Travelfish Indonesia

Posted by somtam2000 on 24/4/2010 at 07:54

Yes I know, we said it would never happen. But as someone famous once said, never say never. Partly as a result of the ongoing political dramas in Thailand we're going to start adding coverage to parts of Indonesia to Travelfish. Given there's 17,000 islands and we've still got quite a bit of work cut out on our Malaysia section, we're not promising comprehensive coverage anytime soon, but we will be trying to cherry pick some of the destinations you'll more likely be heading to. We'll ...

Yogyakarta to Bromo

Posted by Rohan on 23/6/2012 at 22:42

Does anyone know if it is possible to travel from Yogyakarta to Mt Bromo in one day? I have seen some tour companies that do it, but have read fairly awful things regarding reliability. I would also prefer to take the train as far as possible rather than the bus. ...

Car Hire in Indonesia

Posted by camillasw on 18/5/2011 at 03:22

I am going to Indonesia for 8 weeks over the summer and was thinking about hiring a car with 3 friends and driving around Bali or Lombok. Has anyone had any experience with car hire? Is driving in Indonesia very different to England? (Last summer we went to Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia so I have had some experience of the crazy Asian driving-styles!) Any tips, warnings, recommendations are welcome. Thanks! ...

Which is the better location for white water rafting in Bali?

Posted by klb5050 on 1/6/2013 at 05:10

I am looking at booking a white water rafting tour in Bali for later this year and am tossing up between rafting at the Agung river vs the Telaga Waga river. I have gone rafting at the Agung river before, but as this is intended as a present for my boyfriend's (delayed) birthday, I want to book the tour for the river that has the most challenging rapids. Does anyone have experience with both locations and which is the best/most challenging? ...

Flores, Indonesia questions

Posted by klb5050 on 22/5/2013 at 21:54

Hello all. I am new to posting on this site, but have been actively reading for several months now. My boyfriend and I are leaving for our 3-4 month Southeast Asia trip in late August and I just have some questions concerning Flores, Indonesia. We intend to spend a whole month in Indonesia and are flying into Denpasar, Bali, as that is the cheapest flight from Australia. From there we would (hopefully) fly into Ende (or Maumere if flights not available to Ende, but Ende preferable) and out of ...

Suggestions please! 6 weeks Lombok - Bali - Java

Hi, We are heading to Indonesia in a few weeks, flying into Lombok and out of Jakarta . This forum was really helpful in deciding to do that, so thank you. I've sketched out a rough number of days for each place below. We don't really want to plan any more (and what's below is nowhere near set in stone, we will just see how things go), but it would be great if you had any suggestions for cool places that are on our route. We're students, quite active, want to do and see a lot of different t ...

Last minute advice re Bali route

Big apology to all those who have replied to my previous post re. exploring in whole of Bali in 9days. Since then my gf has decided to tag along with me for few days so have to slow the pace a little and change the itinerary completely. I'm prepared to copy/absorb the itineraries of the most experienced forum members here as I've given up on re-routing my original itinerary within next few days. I've just come back from manila and singapore with first time travellers to asia and it was a nightma ...

Flores for two weeks

Posted by somtam2000 on 20/3/2013 at 23:45

We're off to Flores for a couple of weeks this Sunday, flying in and out of Labuanbajo from Bali. We've got the kids (4 & 6) in tow and aside from either showing them (or feeding them to, depending on behaviour) Komodo Dragons we have a blank slate. Kanawa has come highly recommended from some friends here and The Twitter, as has Wae Rebo, but aside from that we were thinking of getting a hire car and taking a bit of a poke around -- nothing too arduous -- or perhaps doing a boat trip for a ...

Trekking on Rinca or Komodo - Which is better?

Posted by RJB2288 on 30/4/2013 at 09:01

Hi all - I'm planning on doing a 2N/3D live aboard dive boat in the Komodo National Park (leaving from Laban Bajo) and wanted to spend a half day (or maybe even a full day) trekking on either Komodo or Rinca. I read in Lonely Planet that Komodo is a lot less touristy and more wild than Rinca since most dive boats go to Rinca. But then I read somewhere else that Rinca is better. Can anyone tell me which island is better for a long trek (more than just an hour)? I know you see more Komodos on ...
