Camera shop in Vientiane

Posted by bails87 on 6/11/2010 at 22:50

I'll cut to the chase: I got drunk and I lost my camera! However, I'm going toVientiane tomorrow morning, is there a decent choice of electronics shops? Or a 'main' mall or something like that to go to, because I'd like to get a replacement as soon as possible. I'm guessing it's not going to be like the choice I'd have in Bangkok, but it'll have to do. Thanks in advance, Bails ...

You can see the pic here & thanks again to Chergood for uploading it to the Flickr pool. ...

Just a small message to say- come to Lin`s cafe in Savannakhet!

Posted by newbiedanielle on 2/11/2010 at 15:41

Hi, I just thought I`d write a short post about Savannahket in central Laos. I arrived a few days ago and just wanted to say its a great place to come. I have seen under 5 other tourists, and that was only at my guesthouse and the local museum- which is well worth a visit. There are a great number of trekking and cycling tours to choose from and everyone seems very friendly. The town itself is very laid back and relaxed-even more so than the rest of Laos and the food is great- lots of seafood, ...

Posted by tf_geckozy on 26/10/2010 at 09:58

I’ll introduce unkown direct bus between Sekong and Hue operated by Vietnamese aute company once a week from both sides, and this company is operationg direct bus for Vietnamese who are living and working in Sekong province and around it and it’s not daily service, so if you want to use this direct bus in Sekong or Hue, you have to adjust your schedule to this bus service. Contact with this company beforehand is better and maybe you can take this bus at Attapeu too with it. It’s detail ...

Have to get from Udon Thani to Vientiane...but I\'m on crutches

Posted by rasmoo on 31/10/2010 at 21:13

Hiya, Am on crutches in a leg brace at the moment, but really want to visit a friend briefly in Vientiane before moving away from Thailand. How difficult is it to get from Udon Thani to the Nong Khai border crossing on the various minibuses/limousines or even a taxi, for someone on crutches? Sounds crazy I know, but flights to Vientiane are pretty expensive at last minute purchase, Udon Thani on Air Asia just SO much cheaper from Bangkok....thanks for advice! ...

Luang Prabang Questions

Posted by TheNewGuy8 on 31/10/2010 at 11:24

Hi Everyone! I'm in Luang Prabang and had a few questions: 1) The night market here seems to be a higher caliber than the ones in Chiang Mai I've seen, but it also seems really expensive. The larger woven blankets seemed to be about $55 USD, and the beautiful wooden bowls/platters were about $25USD. For the wooden tableware I could probably get that at that price in America - am I missing something? 2) I am both simultaneously enchanted by this city and repulsed that it seems to exist s ...

8 days in Laos -starting in huay xai

Posted by roccstar on 31/10/2010 at 17:45

Hi, I will travel to Laos in the end of November. I will start my trip in Chiang Rai, so I will enter the country in huay xai. I will have 8 days until I will take a flight from LP to Ha Noi. My first plan was to take the boat down the mekong and then to spend the rest in LP, including 2-3 days of trekking. From what I read in this forum, I understand that 7 days in LP would be too long. Now I consider to go to Luang Nam Tha first (2-3 days) and do the trekking in that area. Afterwards I would ...

Wooden platters/bowls - A deal?

Posted by TheNewGuy8 on 31/10/2010 at 22:53

Hi All. I'm in luang prabang for another 2 nights. at a few shops and at the market I saw these beauuutiful wooden serving platters/bowls. They're made of Ebony/Mahogany/Teak, etc. The ebony especially is beautiful. But they're all pretty expensive. The platters start at 150,000 to 200,000 kip. The vases are like 500,000. That seems super expensive - sort of similar to what I'd pay in america. Can this kind of wooden tableware be bought in Thailand? Is there anything I need to know abou ...
