2 weeks in Thailand, Malaysia and Cambodia?

Posted by Annanas28 on 10/10/2011 at 09:45

My boyfriend and I just booked tickets in and out of Bangkok for two weeks in late August. We are thinking of starting in Bangkok, then somehow seeing KL, Terengganu n Malaysia (my boyfriend lived there for a year) then going to Angkor Wat, and ending the trip with a few days on a beach around Cambodia/Thailand before heading back. Does anyone have recommendations on whether this is a good itinerary for the time of year, e.g. will we get hit by monsoons, is it easy to get around, are there any ...

We flew into Bangkok, stayed 2 days and headed south to Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao. We had planned on heading north up to Chiang Mai completely unaware of the floods. Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia and back to Thailand - Good Plan?

Posted by PeterJW on 25/9/2011 at 05:20

Hi I'm planning to fly to Bangkok around 14th Jan 2012 from the UK. I’ll have a 30 day visa so think I’ll head south to Bang Lamung and Sattahip for a week at the most to experience some beach time before heading north for another 3 weeks getting to and around Chiang Mai and then heading into Laos for around 14th Feb. I think a 30 day Laos visa is $30? I then want to spend the next 30 days in Laos and then heading to Vietnam(crossing from the north end) around 13 – 14th March. The pr ...

Vaccines and malaria in ubud, hanoi, tanah rata...

Posted by lindistar on 25/9/2011 at 17:45

Hi, We will be travelling to Singapore, KL, Tanah Rata, Hanoi (also visiting tam cok) and Ubud(including the bali on bike tour) in January. I wondered if we need malaria tablets for any of these places. My relatives in Singapore says we don't, and my parents(singaporean mum and dad lived and worked many years in SE asia) say we don't, but I want to double check! Do people who live there build up a resistance?? I was born in Singapore and have been around Indonesia and Malaysia as a child with n ...

Getting Around - Thailand to KL, Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia

Posted by csawala on 22/9/2011 at 11:10

I am in Chiang Mai, soon to head down near Phuket for some diving. Currently, my plan is to dive a bit, then take the train/bus (overland) to KL, Singapore, and then fly from there either (1) back to Thailand for more diving or (2) into Indonesia/Malaysia to dive. I WILL eventually make it towards Bali and whatnot, but I have no set time plan. My question is, what is the best way to go about traveling to Indo/Mala from the mainland? Other than flights, what options do I have? How much shoul ...

What's the best beer in southeast Asia?

Posted by exacto on 13/4/2006 at 08:38

Hey gang, Any suds lovers out there? I'm a big fan myself, and wonder what people think is the best beer between Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. (Somtam, how is the Bintang in Indonesia these days?) When I first started backpacking around Thailand, you had your choice of Singha. One couldn't easily get a tourist visa to Laos in those days, and Cambodia was still in the middle of a civil war. Then things started looking up when Kloster hit the market in Thailand. I'm partial to ...

Intra-asian Air Tickets

Posted by stevewangh on 11/9/2011 at 08:19

Will be traveling in Southeast Asia December - March. We would like to buy our round-trip ticket and then stay flexible with our travel to the Philippines, Malaysia, China, Myanmar and Thailand. After some research it seemed to us we would do as well buying our intra-Asia short haul tickets on the spot as we make up our mind--as opposed to getting an Asia Air pass or Circle Pass ticket. When we priced this option on line, it seemed cheaper to book as you go, and gives us more flexibility. Ou ...

where to buy a notebook in SEasia?

Posted by joe_leviente on 11/9/2011 at 11:48

hi guys, I'm about 3 weeks into a 6 month trip around south east asia, before heading off to Oz on a working holiday visa. I've noticed a lot of people have notebooks out here, but the majority of people i've spoken to brought them from home. I've been considering getting one while i'm out here before going to australia. I reckon because of how long i'll be there and the fact that i'll probably be spending more time in any given place than out here, it could come in handy - especially in looki ...

Route help & having to book outward flights in advance

Posted by smellmycoffee on 5/9/2011 at 01:56

Some background first - Planning a four month(ish) trip around SE Asia with my boyfriend for 2013 (does this seem really early to be planning? I feel I need to get everything sorted now to be able to know how much money we need!) I'm having some trouble deciding on the best route to take, I keep thinking I've almost got it, but then it turns out there are no direct flights between certain places or the flight is costing £200 so I have to scrap it and take a different way! I'm finding it especi ...

Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos - Order of Travel

Posted by lizzie501 on 30/8/2011 at 19:13

Hi all I'm heading to Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos for December and January. Any advice on which order to do things? The travelfish itinerary goes south through Laos and Cambodia, then north up the coast of Vietnam. Any reason why we should do it this way rather than work down through Vietnam and up through Cambodia finishing in Laos? We'll be flying from the UK to Asia and out to Brisbane afterwards so have flexibility in what airport we fly to and from. ...

ATM limits

Posted by chicoelnino on 8/1/2011 at 23:00

Will be heading to SE Asia in june for 6 months of travel, and will be visiting Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia and Indonesia. I will be putting all my money onto a visa card for the trip and using that to withdraw money each week to last both myself and my g.f for the week. Can someone please tell me are there any restrictions on the amount you can withdraw in one transaction in ATM's over there? Basically I plan on withdrawing the equivalent of €500 at the start of every week to last us ...

SEA in April - HELP please

Posted by Slowtrotter on 22/8/2011 at 18:09

Hi, guys! Next year I have month's long vacation (a big deal for me) and would be happy to build some weather- and itinerary- reasonable plan , if it possible at all this time of the year. It would be convenient to spend a week in Thailand on the beach , but I would like to see something else, too: another country(ies), another nature, temples etc., even if it is on the beaten track - good enough for first timer. So - some places in Laos? Cambodia? Burma? Vietnam? I feel really lost (mostly beca ...

Union Pay ATM card in SE Asia?

Posted by kjkiwi on 24/7/2011 at 06:11

I am currently living and working in China, and I'll be heading off on a four-month trip around Laos, Vietnam, Nepal and India soon. I have a Bank of China ATM card that I can't use outside China, but I've heard that Union Pay is accepted in other countries. Can anyone tell me if they have used a Union Pay card in Laos, Vietnam, Nepal or India? I will be travelling to these countries in a couple of months and I need to know if I can access my funds... If not, can anyone suggest the best way I c ...
