We are fairly young (25 and 31) and want go somewhere where there is night life so we can party but not to the point where its 24/7 party all the time and full of 18 year olds on a gap year (no offence to gap yearing 18yr olds!). Itinerary - Indonesia - 6 weeks (First time backpacker)

Posted by firsttimeindo on 10/8/2014 at 08:04

Hello Everybody, On the 20th of august I will leave for 6 weeks to Indonesia. I will fly in and out from Bali. As I booked my ticket rather last minute and I'm a first time backer, I would love some advice on my Itinerary. Of the six weeks I would like to spend two on Bali, because of a friend who lives in seminyak. My main question is; what is the typical backpackers trail (one where I will quickly meet new people to spend the night or travel with). I have a large budget and can take some dom ...

Extending Visa in Bali & Onward Flights

Posted by nicoletta on 4/8/2014 at 01:56

Hi there, I'm looking at travelling to Indonesia from Phnom Penh in the next couple of weeks and am wondering if anyone has any recent experience extending their visa on their own without going through an agent? I'm a NZ citizen so can get a 30 day visa on arrival but would like to spend two months travelling. Also, does anyone know if it's acceptable to have your onward flight booked for 60 days later if you know you're definitely going to extend your visa? Any advice appreciated. Cheers. ...

Hi! I am trying to plan a 3 week trip Mid September-beginning of October, including Bali, Lombok (thinking we want to climb Rinjani) and the Gilli Islands. I was thinking we might do 3 nights in Bali, fly to Lombok 1 night, then 2 nights for the hike, another 2 nights on the beach, then maybe 5 nights on the Gilli Islands, and then back to Bali We want to have a combo of relaxing on nice beaches, good scuba diving and some cultural sites. What do you think of this itinerary? Too ambitious, are w ...

Raja Ampat on a budget?

Posted by Tokaymas on 21/12/2012 at 21:04

The Raja Ampat islands in Indonesia's West Papua province are one of the wildest and most pristine places we'd ever seen. Tourism is only just beginning out there, thanks to the region's astounding marine biodiversity and acknowledgement as one of the world's premier dive destinations. The only problem we had was organising our stay - there was almost *no* information available on the internet for travellers looking to visit Raja Ampat on a budget. We decided to remedy that and help local commun ...

Australia to Bali by boat

Posted by thaidi007 on 3/7/2014 at 00:47

We are planning on doing a RTW trip without catching a plane and would like to start our trip cruising to Bali starting between Nov 2015-Jan 2016. Unfortunately the few cruises that are available want full fare for a trip that we would only take part of. I have searched for days looking for alternatives, including freight cruises, but am now stuck on finding anything. Can anyone suggest something I may have missed, even if we go via another location. It's not a problem to start our trip from an ...

Java in July...too rainy?

Posted by comtam3000 on 11/7/2014 at 00:36

Towards the tail end of July and early August, I'd like to spend just over a week exploring East Java. Two highlights for me will be Mt. Bromo and Kawah Ijen. A few Indonesians have told me it's going to be really rainy there though...has anyone been to these areas this time of the year? I'd like to brave the rain...but for example if the chances of getting a clear day at Bromo are very very slim this time of year then I'd opt to skip it. Anyone tried this? ...

Avoid: Ekajaya fast boat between Bali and the Gilis

Posted by somtam2000 on 14/7/2014 at 20:16

A good friend had the misfortune to catch the Ekajaya fast boat from Padang Bali to Gili Trawangan yesterday and found the experience to be, well, slightly ordinary. With his permission, I've reproduced his stream from Twitter: Loving Ekajaya fast boat to Gilis. "Slight delay" meant "we cancelled your 11am boat to make more $$$ by cramming you onto the 1pm boat" https://twitter.com/ryanvb/status/488540405269794816 Have left Padangbai for the Gilis over 2 hours late on the ...

Recommendation of Bali driver

Posted by childly1979 on 10/6/2011 at 13:52

Before my arrival to Bali, I have searched on the Internet looking out for a driver and found Dodi. I wrote to Dodi for asking the price and booking details and he replied me asap with his number. Hence, I texted him a message but never thought that he rang me up to talk to me about the date. Dodi rang me again one day before my arrival. How much would those phone calls cost to him? I can tell that Dodi is an honest man that can be trusted with. He arrived at my hotel to pick me up on time and h ...
