Posted by christay2009 on 24/2/2010 at 00:03

http://women.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/women/article7036794.ece It was published in todays edition of The Times in the UK within the separate pull out supplement. I've noticed SE Asia getting more attention in the press recently, last week was a 4 page article, again in a Times supplement, on Cambodia's upper class, in particular, the high life enjoyed by their children. ...

Exchanging Kip before leaving Laos?

Posted by sl12 on 19/2/2010 at 00:54

Sorry if this seems like an obvious answer to most, but from what I've read I havn't been able to tell if you can exchange kip within Laos? Do you have to estimate how much you'll need while in the country and if you have some left over, too bad you have to spend it there, or can you exchange your kip back to baht or some other currency before exiting? Thanks! ...

Lao Airlines & ECCR

Posted by BruceMoon on 30/6/2009 at 10:17

Over the past couple of years, Travelfish observers have pondered whether purchase of Lao Iar tickets is best via the 'official' site (with all the hassles that that entails) or through the (apparently cheaper) agency located in France. Note that Lao Air are stating on their website that their relationship with the French 'agent' has been terminated: http://www.laoairlines.com/ It would be a brave person that now booked online through lao-airlines.com. Cheers ...

I'm off on a short jaunt through some of Laos in Feb/March. Will be visiting Phongsali , Sainyabuli (particularly Hong Sa for the pachyderm party) and Hua Phan. These are all fairly little visited and off the main traveller trail. If anyone will be in the region and would be keen to meet up for a couple of iced BeerLaos, let me know. Plan wise I'm looking at entering via Huay Xai, then Xieng Kok and LNT, Hong Sa, Phongsali (some backing and forwarding) then across to Hua Phan prov, then ...

Phongsali Extreme

Posted by somsai on 5/2/2010 at 10:57

Here's the hook. " when I arrived, I already felt as a stirring "electric" in the village. Many are drunk. A woman dancing alone, barefoot on the mud, it seems "elsewhere", as in a trance. In some places there are altercations, some even fought violently with blows from fists and logs. And a gun. Everything went very quickly A woman screamed, a man too. A shot was fired. The woman was shot. She fell in the mud. The bullet went through his neck, blood spreading on the wetland. It screams, it ...

Flights into Laos- Best way?

Posted by Karlap on 3/2/2010 at 11:15

Hello! I will be in Chiang Mai around the 19th of March and am planning on heading to Luang Prabang. Unfortunately I do not think I have the time to take the slow boat and I'm a bit afraid of the fast boat. With that said- I was wondering if anyone has experience with booking flights to Luang Prabang. I have looked up the price on the Laos airlines website. Would it be best for me to book in advance through the website or is it just the same to book while I am in Chiang Mai. Does a ...

Locally owned accommodation in LP

Hi all, Firstly, thanks for all the information in this forum, which has been so useful to me in planning my trip. I'm going to be in Luang Prabang for a few days in mid-Feb and am looking to book somewhere to stay. I've seen a lot of nice looking mid-range places but a lot of them seem to be owned by foreigners - I was wondering if any of you could recommend some nice places that are Lao-run and owned? I'd much rather put my money into local hands! Any suggestions welcome. Thanks!! ...

Does a flight still exist between Pakse and Siem Reap?

Posted by Dkirzner on 23/1/2010 at 14:08

Hi there, I have found a flight from Pakse to Siem Reap on the Siem Reap airlines website (also advertised on the homepage) - however I am unable to book it as you cannot go through the booking process (i.e. you cannot click on the listed flight). Bangkok airlines is no better (it does say on the SR airline website that you can book there too). Does anyone have any idea if this flight is still available? The airport is supposedly now open (1st of November). Any hinters would be gre ...
