3 month route through Thailand/Vietnam/Cambodia/Laos - constructive criticism wanted!

Posted by kmc on 30/5/2011 at 17:08

Hi all, My wife and I are fortunate enough to have nabbed 3 months off our respective jobs from the end of September this year through to Christmas which we're going to spend going through Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam. Having read most of travelfish, sketched out a route on a map and tried to avoid retracing our steps as much as possible, I think we're getting close to something sensible. Would appreciate any comments - at the moment I think we'll aim to spend about 1 month in each of ...

Feedback on proposed intinerary: Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia

Posted by morgiane on 28/7/2011 at 02:42

Hi all, Was interested in feedback on our proposed itinerary for Laos, Cambodia & Vietnam. What do you guys think? Any "must-sees" missing? Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia (67 days) - we generally like to travel in the slower side, preferring on spend at least 3 days in the majority of places, and longer in major cities/sites (though there will certainly be exceptions) - most into nature & food, followed by culture/history. not big on "party places" - tried to structure ...

One month in one place, where would you go?

Posted by katielane18 on 26/7/2011 at 15:13

I am starting a job in Thailand and I have to be there on the 17th of September. I am going to be running really low on money by then so I am thinking that I will just go somewhere and plant for a month or so. It doesn't have to be in Thailand but should be in SE Asia. Where would you guys go? Here is a short list of things I am looking for but none are requirements, just ideals. 1) Beach 2) Cheap (lodging, food, beer) 3) Has things to do (either activities or sights) and a fair amount of people ...

0ne month in Cambodia/Thailand/Laos

Posted by kateyb on 23/7/2011 at 05:11

I am planning a trip for March 2012 and I was wondering if any of you think that this itinerary is doable. For starters I am not into the party scene and I am mainly interested in the cultural/historical side of travel. I am not a beach person. I have never been to Asia before. I will be flying on points, so I am flying in/out of Bangkok as that is the only option. 2 nights Bangkok 4 nights Chang Mai 1 night on either side of Thailand/Laos border-what side do you suggest? Mekong River trip-1 ni ...

First-time backpackers, planning on spending 18months in SE Asia... Crazy?

Posted by swampgum on 11/7/2011 at 18:14

Firstly, I have to take the chance to say what an incredible site this is, and how genuinely helpful the articles and advice here have been in convincing us to do this trip! So we are a 23 & 26y.o couple, neither have travelled overseas before and we definitely feel like it's time for our first adventure together. We will be flying in from Australia to KL late April 2012 and plan on backpacking for around 18 months. We've done a solid amount of research and basically want to do an entire l ...

I will be traveling to SE Asia (Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam) with my wife and three children (ages 14, 11, and 9) next year, and I have a question about hotels. Will I have trouble putting 5 people in a room? Will I need to get 2 rooms? Or do only adults count, and so I should look for double rooms and then get cots or something? We will be spending time in both big cities and small villages. Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated. ...

I then want to go to Kanchanaburi, it looks amazing, I want to do a trip with Mellow Trek, amazing reports on Trip Advisor, but I either do it on my own or find a few other people that would like to give it a go, as they will only take one group at a time, and don't mix. Have a look at there website, I want to do the 3 day 2 night. If anyone else fancies please let me know, or if you fa ...

3 Months In Southeast Asia

Posted by cn2011 on 1/7/2011 at 21:09

Me and a friend are planning a 3 month trip to SE Asia next summer, June- September. We had high hopes of getting quite a few places in there: Thailand Vietnam Cambodia Malaysia Indonesia However I am now conscious of the practicality of getting it all in. There are places I have been before and therefore only want a short stay so as to maximise the length of time we have in other places. (KL, HK, Singapore, Bangkok) We are flying to Bangkok, so will be starting our travels from there, and o ...

Trecking footwear

Posted by mikeyspread on 1/7/2011 at 16:55

Hey I am heading back to Se Asia in a few weeks and am planning on spending a couple of weeks in Malaysian Borneo. I would like some advice on the footwear to take for rainforest trecking and possibly Kinabalu. I have survived trecking around Thailand in a set of pretty sturdy trainers in the past, but think somthing more substantial may be in order for Borneo. Obviously due to the size of my pack i don't want to take walking boots, but would a set of running trainers or trail shoes do the jo ...
