Track from Phonsavan to Paksan ?

Posted by pimprenelle on 1/4/2010 at 03:26

Hello everybody ! ;) I'm preparing our rip in Laos (september/october 2010), and we'd like to reach Paksan "directly" from Phonsavan:(without coming back to Vientiane) Is it possible? (we'll have a 4x4) If yes, how long is it? I'm afraid it'd be a little "muddy", as it's the end of rainy season... Thank you for your answers (and sorry for my bad english...i'm from France!lol) Christine ...

Where to go in Southern Laos

Posted by Handy on 4/5/2010 at 01:42

Hey all, My girlfriend and I are arriving in Luang Prabang on August 8th, planning to bus it to Siem Reap where we are catching a flight to HCMC on August 29th. We'll spend a couple of days in each of LP, Vang Vieng and Vientiane , leaving Vientiane southbound around the 15th or 16th. We are planning to spend 2 or 3 nights at Si Phan Don, and to leave there for Cambodia around the 23rd. I'd appreciate some advice on an itinerary between Vientiane and Si Phan Don, which will be 4-5 ...

Hotel & Private Guide Recommendations

Posted by chantelita on 2/5/2010 at 11:44

Hi, My boyfriend & I will be visiting Laos in late June into early July of this year. We are looking for hotel recs in the $20-$40 range in Vientiane, Vang Vieng, and Luang Prabang. Also, if there were any other super special hotels that anyone has stayed at anywhere else in the country, we'd love to hear about it, as our itinerary is not set in stone just yet. Also, we've used private guides (with transportation) before in Bali, Vietnam & Cambodia and really liked the option. Does anyo ...

Vientiane to Luang Prabang and back

Posted by babiguling on 15/4/2010 at 14:03

Hi Im thinking of catching a flight to Vientiane from Kuala Lumpur. I mainly want to see Luang Prabang and wanted to know how long I should spend going to Luang Prabang and then back to Vientiane. I'm hoping this can be done in about a week to ten days, is that enough time? I need to be back in Vientiane in order to catch a night train to Bangkok. Also, is it worth it to stop in Vang Vieng with such a limited trip such as this? Any suggestions are much appreciated. ...

Boats not running from Huay Xai to Pakbeng

Posted by somtam2000 on 16/2/2010 at 10:43

Due to an "incident" involving a luxury cruiser on the Mekong River (some travel agents here in Huay Xai are saying it sunk, others that it is "broken") all boat travel between Huay Xai and Pakbeng has been suspended due to low water levels. I've been told that boat travel from Pakbeng to Luang Prabang continues as per normal. If you're in Huay Xai and want to get the boat you need to go north to Luang Nam Tha then Udomxai and south to Pakbeng to get on the boat -- I'd say not worth ...

Travelling by boat in Laos, an update

Posted by somtam2000 on 1/3/2010 at 16:45

I'm just wiping off the dust, having just handed back my bike, 960km older, in Luang Nam Tha, and here's a little update on the boats according to either travel agents here in LNT, my own experience or other traveller reports. Boat on the Nam Tha river: not running. Boat from Huay Xai to Luang Prabang: not running Here are ones that are running. Trip time based either on my own experience or what other travellers who actually caught the boat said. Note agents in each town routinely say ...

VIDEO: The slow boat trip from Hat Sa to Muang Khua

Posted by somtam2000 on 13/3/2010 at 08:32

This was my first attempt at video, so excuse the shaky hand and the out of focus bit when I tried to zoom it. Those who have been on this river in wet notice may notice just how clear the water is -- in the wet it is the colour of coffee with milk. The music is by a Khmer artist, Ros Sereysothea and the song "Chnam oun dop prammuy" translates as "I'm 16". Nothing to do with Laos I know -- it just happened to be what I was listening to as the time and seemed like a good fit. It is a be ...

Floating the Mekong from Laos to Cambodia

Posted by rsthomas on 11/8/2008 at 09:20

Greetings all! I was wondering if there is a way to float down the Mekong from Laos and into Cambodia. I am going to be traveling in Laos from Bokeo to Luang Prabang to Vang Vieng to Vientiene. From Vientiene I want to head to Siem Reap in Cambodia. However rather than flying or bussing, I thought it would be really cool to take a river trip from Laos into Cambodia. Is this possible?? Have any of you done it?? If so, can you please take the time to explain to me the best way. Thank you ...
