story of a New Zealander who got roughed up real bad in a motorbiking accident in Phuket recently. He had travel insurance, but it didn't cover motorbiking. Definitely worth scouring that fine print to ensure your policy covers motorbiking. If you've got the means to help this poor guy there's a link to donate through the article linked to above. ...

3 weeks holiday with 9 months-old baby

Posted by martinamaya on 30/6/2012 at 05:05

Hi All, We're planning a 3 weeks holiday in August with our 9 months-old baby We would like to visit Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and Malaysia and fly back to Shanghai from Singapore. It's maybe too much! That's why we would appreciate some suggestions about what's really worth it to visit in each country. We are living in China and been travelling around here, we like visiting ancient and cultural places, markets and also have time to relax on the beach, possibly in Thailand (not too touristic / ...

SE Asia Itinerary Help!

Posted by erikjp on 4/7/2012 at 21:53

Hello, I am an exchange student going to Japan for a year and for the break in-between semesters I was planning on backpacking through Southeast Asia. I'm interested in a mixture of things, definitely historical religious sites, natural wonders (like Ha Long Bay), and yes, a bit of partying along the way. I'm the kind of traveler that likes to do and see things, not just arrive in a place and wander. I've written this itinerary and am looking for some feedback. Let me know if I've missed anything ...

Advice for 3 months backpacking around SE Asia

Posted by Manckiwi on 30/6/2012 at 21:51

My partner and I are currently living and working in Auckland, NZ but we're planning to move to the UK next July (where I'm originally from). So, as we'll both have to quit our jobs, we figured this would be the perfect opportunity to fit some travel in before settling down to work etc. We've managed to work out a budget of around $20k (NZD) and are planning on spending around 3 months from leaving NZ in April to arriving in the UK in July. Our current plan is: [li]10 days in Bali[/li][li]3 da ...

New to SE Asia and wanting to make the most of 10 weeks! Where's good?!

Posted by redphoebe on 19/6/2012 at 17:46

My friend and I are looking to travel SE Asia in our summer break next year. We have about ten weeks and potentially around £3000 - £4000 each to play with (this to include flights)... HELP! As two young girls travelling for the first time we would really like some recommendations of fairly safe places to visit where we can soak up the culture, feel like we're having an adventure and party along the way.. We have Thailand down as a must and would really like to visit Cambodia and Vietna ...

3 weeks in Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia

Posted by ross8 on 19/6/2012 at 06:12

Hey, my girlfriend and I are going backpacking in SE Asia from the 6th-29th of July. This is our first time backpacking in SE Asia so looking for some guidance. My thoughts are: Laos - 1 week Cambodia - ~3 days Thai islands - 1 week and the remaining 5 days in Thailand and traveling (at least 2 or 3 days in Bankok if its worth it?). but this is still very flexible. We would probably only be going to Siem Reap in Cambodia, I'd love to see it but is it worth the extra travelling time? We both l ...

6 week itinerary

Posted by randb20 on 4/6/2012 at 16:35

Hi all just graduated college and have 45 days to explore SE Asia before my job starts. I've been lurking on this web site a lot and finally wanted to post my rough itinerary for Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, and Cambodia and see what everyone here thinks. I have minimal cities I have to hit because everything I've read said to plan little for potential disruptions and if you constantly are traveling you won't soak in as much culture. Thanks so much in advance!! MUST- Bangkok > Chiang Mai > ...

However we are now stuck. We would like to go to either Cambodia or Vietnam but not sure if and how this is possible in the time scale and if so which would be easier to do? Cambodia or Vietnam? Any advice appreciated as I have been researching this for ages now and cant seem to decide. ...

5 weeks in Thailand, Laos and Cambodia. Any thoughts on this itninerary?

Posted by kolibri1 on 10/6/2012 at 15:35

Hey y'all. I'm heading to SEA in early Nov till mid Dec. I plan on traveling by bus or train except for the the leg between Vientiane to Phnom Penh where I plan to fly with Lao Airlines. And I'd like to take the slow boat down Mekong to Luang Prabang . I would like to know if 5 weeks are sufficient to see the following: Thailand (8 nights) Bangkok (2), Ayutthaya (1), Sukhothai (1), Chiang Mai (2), Chiang Rai (2) Laos (9 nights) Houay Xai (1), Pakbeng (1), Luang Prabang (4), ...

Completely overwhelmed with planning!!!

Posted by Lorimar on 5/6/2012 at 22:21

We are a middle-aged fit couple going to SEA for 3 weeks in July (Rain!!). Don't like tours (except for maybe a half-day here or there for educational purposes), prefer to do our own thing. We are travelling from Montreal, Canada and don't know when we'll get to that part of the world again, so we are trying to squeeze in whatever we can without burning ourselves out - but the planning seems so complicated. Flights are booked (Bangkok), vaccinations done, visas prepared, guide books purchased ...

Itinerary from Southern Thailand onwards

Posted by georgiaj on 8/6/2012 at 04:38

I know this is a slightly unusual route, but I can't change it now. I'm starting off with a group from Bangkok at the end of July and heading down to Ko Phangan for the August 4th Full Moon Party. I'd probably want to see a few other islands in the Thai Gulf (it's going to be August so I guess visiting the other coast would be silly with the weather) Maybe Ko Samui and Ko Tao. I want to visit Sihanoukville, Phnom Penh and Angkor Wat in Cambodia, and Vang Vieng and Vientiane/perhaps Luan ...

I am flying tomorrow to Makasser and from there have a fairly busy flight plan through the rest of south east asia that looks like this Makasser > Kuala Lumpur > Ranggon > Kuala Lumpur > Overland Singapore > Bali > Singapore > Philippines > Singapore > Mumbai > London The only requirements are that I am in Bali in mid August to visit some friends and Mumbai by the start of November as that is my flight home. If anyone has any ideas on how to do this differently/ ...

Hi everyone, I'm travelling to Hanoi where I might buy a motorbike and hang around Hanoi and Halong Bay for a week, I need to then get to either to Vientiane or Phnom Penh both of which I've allowed a week before heading across into Thailand. Question is the best way to do it? Am I best to avoid a buying a bike and go by public transport and hire bikes when I reach these destinations or can I transport my bike on the train? What's the best route to travel given my time constraints, Vie ...
