While in Vang Vieng, staying at the Dokboua GH, someone opened our door at 1:30 a.m. We were already awake from the drunks down the hall and started yelling. We didn't catch whoever it was, but beware, they need to install deadbolts. Claire Rogers NewBohemians.net ...

Rain doesnt bother me but I have heard some horror stories about the hike in/out (10+ hours each way in tough conditions), and wanted to get a second opinion? Thanks for your time, BeachFunGuy ...

Comments to my route: Luang Prabang, Pakse and Ko Maak

Posted by nadineurban on 15/11/2009 at 19:31

Hello! I am planning my holidays and would be greateful for comments. I am not sure if I am too ambitious... I am flying from Bangkok to Luang Prabang . I want to do trips from Luang Prabang for a week, then fly to Attapeu and do trips around Pakse for a week. The final week/days I want to spend at the beach and relax. After reading a lot about Cambodia I think I would prefer a less touristy beach in Thailand. I found Ko Maak which sounds amazing. From Ko Maak I will have to get ...

Will Pakse airport close again in 2010?

Posted by Tripledutch on 16/11/2009 at 05:08

We are planning to go to Laos in July 2010. When enquiring for a room, we got the following message from the hotel we were planning to stay: "It {Pakse airport} is expected to close again by the end of Aprils/2010 and reopen on Oct/2010(6 month) for renovation." although they mentionned they were not sure yet. The airport has just reopened and I had not read anything about a new closure so far, does anybody has more information on a new closure? ...

Pakse airpot has re-opened

Since so many people are interested in this continuing saga I am happy to let you know that this morning the first flight left Vientiane for Pakse and Siem Reap as te airpot was re-opened today. I was flying out of Vientiane so I thought I would ask. I saw on the departuer board the above flight info and asked at the Lao Airlines counter. Perhaps its was the good fortune of That Luang festival or the conjunction of That Luang with my birthday but in any case Pakse Airport is on agai ...

To Vientiane or Luang Prabang from KL, or options?

Posted by Sampan on 7/11/2009 at 16:52

Hello forum! I'm trying to figure out the best way (i.e. cheapest) to get to Vientiane or Luang Prabang by air from KL. I would prefer to fly direct but if that isn't possible , or if it would be cheaper to go with a few stops, i wouldn't mind. BUT, and here is an other question, if I'd flew via Bangkok would i then "trigger" my second entry (i'm on a double entry tourist visa), or could i get a transit visa at the airport without having to cancel or trigger my existing visa?? ...

Sleeper bus - Vientiane to Pakse

Posted by dclayw on 17/7/2009 at 07:50

Well, I'm just starting to re-plan our trip to Laos this December/January, so expect a few posts from me over the next few weeks. I say re-plan because our month long trip planned for last December/January didn't happen because of the closure of BKK airport early December last year. (This time we are by-passing Thailand altogether) I can't find much info on the sleeper bus Vientiane to Pakse. There appears to be a few companies offering the service. Can anyone provide some info on which com ...

Thailand to Laos border crossing question

Posted by Jynne on 6/11/2009 at 23:02

I will be taking a bus from Chiang Mai to the Laos border (the Chiang Kong/ Huay Xai crossing). If I arrive in Chiang Kong at night, after the border is closed, will there be enough time the next morning for me to cross the border first thing, and still catch a boat to Luang Prabang (one of the two day boats that stop in Pakbeng)? It seems most people cross from Chiang Kong to Huay Xai in the evening and are ready to go on the boat first thing in the morning, but I am afraid I won't get to ...
