Java - itinierary timing and things missing?

Posted by summerfield on 19/9/2014 at 02:39

Dear all, we want to fly to Java in November. Our interests are historical/archaeology, landscapes. Total travel would be three weeks max, but shorter is fine as well. here below are our very rough ideas so far. Would be great if someone has some more ideas and can say something about how long we should be staying somewhere. Also, we have no idea on how to get around a place. Ordered a travel guide twice, and both seem to have vanished. Note: we live in a country with close to useless postal se ...

Posted by Anthropologist2 on 30/11/2014 at 09:41

Hi Fellow Trekkers, Myself and my two kids (in their 20s) are planning a two week trip to Indonesia Feb 15 - March 2 thereabouts. We're coming from Canada so need 22 hours travel time on both ends included in our itinerary (Canadians will do anything to escape winter!). We like off the beaten path and so far plan to spend some time in Bali (Gillis?), Borobudur, and some hiking. Any recommendations on getting around, suggested places in Bali/Ubud (guest house, surf lessons, places for medita ...

Clear water, few tourists

Posted by louiseee17 on 30/8/2014 at 22:32

Hello, My mum and I are traveling to Indonesia this month. After spending a week in the parks in Sumatra we'd love to see a beach or two the last week. I've been doing a lot of research, but there are so many beaches and some advice from first hand experience would be great. We would love a relaxed, scenic beach, preferably not huge resorts lining the coast with clear waters and nice sand (which I assume isn't too hard to find in Indonesia). I live in Thailand and I love the 'non-resorty', low- ...

Sumatra for 2 weeks in December 2014

Posted by wally16 on 11/11/2014 at 07:24

Hi! My boyfriend and I are travelling to Sumatra for 2 weeks in December, we can't wait. We are both bird and nature lovers and we are very excited to get into the rainforest. Does anyone who has been before have any itinerary suggestions? We realise that Sumatra is quite large, so in order to get the most of what we do see, we should perhaps pick one region of Sumatra. We definitely would like to do some jungle trekking and try to see wild orangutans so we think that the North would probably be ...

Surf & Yoga - recommendations?

Posted by cosmia on 11/2/2014 at 09:29

Does anyone have any recommendations for the best place to go for cheap Surfing & Yoga in Indonesia? I'm at the very beginning of my searching/planning - obviously I've been looking at Bali but I don't want to go and be taught how to be a 'goddess' - I just want somewhere chilled with interesting people, nothing too fancy & expensive. I like a hostel vibe but would probably want a single room, staying a couple of weeks before moving on to explore the area. Any help would be great ...

Transportation to Borobudur

Posted by Babalugats on 9/11/2012 at 09:45

Hey everyone, I'll be in Yogyakarta from November 22 to November 25. I like to see Borobudur at sunrise, and I wonder if it's possible - and safe - to travel by taxi during dawn. I'll stay in Delta Home Stay, by the way. I appreciate any advice you can give. Thanks! ...

Receiving a package in Bali

Posted by buffalonomad on 2/10/2014 at 20:59

I'm at the start of a 90 day tour through Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand and I need to have a small package sent to me, a smartphone. I plan to be in/around the kuta area for at least a week if not longer when I arrive, I have no accommodation booked yet but plan to stay at a hostel or guest house. I imagine I could contact where ever I decide to stay and have it sent there, but are there other options? Having it held at a shipping center or post office? ...

Posted by noratw9 on 10/10/2014 at 12:33

Hi all, My boyfriend and I are planning a 3-month trip to SE Asia, which will include Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Singapore and Indonesia. We plan to fly some of the longer/more difficult segments (i.e. Singapore to Jakarta). I was looking for cheap flights and stumbled upon utiket.com, which is an Indonesian flight search engine that includes a lot of the budget airlines including Lion Air. Anyone used this site before to book? It looks legit, but not knowing anything at all about booki ...

Lombok to Komodo tourist boat sinks, 15 missing.

Posted by somtam2000 on 17/8/2014 at 06:42

Media is reporting that a tourist boat sank Saturday night in big seas north of Bima in Sumbawa. Initial reports are suggesting ten foreigners and five Indonesians are missing. Ten people so far have been rescued. Media reports have quoted Tajudin Sam as being the owner of the boat, and through a quick web search, the company concerned appears to be Go Komodo Tours. This story: Travel Warning: Stay Away From Lombok Smile and GoKomodoTours! (from 2011) seems particularly pertinent and worth a r ...

We'd like to see Komodos/Rinca/Kanawa, Kelimutus lakes and also perhaps Riung Islands. We have a full month, really looking to find some serene places since we have the time to do so. But definitely not wanting to pack too much in. Wouldn't mind doing Flores for 12-16 days Any suggestions on some othe ...

Mount Bromo to Ijen Crater (No Tour!!)

Hi all, I'm planning a trip to Mount Bromo after an overnight stay in the village of Ngadas. I don't like tours, I don't drive and I probably can't ride an ojek due to a rolling duffel bag. Can anyone offer some directions/information? Is it possible to hire a driver in Ngadas to take me to Mount Bromo and then Mount Penanjakan? Then from Mount Bromo I plan to head to Bondowoso and onward to Kawah Ijen. Where can I hire a driver from Mount Bromo or is it better to take a bus? Also, how long is ...
