Well worth a visit rather than passing over or round as most do! Alcohol is available but in most places very hard to find except in Lakey and other surfing hangouts. You will need the help of a local to sniff it out unless you can find a Chinese restaurant that sells it People very friendly through out the island. Travel surprising easy and the ordinary longer distance local bus from Bima to Sumbawa Besar was comfortable, not crowded and reasonably fast although the shorter services older and ...

Flores travel and maumere and bajawa budget hotels

Posted by amnicoll on 2/9/2015 at 07:20

A quick update on the excellent TF guide to Flores on this site Travel around by either ordinary Gunung Mas bus (rather than the ordinary local buses or their executive bus) excellent and very easy and priced between local bus and the share taxi. The share taxis are also excellent and very good value and only marginally more expensive than the Gunung Mas and unlike anywhere else I have used share taxis they do not wait until full. They will usually quote a departure time and with perhaps a wa ...

Lombok Plans

Posted by batfastard on 25/8/2015 at 02:20

I'm starting to plan out my end of year holiday, and I'm thinking of taking the wife to Lombok for two weeks, in mid January 2016. So, what are the best recommendations and suggestions? We're after relaxation, exploration, bit of culture. Not into surfing or barhopping. Where to stay? What to see? What to do? Thanks ...

Visa problems!

Posted by aimeebills4 on 27/8/2015 at 21:18

Hi there, Just thought I'd make people aware of the visa problems I faced when I arrived in Lombok from Malaysia... We arrived in Lombok at around 9pm (last arrival of the day), where anyone of Western appearance was sent to a seperate window to pay for a visa. Despite knowing full well we didn't have to pay (my friend arrived on an afternoon flight 4 days earlier and didn't have to) we were forced to pay £25 each for a visa. When we refused the staff said we wouldn't be allowed to enter ...

Advice on 1 month in Indonesia December- January

Posted by somra958 on 9/8/2015 at 22:41

Hi everyone, I'm planning to head to Indonesia for a month from the 19th- ish of Dec - 15th ish of January with a friend and finding it overwhelming to plan where to include in my trip. We're happy to go with the flow but given we only have a month it would be good to have a rough itinerary sketched and any key bookings made ( e.g. will it be hard to find accommodation in Bali at NYE?) I would really appreciate any advice anyone has! My initial thoughts are headin ...

Ubud - Sideman - Amed and then what? Advice needed

Posted by ElectricLion on 22/8/2015 at 05:35

Hello, I am going to Bali with my girlfriend between 16th and 29th of September. After reading suggested itinerary for 2 weeks in Bali here at travelfish I decided on the first leg of the trip at least. I want to start from Ubud, Sideman, Amed and do some spa, hiking and snorkeling/diving. This will probably take me about a week and I am not sure how to proceed with a second week. From Amed I have a lot of options and initially I wanted to follow the itinerary and go to Lovina (not a big f ...

Balian surfboard rental

Posted by boringtime on 25/8/2015 at 03:27

Has anyone been to Balian recently? I'm planning to stay there for the better part of a week starting this coming Saturday, and I'm having a bit of a hard time figuring out from online research what might be available to rent in terms of surfboards. I've seen a few write-ups that mention they're available but nothing in detail. I'm hoping to get a longboard or maybe a mini-Malibu, and to avoid the soft-top learner boards. Anybody know if that will be available? Or would I be better off renting ...

Bank Statements for Visa Application

Posted by mooball on 17/8/2015 at 22:02

Has anyone had any experience with having to provide bank statements when applying for a 60 day tourist visa? I've never had to provide them before, but this time I've read that the requirements are AU$600/week... which roughly equates to 50,000,000 rupiah per person for a 2 month stay in Indonesia. Not sure why they'd require that, but here is the reference. I've also seen similar references with different ...

New visa on arrival rules

Posted by Sniksah on 15/8/2015 at 10:33

Im traveling to Indonesia later this month, into Bali from the U.S. I am aware of the new visa rules in affect since June 2015. I will be in Bali for a week then boat to Gili Air, then boat to Lombok. A week later, I will fly from Lombok to Bali for 1 more night before returning home. I was just curious if my travel plans required a visa on arrival due to me leaving Bali and returning a week later via a flight, before flying home. Does anyone know if this itinerary requires me to obtain a visa o ...

Alternative Lombok destination?

Posted by stevesayskanpai on 13/8/2015 at 07:29

Hi all, We are currently in Sidemen on Bali, and our original plan was to spend four nights on Gili Air, two nights getting to and climbing Rinjani, and four nights in Kuta Lombok, traveling to nearby beaches. However we are having a bit of a change of heart re climbing Rinjani, and think it might be a bit too much for us. My questions are: 1. Have you climbed Rinjani to the crater rim, how hard was it and did you consider it 'worth it'? 2. How do the beaches in and north of Sengigi, Gili ...

Kanawa Island Resort and Diving

Posted by elizabethwoodru on 10/8/2015 at 08:20

Hi! I am traveling to Indonesia in October and was really excited about going to Kanawa Island Resort for several nights to do some diving, snorkeling and to visit Komodo National Park. I have recently read some very negative reviews about the resort - mainly about the bungalows and restaurant (which you much use). I have also read that the dive shop has left. It seems that the Resort (not the dive shop) is under new management, to the serious detriment of the facilities. Does anyone know ...

Gili islands: Watch out for cash lifters + sleep advice + the horseys seem AOK

Posted by GGG on 30/6/2015 at 08:22

When buying stuff on your way to or from the Gili Islands and especially when changing money on G. Trawangan , never let "them" (randoms milling about or the change people themselves or whoever else) see where you keep your cash. Or else it will magically disappear. I've gotten ripped off that way twice (and you can imagine I became warier after the first occurrence). They're very very good. They were able to dig up a specific folded envelope from the bottom of a zipper pocket filled w ...

I worryWe go to SEA from September 10 to march 2016 for the first time. I am overwhelmed by the possibilities. So far we know this: we start with Indonesia, 45 days, starting with 3 weeks in Ubud, bali, then gilli islands? End of October back to Bangkok for a few days. November is not settled yet but at some points we have to go out of Thailand since starting December 1 we will stay 5 weeks in Bang Saphan and the visa is for 60 days. Starting January 7 we are free and February 3 we have to be i ...

Can someone recommend a meditation/yoga/relax retreat in Bali?

Posted by tyler on 27/7/2015 at 01:19

I'm going to be in Bali for about 2 weeks for a bit of a break before beginning work in New Zealand. I'm planning to be there for the last week of August and first week of September. Not looking to break the bank but depending on the place and services offered - I'll consider anything. Looking to stay for approximately 3-7 days. I'm hoping someone has been to one recently and had a wonderful experience or knows of a place with a great reputation and can give a guy a heads up. I'm open to any typ ...

Overstaying in Indonesia

Posted by LexHeller on 31/7/2015 at 23:01

Hi all, I can't seem te find a good answer about overstaying in Indonesia with the new rules (I think from july 2015) in place. Me and my girlfriend (dutch) came to Indonesia and bought a Visa on Arrival for 35 dollars. We were planning on extending our visa because we plannend on staying here for 35 days. As things go we totally forgot to extend our visa in time (7 days prior to departure). We read that there is a fine to pay for each that you overstay. The fine is not really a big concern go ...
