Cycle Trip Plans

Posted by bboti on 27/7/2017 at 01:11

Hi, Next year, I am planning to do a few days cycle trip in Indonesia. This is the plan (or something similar). If there are any bikers here, I would like to ask their opinions about it (at this point I am doing only the research, no specific questions). Is it doable? Should we avoid certain parts of the road? Are there places we should not miss? We have mountain bikes and sleeping mostly in tent. Many thanks, Botond ...

Getting around Bali/ Car Rentals

Posted by TanyaAllen2017 on 18/5/2017 at 16:54

Hi, I've been planning a trip for my husband and myself for Bali. We are spending 2 weeks and would like to see several different areas. However, I am not sure what to plan because I'm not sure how we would be getting around. Can you rent a car with a U.S. driver's license or a scooter with a U.S. motorcycle license, we don't have one of those but my husband has had one before and he could get another if needed. We would like to start in Ubud go to Sideman to Amed and back to one of the sou ...

Padang Bai departure tax...

Posted by somtam2000 on 10/7/2017 at 23:47

Panorama reports that an "entrance fee" is now being charged to all tourists departing Bali from Padang Bai harbour. The fee is 60,000 rupiah per tourist if heading to the Gilis and 50,000 rupiah if heading to Nusa Lembongan or Penida. It is not clear if this is all tourists or just foreign ones—we assume the latter. No explanation was given regarding what the fee was for. Seems pretty stupid. You can read the full story here. ...

Snorkelling trip w/ Grandfather

Posted by TheUnionJack on 19/7/2017 at 03:09

Hi there, My family and I are looking to go away for a week with our 80 year-old grandfather. We are looking for somewhere not heavily touristed, but also not super deserted where we could go snorkelling. We wouldn't want to stay anywhere on Java (too crowded), and hope to stay in a reasonably cheap area with lots of things to do for a family. Also not too long of a journey to get there, and hoping to stay in an area with less emphasis on activities such as hiking or camping (too taxing for our ...

International Driving Permit Indonesia

Posted by Ian15 on 9/7/2017 at 10:58

Hi, I'm going travelling in Indonesia (Bali and Lombok) in September and was wondering what the situation is regarding International Driving Permits. I have read contradicting advice on the validity of the IDP in Indonesia. Does anyone have any experience of this and know if it is valid in Indonesia. I don't want to waste my time and money getting one if it is not valid. cheers Ian ...

10 Days in Bali- The Western side?

Posted by Chaia09 on 25/5/2017 at 16:48

Hello! My husband and I will be in Bali for a wedding this October. We'll be in Kuta for the ceremony but have about 10 days afterwards to get out of the city and see some more of the island. After some research, we've decided to focus on the Western side and I've seen less information about this part of the island vs the East side. We're both active and outdoors-y and love snorkeling, hiking, biking, visiting cultural sites, and laying on the beach reading a book. This is our tentative plan: - ...

Thanks to a cracked rib, I'm just back yesterday from a trip to this area of Indonesia and while I'll have the detailed write up for all this online in a few days (probably by the end of the week), here is the quick and dirty summary on the slim chance someone is heading there tomorrow! My routing was: Flew Bali -> Kupang -> Alor to get there Stayed in Kalabahi four days at Cantik Homestay Moved to Kepa Island where I stayed three more days at L'a Petite Kepa Because I missed the ferry t ...

Suggestions for a 3-week Kalimantan trip

Posted by emeve on 20/5/2017 at 09:23

Hi, my bf and I are planning to visit Kalimantan for 3 weeks in Oct-Nov. The main reason to go there is to see some wildlife, local culture and enjoy some beautiful beaches. Because we've limited time and will be traveling from Europe we don't want to spend the majority of our time traveling from one location to the other, so ideally visit 3-4 locations. I've been doing research and can't decide if visiting Tanjung Puting National Park or Kutai National Park. Tanjung Puting seems much easier to ...

Sponsors for a long term visa

Posted by Digitarius on 8/6/2017 at 19:11

Does anyone have any solid information on obtaining a sponsor for a long term visa? I have been to the immigration office in Jakarta and the Indonesian consulate in Los Angeles and both basically said you have to find a sponsor who is Indonesian and have them write letter for approval to the immigration office in Jakarta. I have no idea where to begin or how to get one. I a guessing I will have to make friends and ask. Any real information which could help would be much appreciated. Thank ...

Buying games in Indonesia (SkipBo)

Posted by flijten on 8/6/2017 at 06:09

Our SkipBo game has seen more countries than fit on toes and fingers but since I'm a total idiot I forgot to take it to Indonesia. The next tree months will be devoid of the game unless someone knows where to find this. So far I tried a lot of Jakarta malls, toy stores and yogya malls, but games seem not typically Indonesian ...
