Indonesian free visa confusion (still)

Posted by SBE on 7/9/2016 at 11:54

The info on the embassy site mentioned in the FAQ section on TF http://www.indonesianembassy.org.uk/consular/consular_visa_type_free.html seems to indicate that the free 30 day visa is available at practically all airports since 2015 but I know for a fact this was still not true last March. ( Because I had to pay for a 30 day VOA in Makassar which is one of the "free" entry and exit airports on that list) For my next wee jaunt in Indo I'm planning to arrive in Jakarta ( free vis ...

Hello all! I'll be spending some time in Bali this October 2016 & would love to visit Yogyakarta for a day to see the Goa Jomblang cave & then off to Probolinggo to trek Mount Bromo. It looks like catching a flight from Denpasar to Yogyakarta would be the quickest route & then fr ...

Hi there! We're two students from Switzerland and plan to visit Indonesia in the beginning of September. We would like to go on a Klotok tour of 3d/2n to see the orang-utans in the Tanjung Puting National Park, but the prices seem rather high. Anybody want to share the boat? We're intending to go from 6th to 8th of September, but nothing is booked yet, so we're flexible about the exact dates. Thanks! ...

Motorbiking in Sumbawa

Posted by somtam2000 on 16/3/2016 at 07:22

While I'm still very early into this trip, here are a few pointers for anyone considering doing this -- and I'll add more as I go. The pics are a bit big - sorry! GENERAL RIDING ADVICE There are goats everywhere. Goats appear to have extremely limited road sense. Watch out. There are also dogs, cows and some buffalo -- all are smarter than goats. After rain, kids play on the road, so keep your eyes peeled -- they also kick a ball from one side of the road to the other a lot, which can be a bit ...

Hi all, Am planning a roughly three week trip to Sumbawa at the moment, and looking for suggestions - as while I've flown over it numerous times have never set foot on it. Broadly, so far I have Bima, Tambora (to climb), Lakey Peak, the breaks near Taliwang and very curious about the islands in the inland sea kind of thing below Tambora. There's also supposed to be some great beaches down past the Newmont mine in the southwest. Suggestions welcome & appreciated! ...

Motorbiking Sulawesi or Malaysian Borneo

Posted by Abi2016 on 5/6/2016 at 02:36

Hi all, I am looking for a travel buddy to join me on a motorbike trip around either Sulawesi (Indonesia) or Malaysian Borneo. I am relatively flexible in terms of my travel options, and haven't decided yet which of the two would be best. From what I've read online, long term motorbike rental (for up to a month) seems to be possible in both places. The dates I'm thinking of doing this are (approx) 17 June - 17 July. I am a 27 year old female from the UK. Im travelling alone, and have previou ...

Translation please. Booking domestic flights

Posted by SBE on 28/9/2012 at 15:06

I emailed Batavia the other day with this fairly simple enquiry: Is it possible for a foreigner to pay for a domestic flight online with a foreign credit card? My bank is in Europe. I do not have a bank account in Indonesia. Here is the answer I got. Can anyone tell me if they said yes or no? It used to be only possible to book flights on Indonesian airlines if you had a credit card issued by an Indonesian bank. Just wondering if that is no longer the case? Has anyone actually managed to boo ...

Hi there, I am in my early 30s and will be travelling to Bali solo very soon for 23 days. I have a rough itinerary planned. I was planning on spending the first four days in the Seminyak/Kuta/Legian area, five days Ubud/Gunung Kawai/Munduck. Three nights on Gili islands. Since reading about Indonesia I really want to explore a bit of Java, although I am a bit anxious about exploring this area solo. I was thinking of spending 10 days in Java then fly back to Bali to get my international flight ...
