Some general advice for 1-2 week trip

Posted by galois on 29/4/2012 at 09:00

Found this website a few days ago, what a great resource! So, I'll be in Hong Kong for a conference in December and I'm planning to spend 10-15 days traveling around SE asia afterward, on my own. I'm interested in seeing "authentic" places which have not (yet) been completely overrun by tourism. I'm not especially interested in beaches, unless the scenery is stunning. I'm into hiking/cycling. I don't mind roughing it out a bit but would prefer a minimal level of comfort. Given I don' ...

SEA virgins - 5week trip

Posted by overtherainbow on 27/4/2012 at 17:29

Hi, I've been browsing for some time and getting great tips but my husband & I are starting to settle on a trip and wanted to get your wise opinions on it. We're caught for time so are well aware that we'll be rushing much of it, which is probably not recommended but c'est la vie! We're interested in the historical aspects of the countries as well as the highlights and a bit of fun! We fly into & out of BKK so trying to do a loop from there involving Cambodia ( Siem Reap & Phnom ...

Hello, me and my friend are planning on travelling SEA for six weeks but as we backback for the first time in Asia, we are not sure how much time we need for everything and which places are a must see. We will land in Bangkok beginning of June and thought about staying there one night and day and then travel up to Chiang Mai with the night train. Stay there 3 days to do some excursions and move on to Chiang Rai for two more days. Then over the Mekong with the Slowboat to Luang Prapang. We ...

Vietnam visa in Bangkok

Posted by ekumbier on 14/4/2012 at 22:47

Hi, My friends and I are traveling in Southeast Asia right now and need to get our Vietnam visas. We plan to be in Vietnam for less than 30 days. I was thinking we could do this in Bangkok, but then we might need a 60 or 90 day visa. We could also do it in Vientiane or Phnom Penh, but didn't plan on spending a lot of time in those cities. Also, is there any way not to waste a day at the embassy? Is there a reputable travel agency in Bangkok that could handle it? Thanks, Eric ...

Itinery advice for 'less-orthodox' 6 week BKK - BKK round trip in Aug/Sept

Posted by jonq1987 on 12/4/2012 at 06:35

Hello fellow users of Travelfish, I've booked flights to and from Bangkok for a 6 week trip (43 full days) in August and September, and I would greatly appreciate any advice from those who have visited the region before. As said, this will be my first solo trip to Asia (I am a 25 year old male indepentantly-minded traveller with plenty of experience travelling solo in different corners of Europe) and while I am ok with hitting some of the touristy spots (of course they became so for a reason) ...

Vietnam or Cambodia - 2 weeks, September

Posted by wanderingirish on 11/4/2012 at 14:02

Hi guys, I'm a new member hoping some seasoned SEA travellers will be able to help me out. My boyfriend and I are hoping to travel to SEA at the end of August/beginning of September. We've stretched our holidays to the max, but realistically will only have 17 days - to include travel from London. Initially we were hoping to 'see' Vietnam, but having looked at various itineraries on the forum, I think that's probably overambitious for such a short period. We've been discussing whether to curt ...

I'm planning on doing a solo back pack trip through south east Asia. At the moment I have no real time constraints, but I will be leaving around february/march next year, for probably 3-4 months. I want to travel through Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos, and possibly a little bit of time in Northern Thailand, and I will eventually fly out to Japan when I reach the end of my time this area. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on which country to start in..? ...
