Posted by maccy on 31/1/2011 at 03:35

Hey, I'm planning a trip from the UK to Australia and trying to factor in Indonesia. My only problem is that the only time I can fit Indo in runs into Christmas and New Year. I can either stay in Indo over that time and fly out to Aus once Christmas and New Year is over or I could try and Fly out either a couple of days before Christmas or a couple of days before New Year. So I guess my questions are: 1) Is it going to be major expensive to fly out over that period for anyone who has done thi ...

Day trips to Gili Air-Lombok, Kuta-Ubud?

Posted by Nicol on 5/2/2011 at 04:55

Hi Please could anyone advise if it is feasible for me to do day trips from Gili Air island to Lombok. As I am staying on Gili air for 3 weeks I thought I could do day trips to Lombok rather than having to relocate to other accomodation on Lombok? Also for my last few days I wanted to explore Ubud . Is it an option for me to stay on Kuta Beach and go to Ubud for day trips or should I base myself in Ubud for the last few days? I know its 75 min drive from Kuta beach, would this be expensi ...

Lodging Review: Flowerbud Bungalows in Balangan, Bali

Posted by cisdeluca on 9/2/2011 at 18:36

Down south in the bukit peninsula of Bali, is a quiet coastal town of Balangan Beach. With a fun intermediate level wave to surf and many local warungs along the beach, this is an area that is yet to become over developed. Just up the hill from the beach, about 30 meters, is Flowerbud Bungalows. A well manicured property with an infinity pool, Flowerbud has 14 multi-sized bungalows. They have bungalows that can accommodate groups between 2 and 6 people. Constructed with bamboo and walled in outd ...

I am a web developer and I need reliable access to the internet. Als ...

Any info on Pulau Weh Island aka Sabang, Indonesia??

Posted by katbone on 19/10/2010 at 23:57

My husband and I are travelling to SE Asia next March. Originally we were going to explore the Thai Islands but after reading about how most of them are quite touristy and overcrowded we are thinking about opting for Sabang also known as Weh Island which is just off Banda Aceh, Indonesia. We have heard this is much less developed and has deserted beaches, and more like how the Thai islands were 20 years ago. Sounds much more what we had in mind. However we can't find any up to date info on i ...

Timor-Leste, advice needed

Posted by Sparts on 7/12/2010 at 06:38

Hi everyone, it's been a while since I've visited here but now I finally have a trip back to SE Asia "planned". I say planned, but it's not much of a plan so far! In truth there really isn't much I can plan for at the moment as my schedule will be dictated by others, brief explanation to follow! Basically I hope this thread will grow arms and legs but hoped that someone out there could help me with information on Timor-Leste, or East Timor as it's commonly known. So, I will be visiti ...

Posted by ElaineMcG on 24/11/2010 at 18:50

Hey everyone, I am debating whether or not to visit Indonesia early next year as part of my travels. As a 26 year old female travelling alone I have been advised to check into safety issues when travelling Indonesia. Just wondering has anybody had any experiences with this? Is there particular places to avoid or particular areas that are safer than others, is it worth it?? All/any advice would be gladly accepted! ...

Sumatra during Ramadan

Posted by millipatti on 2/1/2011 at 05:30

Hi! I'm actually thinking about my next travel, from mid-July to mid-August. Sumatra is on my shortlist (with Sri Lanka) but I hesitate because half of my trip would be during Ramadan. I know it is perfectly possible to travel during this period but I wonder if I would miss a lot of the experience this place has to offer. I love to stop in small roadside eateries or markets... I can't imagine eating only in guesthouses during the day! And how about the more "general" atmosphere? Do a ...

East Timor into Indonesia overland, then boat between islands, 2months

Posted by hmeyer on 11/11/2010 at 09:19

Hi all, This is my first time on Travelfish. I'm a solo female traveller, looking for some advice on the best way of travelling from East Timor into Indonesia. I'd like to cross overland into West Timor and then travel by boat via some of the smaller islands in the archipelago, then Java, Sumatra, and into Malaysia. I have 2 months in Indonesia as part of a 12month trip around Asia. My questions are: - is it possible (and safe) to cross from east to west timor - how do I go about travelling via ...

Motorcycling in Bali and Lombok

Posted by ade7 on 19/8/2009 at 14:51

Hi, What is the deal with motorcycling in Bali and Lombok? We were hoping to hire scooters, especially in Lombok, but we have read in the Lonely Planet guide that you need an international license (which we dont have) and that police fines have become more common in Lombok. We have hired scooters in Java (Pangandaran and Jogja) with no problems. Any help much appreciated. Thanks, Andy ...
