Going to Laos from Singapore. Need Currency (Lao Kip)???
Posted by Andrew500 on 22/7/2013 at 06:48Hi All I just got back from Laos and have around 2,000,000 kip left. This is over $300 SGD. I thought I'd be able to change at local money changes but apparently not. As such, if you're in Singapore and planning to go to Laos anytime soon, I'd be happy to sell to you. I will offer much better rates than anything you will find inside Laos. My contact is andrewf222 (at) yahoo ( dot) com and I work near Somerset on Orchard Road. Thanks Andrew ...

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows anywhere I can buy a chess set in Luang Prabang. I'm not too fussed whether it is made of wood or stone and don't mind spending a bit of money on a really nice one. I thought I might find one at the night markets but couldn't see any when I went for a walk through tonight.. Thanks! ...

How to get my Vietnamese motor bike into Thailand if the bike is not in my name?
Posted by Kittysquirrel on 14/6/2017 at 00:00I am in Vientiane, Laos and I have a Vietnamese motorbike. I have read the forums saying that the bike needs to be in your name to cross into Thailand? But I have a little card that says the owners name (which is not mine). Is there anyway I can still get in to Thailand? Thanks! ...

Bus from Luang Prabang to Vang Vieng
Posted by Trish177 on 12/6/2017 at 00:29hi, I'm travelling from LP to VV in a couple of days and torn between the VIP bus or the minivan. Minivans seem cheaper and take less time - but I sort of like being up higher on the VIP buses, which also allegedly, have toilets and provide lunch. has anyone done the trip recently - a few older posts suggested the VIP buses were not so good, but not sure if that has now changed. ...

Loas - Vietnam border crossing
Posted by Trish177 on 5/6/2017 at 00:26Im travelling to Loas and arrive in Luang Prabang on 09/06 where I am planning to stay for 5 nights. After that I have just 7 days to see a bit more of Northern Laos before crossing to Vietnam. Trying to work out best options of where to cross. First inclination was to suck up the cost and fly from Vientiane to Hanoi , as it only takes just over an hour! But feel I might be missing a bit of an adventure - so other options would be a bus from Vientiane to Vinh and then overnight sleep ...

Tourist dies at Gibbon Experience in Laos
Posted by somtam2000 on 28/3/2017 at 23:12Tragically a tourist has died at the Gibbon Experience in Laos. This is the first fatality since its inception in 1996. Details are still sketchy on what happened. If you're headed that way soon, it will be prudent to contact them to check the status of the investigation and if the zip-lines have reopened. More details here and there is a brief statement on their website. ...

Phongsaly to Nong Khiaw by boat?
Posted by Kmcgregor1 on 2/5/2017 at 08:27Hi guys I'll be heading to Phongsaly to do some trekking and was thinking of heading to Nong Kiaow from here via boat. I've had a look online and pieced together bits of information and I think it will be possible. From Phongsaly there should be a bus/truck to Hatsa. From Hatsa I can take a boat to Muang Khua then from there a boat to Muang Ngoi. From there I should be able to take a boat to Nong Khiaw. Obviously overnight stays needed and I have some time to do this trip. I'd really ...

Hi everyone, I would be very glad and thankful if you have some information for us on this: We are heading to Laos in May and planning to go by bus from Vientiane to Na Hin. Thought about having a break in Pak Kading, if possible for one night. But we hesitate as we did not find up to date information about accommodation in Pak Kading. There seems to be Vilada Guesthouse, but is it still operating? Or any other guesthouse? I am just scared we will drop off the bus and find us without a place t ...

Is it possible to visit the falls in Don Khon staying only 1 night?
Posted by algonette7987 on 22/4/2017 at 00:19Regretfully, I am on something of a fly-by visit to Southern Laos (5 nights in all before I fly to Vientiane). I am a solo traveller and would like to take the bus/boat from Champasak leaving around 8 am (as I have heard is possible), spend one night in Don Khon, and return to Pakse leaving the island around 11 am. I would leave later but I saw online that 11 am is when most people leave. I'd prefer not to spend a lot of money to hire a private car and even that isn't going to get me to th ...

Travel warning for travel between Kasi and Luang Prabang in Laos
Posted by somtam2000 on 19/2/2017 at 23:01We received a report this week from a Travelfish user of a shooting on a bus they were travelling on between Luang Prabang and Vientiane late last week and one passenger, a Lao, was shot in the stomach. Historically travel between Kasi and Luang Prabang has been somewhat dangerous (especially around Phoun Khoun), but it had settled down over the last decade. However, in the last 12 months though, there have been a number of shootings and attacks on this road. Tourists have not prev ...

Bus Travel Vientiane to Luang Prabang
Posted by 58raeaton70 on 30/1/2017 at 02:28Hello - in the next week, my wife and are planning to travel by bus from Vientiane to Luang Prabang. It would appear the violence issues of a few months back have subsided? I am curious if there any travelers out there who have recently traveled this route? And if so were there any issues?
