Hi, I found a place in Luang Namtha that rents motorbikes with a drop off option in either Luang Prabang or VTE. I plan on riding for about 12 days and I'd appreciate help with an itinerary and whether I should go all the way to VTE or stop in LP. I plan on a very modest pace and would like to ride about 3-5 hours daily (in the morning). Looking at the map I'm thinking of this route:
Luang Namtha - Oudam Xay - Nong Kiew - east from NK looping around highway 1C to Phonsavan - Phou Khoun - ...
Hoping to get some advice on getting from 4000 islands up to plain of jars. We've found ourselves with limited time after getting caught up in the slow life down on dondhet, but are hoping to visit plain of jars before catching a flight from Vientiane on the 20th.
Is it possible to get a bus direct from pakse to plain of jars, and if so what's the journey like? Happy to do night buses and hoping to avoid going through Vientiane to get there! ...
On March 31, the US Embassy has elevated its warning to now include what is commonly referred to as "the new road" between Kasi and Luang Prabang . This means that both roads connecting the towns of Luang Prabang and Vang Vieng are now subject to Embassy travel restrictions.
You can read the full message here
The US embassy has just upgraded their warnings for travel on the road between Kasi and Luang Prabang . Historically this has been an at times dangerous stretch, but a couple of recent attacks, along with attacks seemingly aimed at Chinese labour in Xaisomboun province, are very concerning.
The important part of the warning says (my bold):
The Embassy has prohibited official travel on Road 13 from Km 220 north of Kasi in Vientiane province to Km 270 at the Phou Khoun junction in Luang ...
I have a 7 or 8 day gap in September and would like to do a round trip from Vientiane as this is the only airport with direct routes from KL. Can anyone suggest a ground agent or would I be better asking if you experts can give me a suggested itinerary. ...
Hello, I am from Myanmar and traveling in the April new year time with this route of "Yangon-Myawadi-Mae Sot-Nong Khai- Vientiane - Siem Reap " (then fly from Siem Reap to Bangkok which is the easy part, then fly back to Yangon).
Now I am stuck in looking for the information of how to travel from Vientiane to Siem Reap. And even get to the point of worried as my travel time is the new year time for both Loas and Camboida.
Can anyone share the info of how to if you happen to k ...
I have around 4 weeks in Nov this year for a trip to Southern Laos on my to do list is Kong Lor Cave and 4000 islands and Wat Phou.

Taking a moped and heading out to do one of the loop's is not a option for us
If I have time I might keep heading south into Cambodia
I have already been to LP VV in Loas and SR PP Sih in Cambodia and have covered Vietnam,Thailand, and also Burma

I'm planning a trip with my bf to Laos this summer, we would have 4 weeks. We will probably arrive in Bangkok.
We would like to get ourselves a motorbike preferably in luang prabang, then drive down to Vientiane, and then all the way down to the Cambodian border. Of course some nice stops in between. Ideally we would then go to Cambodia siem reap and south to the sea.
Do you think this would be possible with a motorbike in 4 weeks. And what would you think is the best option of getting ...
Before you go and dive into the two day boat ride into Luang Prabang and beyond, consider this, a more interesting route
You can go from Mandalay to Pyin oo lwin by ute, a day of so there,
then onto Hsipaw, a day or so there.
Catch the train into Lashio and the next day or so Fly to Tachileik.
This is a flight as there is a dust up going under you. The flight is Sat and Mon by Golden Myanmar (An airline that thankfully, the planes operate better than their web site 1% useful, dont ...
Without shopping around that much (But noting in mind that "You get what you pay for"), the impression I am getting is that the trekking services offered are fairly expensive (Around 65$ for a two days trek).
I have done before trekking in Myanmar (Kalaw-Inle lake and around Hsipaw) which were significantly cheaper.
And so my question is: Is trekking here a must-do thing here? Is it a unique experience that is much different from other places?
Hi there, this is my dilemma (and obviously i'm dealing with time and itineraries) :
I will be in Bangkok on March 15th and need to be around Siem Reap to meet a friend on April 5/6.
In these 3 weeks I would like to quickly go up north to Chiang Mai, Pai, Chiang Rai, then slowly cross the border to Laos, head to Luang Prabang, and from there take a plane to Rep (just to be exactly on time), but i would really love to go down to Southern Laos and cross the border from there to Cambodia to St ...
-can anyone recommend a cheap river boat trip somewhere in SE asia please for 5 people total on the boat please?

-possible to hire a "guy with a boat" somewhere for maybe 3 days?
I have one week from Dien Bien Phu to get to Bangkok. A have a flight back Europe from Bangkok.
I read a lot about all the alternatives I have, and most suitable for me it seems to be the following journey:
-> Muang Khua
-> Luang Prabang
From Vientiane I would take the train to bangkok (11 hours).
I dont know exactly how many nights to spend in every location. I would also like to know a local guide in Muang Khua and also in Pho ...

I'm trying to wrap my head around where to go on our three week round trip starting in march.
i've been reading in older topics on travel fish a lot and here is what i figured out so far:
-Fly to Bangkok
-Fly up to Chiang Mai straight away
-Bus to Chiang Khong
-Cross Border and take slow boat to Luang Prabang
-Skip Vang Vieng and Vientiane and fly to Pakse to see 400 islands
-Bus to Siem Reap ...
After a great time along the Nam Tha river for two days last year, I want to make it the whole stretch from Luang Namtha to Pak Tha this year, what means a six days kayak adventure downstream. With camping, homestay, guesthouses possibly as well. From Pak Tha (Mekong) the boats to Huai Xai or Pak Beng/Luang Prabang or a bus to Huai Xai are connecting transportation.
Is anybody up to share this last river experience, before all rivers in Northern Laos will be damm(n)ed? I am flexible fro ...
I'm getting an overnight VIPsleeper bus from Pakse to Vientiane and I want to go straight to the airport from the southern bus terminal. Yes I know, bit risky relying on a long distance bus in Laos to catch a flight but several people in Pakse have assured me that the new sleeper buses are very reliable and actually arrive on time ..... hmm that means they're unlike any other buses in Laos then!
My bus is supposed to arrive in VTE at around 6.00am so it should, in the ...
Hi guys, I would like to aware again some agencies as one is on No.24rd. in Pakse , next to Motorbike rent company, who are not fair and correct with them services at all. Specially they organize transport to various places around South east Asia with coach company Seangsomboun transportation North-South. There is orgnize crime, when they promise you comfortable travelling with luxury V.I.P. bus. They drop you tobus station, you will get in to very luxury and good bus, but after half hour fr ...
Hello, this is an FYI - when we got our 10 day Laos Visa extension at the Immigration Office a couple weeks ago in Vientiane, there were travellers who expected they could get the Extension the same day they applied but were told they that was not possible & were quite upset. Immigration said all extensions take one day, we picked ours up the next day. They did mention something about going to the Airport but did not hear it all.
Also was in Champasak yesterday and they have a BCEL ATM, ...
