Walking from village to village on the Bolaven Plateau?

Posted by jesseroth on 16/12/2007 at 06:22

I'd like to actually walk from village to village on the Bolaven Plateau and stay in villages overnight - has anyone done this, with or without a guide? Travelfish says there are 273 tribal villages in Sekong - does anyone know if there's an area with small villages clustered 5-10 miles apart, and what it would be like to try to buy food or a homestay in them without a guide? If I need a local guide, does anyone have a recommendation? thanks ...

Pakse Medical Care

Posted by LanceDonna on 16/4/2012 at 01:37

We have had a number of travelers tell us that they could not find good medical care in Pakse, Laos. They are normally sent to the public hospital, which is below our first world standards. Adjoining the hospital is the International Poly Clinic and it is excellent. They have an English speaking staff, x-ray department and lab testing abilities. The clinic has modern facilities with spotless rooms, if you need to be admitted. When you are facing the public hospital, to your left, at the end ...

Ban Na Elephant Observation Tower

Posted by luciehayes on 15/12/2006 at 17:07

We recently had a fantastic experience on this trip from Vietiane. Organising it through a tour company, or calling Ban Na village, it is possible to arrange for a couple of guides to take you to the observation tower on the edge of the Phao Khuey National Park and then spend the night there awaiting wild elephants. Our trip was well organised through the staff at Ban Pako Guesthouse/Bungalows (another good stay within an hour of Vientiane). Our guides were great and looked after us wel ...

We spent Christmas 2011 in Don Khone (the southernmost of the 4,000 islands) and wanted to travel into Cambodia via Dom Kralor (the only land border between Laos and Cambodia) on 28th December. There were a number of adverts around Don Khone for the VIP bus from Pakse /Siphandon to various destinations in Cambodia and a number of people were selling tickets but all were essentially for the same service (Paramount Angkor Express). We're not bothered about a VIP bus but it seemed to be the ...
