Posted by WinstonRumfoord on 25/1/2011 at 17:09

Has anyone done a visa run from Houei Xai to Chiang Khong and back to extend a stay in Laos? Also I have a 60 day Thailand visa, will that be used up? So when I cross a second time to Thailand, by this crossing, will I only get a 15 day visa for Thailand? ...

Vieng Xai Caves - Adventurers wanted

Posted by DanandElise on 12/7/2011 at 19:07

Hey there! My wife and I will be arriving in Xam Neua on July 14th, 2011 with the hopes of taking a day trip out to Vieng Xai to see the caves. Will anyone else be in this region at the same time who would like to get together and cut the costs of the excursion? We are Canadians, 28 and 26, and open to anyone from anywhere joining us. With this being the off-season, the group sizes are not what they are normally and thus would be nice to share some costs. Reply here or shoot us an email! - ...

Homestay near Luang Prabang

Posted by Eireann on 28/6/2011 at 01:39

Hi all I plan on being in LP for 5 nights in late July and just wondering if its possible to do a village homestay anywhere nearby? Are there any local tour operators that offer this? I know its possible to do it further north but I don't want to have to travel too far (though a few hours cycle/trek is fine). I had originally planned to do this as part of a tour in Vietnam but I think the Laos experience would be a bit more authentic.... Thanks Eireann ...

Hello everyone I'll be heading to Laos next week and have only 2 weeks for Laos and Vietnam (decided to do a little bit of both since I couldn't bring myself to choose between the 2 countries! I've been to Laos before and spent my time there in the north, so this time I'd like to spend my few days in the south instead. My rough idea is as follows tuesday- reach vientiane in the afternoon (flying in to here fr KualaLumpur), hop on the night bus to Pakse wednesday ...

Travel Help! Bangkok, Laos, Ko Pha Ngan

Posted by philmill05 on 27/6/2011 at 02:08

Hi, I'm starting my year out next April and was trying to get an idea of how is best to travel from Bangkok to Laos and Ko Pan Ngan. I'm giving myself about 4weeks to do this part of my trip. Is this long enough or too long? Would be flying into and out of Bangkok airport so including how to get back to Bangkok quickly and cheaply would be helpful. Also if people think 4weeks may be too long going into Vietnam would be an option, would this be feasible on a £25-£30 a day budget? Any help on ...

Clueless about budget travel in Laos

Posted by csawala on 20/6/2011 at 21:22

I will be in Cambodia until early-mid September, and would like to go up to Laos then onward through SE Asia. Time is not an issue, but money is. I need to spread my moneys out in order to see everything from Thailand down to Bali if I can (including Philippines, and a whole lot of scuba diving along the way). The question is whether to go straight from Cambodia, or get into Thailand first and go up from there. What are the easiest and/or cheapest ways to get there and back? Also, what are s ...

I'm currently in Hanoi , and tomorrow morning I leave for a three day cruise in Ha Long Bay. When I return, I will take a trip to Sapa (leaving same-day I return from HLB). I want to travel throughout Laos, but instead of going to Cambodia after, I want to go to North Thailand (Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai, Pai), before returning to Bangkok to go to the islands in the south. Recognizing that the overland voyage between Hanoi and Vientiane/Luang Prabang is known as the "Road to Hell" and ...

ten days - gibbon experience, luang prabang and a beach in thailand

Posted by Maitreyi on 15/6/2011 at 19:57

Hi, We are planning a ten day vacation and Laos has captured our fancy. Everyone is raving about Northern Laos, particularly Hua Xhai and Luang Prabang is what we are keen on exploring. We have barely ten days to spare and we dont want to spend all our time traveling. Another place that seemed very pretty to me is Halong Bay. We are not very keen on spending a lot of time in cities- being in forests , trekking , spending some time on a beach seems perfect . So, this is what I have very rough ...

Eloping in Laos?

My boyfriend and I are taking a trip to south east Asia next year and we have been thinking about having a wedding ceremony whilst in Laos. We just want to have an extremely simple ceremony for the two of us and exchange some rings, once we return we plan on going to the courthouse in our country and "officially" getting married, but we really want a small ceremony in Laos. How would one go about this, is it something you could just ask about at a hotel or guesthouse and have them arra ...

Popping across border to Nong Khai and back?

Posted by busylizzy on 16/6/2011 at 06:14

Hey there - this is possibly a stupid question, but hey, it won't stop me from asking. I was just wondering if that's possible from Vientiane to Nong Khai (and back)? I am flying into Vientiane, but if this was possible, I would like to go to NK for the day - without needing another visa to come back into Laos. (I think that I have read previously that this can be done from Thailand into Myanmar (and back).....) I've scoured around but haven't come across the answer anywhere... ...
