Suggestions for Bali in mid-Feb

Posted by zevida on 24/1/2018 at 00:53

I've been to Bali before - Ubud and Seminyak - and will be traveling with a first timer. We have four nights. I like to stay on the beach, and prefer a calm beach good for swimming. We are not into the party scene. Originally I was thinking Nusa Dua but while I want luxury I want more local flavor luxury not Western manicured luxury. Now I'm thinking Sanur, but worried about trash on the beach and in the water - will resort areas have kept this clean, or am I just out of luck at this time ...

Need itinerary help-18 days Indonesia

Posted by Scoutlarue on 20/1/2018 at 12:19

Two travelers - 32 and 64. Both want to visit Borneo to see wild life. Neither have been to Indonesia but have traveled to China, Thailand, Japan etc. One is a surfer and the other is a lapsed scuba diver. One is very fit and the other not so much. Indonesia is overwhelming with so much to see and do. We understand traveling between areas can be slow and do not want to over plan an intinerary with too many destinations that we end up exhausted or unable to visit places once planned. Planning f ...

alternative to fast boats in Indonesia

I've been reading about the safety issues with fast boats in Indonesia, specifically from Bali to the Gilis. I'm a nervous boat traveller. Is there an alternative to the fast boats? ...

Secret Gilis

Posted by u2tool on 8/12/2017 at 19:54

Stuart's got me intrigued by Gili Layar and the surrounding Gilis. Looking to snorkel, explore, beach. Two adults and 9-year old, A couple of questions about that. I was thinking of basing myself in Sekotong while on mainland, Krishna looks like a good spot. Any other ideas that might be better? I'd like to hit Asahan, Layar, Ringit, maybe Gede. Good to do out of Sekotong, or some place closer? I'd also like to stay on one - Asahan or Layar. Layar has one bungalow set up I think, and Asahan ...

Agung volcano on Bali primed for eruption

Posted by somtam2000 on 24/9/2017 at 18:00

For the last couple of days Gunung Agung, the tallest volcano on Bali has been primed for eruption. While the smart money is on it eventually erupting, it hasn't yet, and, for the vast majority of the island, life goes on 100% as usual. Notable exceptions (of interest to casual visitors) include Tulamben (the diving centre on the north coast) which is pretty much totally evacuated—when the volcano last erupted, the lava flow headed north. Some places, though not all, in Amed have also cl ...

Bali beach destination on arrival

Posted by u2tool on 27/11/2017 at 14:40

We (wife, 9-year old daughter, and I) get into Bali late May, and I'm planning 3 nights before we head off for Java and Sumatra (we return to Bali later). I'd like to book something for those nights near the beach (beach view would be great), that's relaxing and also allows for some exploration. I initially thought Bukit, around Padang Padang (looked at Greenbowl homestay and Kutuh Manak). But maybe some other location makes more sense? Looked at Canuggu (Bali ExoticA looks great). Any sug ...

How to get from Jakarta to Bali without flying?

Posted by gingersmith869 on 14/9/2011 at 12:20

Hi guys! I was wondering if anybody could help me get from Jakarta to Bali? I have 12 days and now realise this isn't very long at all, and that ferries can be quite unpredictable and not travel every day. Is there a website or any other resource someone could recommend? I can't find answers on here in relation to travelling between the two. I have no idea how much it would cost via ferry either? We'd rather not fly, although if there is little difference in the cost, it would be something we ...

Surf lessons for beginners

Posted by u2tool on 21/11/2017 at 16:59

Loved Stuart's review of OBB Surf, but their website seems to have disappeared. Anybody have recommendations on a good surfing school or instructor - for wife, myself and 9-year old daughter. We're going to move around the island so it can be Kuta area or elsewhere. Sandy bottom highly appreciated! ...

Bali itinerary - 16 days between different places

Posted by pisike08 on 24/11/2017 at 14:45

Hi guys & girls, please suggest how would you divide your 16 days/nights trip in Bali between different locations? And why? I will go in the end of Feb beginning of March, so it will be rainy season. I have thought I'd start with 3 nights in Seminyak, then 5 in Ubud , 4 Gili (Air probably) and 4 in Sanur . But I have started to doubt. Maybe I should do Gili before Ubud? Gili is meant for full relaxation. After long trip it might be useful to take time out before starting trippi ...

Tenggara or Sulawesi & surrounds?

Posted by SocialTom on 17/11/2017 at 17:17

I'm doing a little bit of solo traveling next year and I'm hitting up Indonesia for about a month. I'm familiar with Bali and surrounds so was wanting check out some new places. After doing some preliminary research I've narrowed it down to a couple of options (I think)... 1) Hit up Tenggara....Flores, Komodo, Sumbawa etc. Or; 2) Check out some of the more remote islands in and around Sulawesi... Togian, Bunaken, Wakatobi and maybe nip out to Derwan (and any others worth a visit). I understand ...

Learning Indonesian

Posted by flijten on 19/4/2017 at 02:33

Since I like learning new languages and I am going to be spending at least 13 weeks in Indonesia this summer I've started learning at least the basics of the Indonesian language. So far I love how they removed a lot of the irregular grammar and useless extra verbs learning a lot of words is now half the job. I use babbel (payed) which works pretty good for me. My questions: Have you learned Indonesian? Up to what level? Did you need it? Where? How do Indonesians respond to a westerner grasping ...

Driving in Sumatra

Posted by u2tool on 12/10/2017 at 23:44

We are thinking of renting a car short term at two stops on our trip. We'd like to rent one in Medan, to visit Lake Toba, Bukit Lawang, Berastagi, over a few days. We're also thinking of renting a car out of Padang to visit HarauValley, Bukittinggi. We'd like to have a little autonomy for part of the trip, but no long haul driving. I've driven all over Thailand (and Portugal which is even crazier). I'd like to hear from any that have done it, how navigable the roads are, the pros and cons. Th ...

Getting Indonesian visa in Penang

Posted by lcybul789 on 19/4/2016 at 01:36

Hey y'all! Super easy and fast visa process in Penang , Malaysia for a 60-day single-entry Indonesian tourist visa for Indonesia. 60-day single-entry Indonesian visa process in Penang. I stayed at a clean, affordable hostel in Georgetown (Couzi Couji) and took the 101 bus from the (Jedi/Jetti?) ferry / bus terminal. Maybe about a 30-40 minute bus ride. Get off at Gurney Drive on the corner of Jalan Pemenang and Jalan Kelawai. If you're going in the direction of the bus and looking at Jalan P ...

New Visa Rules for Indonesia (60 days) ?

Posted by misscherie on 12/3/2010 at 00:38

Hi there, I am hoping to spend 6 weeks in Indonesia in September and just read that there has been a sudden visa change for Indonesia "(2/1/2010) In a dramatic change to the current immigration rules, starting on January 26, 2010, foreign tourists from countries eligible for "visa-on-arrival" will now be given a 30 day visa that can be renewed for an additional 30 days." My question is, does anyone know how exactly this works? When you arrive in Indonesia, do you automatically get the ...

Posted by hamada on 16/8/2017 at 23:58

Hi, I'm currently working and living in Singapore and I will be going on a business trip to Jakarta for a week and would like to extend my stay for another 4-5 days. I will be travelling with my wife and 2yrs daughter. I'm looking for more than a lay on the beach holiday- we are doing this next week in Lang Tengah Malaysia- so any suggestions on where should we go or what to do a part from Jakarta? My ultimate plan is to visit a different neighboring country for 4-5 days every month before ...

Best places in Indonesia to visit in February/March

Posted by Lealeabee on 19/8/2017 at 15:44

Hi There, As part of a 6 month trip around SE Asia and Sri Lanka my boyfriend and I have got 4 weeks in Indonesia between mid-Feb and mid-March. We fly into Bali and out of Jakarta (although that could be changed) and I just can't work out the best places to go to to make the most of that time and the weather. I know it won't be consistently rainy everywhere all the time but do want to make the most of our time. I think with 4 weeks we probably want to focus on 2 or 3 islands max but just ...

Instead, we just finished a summit climb with VisitTambora and the quality and professionalism of the outfitter is first class and warranted this submission.
