Indonesia to Timor Leste overland

Posted by somtam2000 on 19/6/2011 at 05:40

Our good friend Theodora and her son have been busy motorbiking from Bali to Papua over the last month ago and she'll just penned a very useful howto guide for crossing the border from Indonesia to Timor Leste (East Timor) overland. If you happen to be heading that way, on- or off- motorbike, you'll find the post to be quite useful - as is the blog in general for travel in Indonesia. ...

Last minute advice for trip needed

Posted by travelinchen on 19/7/2011 at 19:36

Hi there, so, my partner and I now have about less than a week before we fly to Indonesia (traveling through Java and Bali, with a trip to the Gilis for a month). We are soooo excited, but of course also a bit nervous as this is our first time to Indonesia. We thought about a few questions which might sound silly to someone who's already been there, but would make our planning so much easier. 1. we previously thought that we don't need vaccinations or malaria tablets given that we'll only be i ...

Packing list for Java, Bali and Gili -- what do you think?

Posted by travelinchen on 20/7/2011 at 17:56

Hey guys, so, I decided to start a new thread here, since the topic is more specific than the one of my last post. I made a list of the stuff we're thinking of taking to Indonesia so far. Just a quick reminder, we'll be in Indonesia for pretty much a month, starting in Yogya, Mt Bromo, Ijen crater, overland to Bali, Ubud, then to Gili islands -- so pretty beaten track. It'll be our first time to I., so we'd be really thankful for any advice concering the packing list (what to add, what to leave) ...

trip advising

Posted by deacon on 20/7/2011 at 09:18

I am thinking about heading to Southeast Asia for 4 weeks or so in December and January. I was looking for any good advice for everything on tips to island hop, hostels, border crossing within the region, and good dive sites. I know that the area is relatively inexpensive but what is a good price range to keep in mind for the explorers that have destined here. I perfer to stay off the beaten path and to stay in hostels or a hammock on the beach, (sorry to whom it concerns, but tourists with h ...

Bali for first solo trip ?

Posted by Boistatisane on 14/7/2011 at 20:00

Hi all, I am planning to spend about one month in Bali in late august til mid september. As it is my first solo trip, i'm afraid no to meet anyone there, and i'd like to meet people doing the same trip. I planned to go to the main touristic places, but maybe not that much Kuta. I will spend also some times in Lombok or the Gili Islands, but i'm open to others destinations. What do you think about travelling alone for the first time in Bali ? I guess it is an easy trip, but still wondering ...

Bangli and Batur volcano

Posted by heddenswest on 9/7/2011 at 19:41

Hi, I'm heading to Bali in August and wanting to climb Batur and explore the surrounding area. It sounds beautiful but the accommodation options sound a bit limited and very oriented towards those hiking the mountain. Does anyone have any recommendations for a place or a town that offers more than a place to sleep before the hike? I'm interested in walking/biking around and checking out some coffee farms too. Any recommendations for the general region? Thanks a bunch! ...

Jungles near Java/bali area?

Posted by mmcphee7117 on 13/7/2011 at 20:32

Hey all I'm heading abroad for several months and I have a friend who is going to accompany me for only 24 days before he has to head back home so he will only be doing the Indonesian part of my trip. He really has his heart set on exploring some jungles (we're both former Marines who love camping and being outside) but it seems like trying to add a trip to Borneo into the itinerary would eat up unnecessary time and money whether by boat or air. I was wonderingn if there are any jungles around ...

Another Java and Bali itinerary!

Posted by silverteeth on 13/7/2011 at 09:18

Hello everyone! I'm sure you're sick of these by now, but I have yet another Java and Bali itinerary for you to evaluate! I have about two weeks. I'm flying into Denpasar on the 10th of August, and flying back to Japan from Jakarta. I'm thinking something like this... 3-4 nights Ubud 2 nights Lovina (or some other quieter beach location, not far from the ferry crossings to Java. The exact location isn't terribly important, but I'd rather not rent a car, and I'd like to be someplace quie ...

Honeymoon in Bali -- 2.5 Weeks

Posted by Obrad on 28/4/2011 at 21:08

Hi All, I was hoping that this forum would be able to give me some help as to recommendations and an Itinerary for my fiance and my honeymoon in Bali. We are going to be there from June 29th to July 15th or 16th and will be specifically in Bali. For the first week or so, we will be staying at my cousin's villa in Kuta Beach and would look for any recommendations of day trips or activities or sights to see while in that area. After that we were looking at exploring a little more of the area ...

A Month in Indonesia

Posted by lowalker147 on 12/7/2011 at 07:16

I would like to spend a month in Indonesia and have narrowed it down to Bali, Kalimantan and Sulawesi. Can someone recommend places go and guides in Kalimantan and Sulawesi? Also, because of transportation technicalities, would it be better to skip out on Sulawesi or Kalimantan and do Java? It seems like it be easier to get to these two places by boat from Java than from Bali where I'd have to fly. Can someone advise me on what to do? ...

a month in Indonesia - ideal itinerary?

Posted by travelinchen on 19/3/2011 at 18:53

Hey, my man and I are planning to travel to Indonesia in August for around 30 days -- first time. We're on a rather tight budget, but we'd like to include lots of temples, cafes to hang out, and a week or so of off-beach snorkeling. A visit to a Spa would be great too. We'd like to avoid flying within Indonesia (in all likelihood we'll arrive in Jakarta), but rather go by train or bus. We're also rather on the taking-it-easy side, we don't mind long and complicated traveling, but we prefer to s ...

Budget location for surf, reliable wifi, and away from the masses?

Posted by CaitlinP on 6/7/2011 at 22:17

Hi, We're looking for somewhere to stay cheaply for a month whilst applying on line for jobs. We want to be very close to a surf break, and want to avoid the likes of Kuta/Legian/Seminyak. We need reliable wifi access, preferably within the accommodation. I'd love somewhere that is also close to somewhere that offers yoga, but that isn't really a priority. We're thinking somewhere Bali, but are open to other suggestions. Would really appreciate suggestions for the trifector of surf, wifi, and C ...

Travel advice needed --- travel overland from Java to Bali

Posted by travelinchen on 28/6/2011 at 21:49

Hi guys, so, we have a good idea of when and where to go in Bali, but there is still one week which we haven't really decided on yet and it would be great to hear your opinion on what's realistic here. Between our departure from Yogya (after we've seen Bromodur and Prambanan) and before our planned arrival in Ubud we've got seven or eight nights to get from Yoyga to Ubud, obviously with stops en route. But since we travel overland, what would be the best Itinerary for the seven nights (eigh ...

Indonesia OR Thailand?!?

Posted by ewhiting10 on 27/6/2011 at 04:05

Hi, I am flying into Singapore around April next year and want to do some exploring before I head on to Australia (and I have to leave out of Singapore - annoyingly!) I have no idea whether to head north to malaysia and maybe southern Thailand islands or to head down Indonesia way and see the volcanoes/dragons etc. (Hate to summarise 2 vastly amazing places like that but you get my drift!) Budget is limited (were talking £500 - £1000 at a push) but time isn't especially (unless by money!). I ...
