I have 5 weeks (with a couple of extra days at each end of the trip in Bali) and I am doing my homework now as I plan my trip I am not a beach person and just enjoy meeting and hanging out with the locals and aim to travel slowly through these islands. I have no worries if I am the only westerner in town and do not see other travelers. I am the sort of person who if they like the place might hang around a week and if not get the next bus/train boat whatever out. Part of me says fly out to the fa ...

Indonesia 2015

Posted by tobfl on 18/5/2015 at 05:01

Hi guys, I am just planning the 2015 Indonesia vacation and i need some help as sometimes its just not easy to find good information. We - 2 people - have been to Indonesia before last year, mainly to north Sumatra, also short visit to Jakarta and Bromo. This year we want to go again in July and August, about 5 weeks. We want to do some trekking, preferably in a remote jungle, or/and staying in a jungle tree house, and doing some diving/snorkelling/swimming time on a nice beach, perhaps islan ...

Mount Bromo accommodation

Posted by stevenjmartin on 20/5/2015 at 16:03

We were planning to book one night in Cafe Lava Hostel before seeing Bromo, in between visiting Yogyakarta and moving on to Bali (a pretty typical plan, I imagine). However Cafe Lava Hostel is fully booked for the night we'd planned to stay there. Does anyone have any alternative recommendations as to places to stay in Cemoro Lawang? Or would you recommend staying further away and either a) waking up earlier to get to Bromo for sunrise, or b) getting to Bromo later (e.g. 8/9 am), as I have h ...

3 weeks: Bali to Komodo / Flores and back

Posted by seaniegraham on 20/5/2015 at 10:38

Hi All, I am looking into the potential of staying in Indo for a little longer and decided the Eastward travel would be more suited to my preference with the smaller islands available... maybe with the addition of Gn. Raung prior to the Eastward journey. with roughly 3 weeks see the best beaches, mountain hikes, coastal roads etc , potentially as far as Flores but definitely including the Komodo Islands, and then back to Bali. I would like to purchase a motorbike/Moped and have looked into ...

Join us! Tanjung Puting National Park in July 2015

Posted by Laira11 on 6/4/2015 at 03:02

Hey Guys, We (2 18-year-old girl) are volunteers from Germany. We are living in Indonesia for a year and before we fly back home in August, we want to travel around Indonesia. There is a really great national park (Tanjung Puting National Park), which we want to visit. There you can go by boat (houseboat) through the jungle for a couple of days (5days/4nights). Its too expensive for 2 persons, so if there is anybody who wants to join us, youre welcome! Then we can get the whole trip a lot chea ...

Rinjani crater rim from Tetebatu - possible/advisable?

Posted by jodiegallagher on 14/5/2015 at 04:57

Hello again, I really can't find much info out about this - I assume it's possible, but does anyone have any experience of the trek/views? Really tight on time, but would like to see Tetebatu over Senaru hence wanting to start from there. I emailed a couple of tour companies just to get a feel and one replied saying it was fine, less rubbish on the track etc. whereas another said it was dangerous! Once again, thank you! ...

Lombok - Flores (Komodo) return boat trip - alternatives to Perama?

Posted by jodiegallagher on 12/5/2015 at 09:06

Just a quick one - I was wondering if there are any alternative companies which offer a return trip from Lombok to Flores returning to Lombok over 4/5 nights? After reading a lot of negative reviews I'm reluctant to travel with Perama, however, flight/departure times don't really warrant flying to Flores via Bali just to get the boat back. Thanks! ...

The location of the Probolinggo bus station?

Posted by cloud on 12/4/2015 at 07:03

I plan to go to Bromo taking a bus from the Probolinggo bus station as explained in this site but I can not locate the bus station on a map. Would somebody explain its location? If its longitude and latitude are given, that's the best since then I can locate the place clearly in the Google Earth or Google map. If the values are not available, then clear explanation will be helpful, too. ...

Getting around Bali - specific questions/examples

Posted by stevenjmartin on 20/4/2015 at 06:25

Hi all, We are planning a trip to Bali and won't be able to rent a motorcycle legally. We could rent a car however (we have an international car license), but we aren't that keen to do so. With this in mind I was wondering if you could help with some specific questions about getting around Bali. These are the journeys I think we'll need to make: 1. Travel from ferry terminal (west Bali) to Pemuteran 2. Pemuteran to Munduk (90 minutes drive?) 3. Munduk -> Jatiluwih rice fields -> Pu ...

It will be expanded to Russian, Chinese and US citizens too. Great news, especially as I'm heading to Indonesia in a few months! ...

Rough cost of 3D/2N budget trip to Komodo from Labuan Bajo

Posted by blackbirdbeatle on 30/4/2015 at 06:35

I read wikitravel that said that prices are between 700k-2mm per person which depends on the season, quality of food, and amount of people (Not including all the fees of the park and beer). Wikitravel is usually a few years out of date, which in a place like Indonesia where they are all too happy to jack up prices to ever insane amounts each year, worries me. We (2 of us and hopefully at least two more), will be traveling there in a week or so, still shoulder season. We are planning on just g ...

South Lombok accommodation and base

Posted by stevenjmartin on 2/5/2015 at 05:13

At the end of our trip to Indonesia we will have four nights to spend in the south of Lombok. I am keen to visit Selong Belanak and Mawun beaches, but was wondering whether it's better to base ourselves in Kuta and scooter around or to actually stay closer to one of these beaches? Also, does anyone have any recommendations for budget accommodation in the south of Lombok? One place we were considering is Are Goling Bungalows ... Many thanks! ...

Gili Air or Gili Meno?

Posted by stevenjmartin on 28/4/2015 at 15:24

Hi all, We will be spending 3-4 days on a Gili as part of a longer trip to Bali and Lombok. We are really torn over which Gili to visit - I was leaning towards Air but was then more impressed by the pictures of the beaches on Meno. I understanding that Air is probably busier than Meno. We are a couple looking for a quiet island which some good value (if possible!), budget accommodation. Which has the better beaches and which has the better diving of the two? ...
