Posted by Livingthedream on 4/7/2010 at 18:14

Im travelling to Laos in Oct, was planning to cross the border from Thailand at Huay Xai and get the slow boat down to LuangPrabang. However now were hoping to fit in the Gibbon experience too, how do you get to it from Huay Xai? and if we still want to get the slow boat whats the best way to go about it, after gibbon experience would we have to backtrack to Huay Xai and stay a night to catch boat in the morning? Thanks! ...

Crossing Laos on a small motorboat

Posted by WorldPhotographer on 2/7/2010 at 21:04

I'm traveling to Laos on a Photo Expedition in the Summer of 2011, and I'm thinking of visiting the villages along the Mekong River. Is it possible to navigate all the way from the North (somewhere near Luang Prabang, or even further upstream) to the South (till the border to Cambodja) in one of the small typical wooden rafts (with engine)? If not, is it possible to do it by stages, using another means of transport to make the connections (bicycle for example)? How easy and what kind of budge ...

Bus from Luang Prabang to Vang Vieng with 2 kids - need advice

Posted by alainj on 2/7/2010 at 17:52

I am planning to travel from Luang Prabang to Vang Vieng by bus with 2 kids (8 year olds). Because of the two kids, I would like to find a way to make sure the trip (5+ hours) is reasonably pleasant. So after reading many threads on this forum, I am debating between a VIP bus and renting a mini-van. The VIP bus would be fine but I keep reading stories about A/C not working, sitting on plastic chairs, etc. Would anyone be able to recommend a good travel agency in LP where I could either boo ...

Land border crossing from northern Laos to northern Vietnam

Posted by hfergu on 23/6/2010 at 10:14

Does anyone have information on how to do this border crossing. I want to connect from Laos to loop into Sa Pa. The travel guides I've looked at have said it is pretty difficult, and travelers I've met in Vietnam have said that friends of theirs did it successfully but with much difficulty. I'm thinking it might be much simpler and quicker to fly from Luang Prabang to Hanoi and then just take the train. ...

Starting in Paske

Hello all, just joined! My route is Vietnam - Cambodia - Laos - North Thailand - Flight to South Thailand - Bangkok - Singapore. I'm on my way to Siem Reap tomorrow and I plan on staying there a few days to check out the temples. I did a bit of reading and weighed up my options and decided I would fly to Laos rather than backtrack on myself and go through all the hassle. I'm flying with Laos Airlines and I'm going to Pakse . I've did some reading and note taking - I've yet to pick up my La ...

Villa Senesouk vs. Thatsaphone Villa in Luang Prabang

Posted by callarda on 20/6/2010 at 22:28

So I need to spend a few nights in Luang Prabang and want a midrange option that is near temples but not directly next to lots of night life noise. (Im Ok with gongs and chanting but not loud partiers....) It seems like both Villa Senesouk and Thatsaphone Villa fit the bill in this regard. Anyone have a recommendation of which location is better for ambience if I want to interact with monks a lot? Also, is either one better in terms of comfort and services? (I will probably need to leave ...
