I do not want to see the usual metropolitan places, like malls and shopping centres. I would like to see some off-beat places, those which make going to Malaysia worthwhile. ...

Please be cautious hiking to monkey beach (why health insurance is the most important thing you buy

Posted by antoniamitchell on 16/6/2016 at 04:27

Hi everyone. The various write ups on the hiking path to monkey beach can make it seem quite easy (40 min, 30 if you're a fast walker, etc)... just a walk in the park. The reality is, despite the park having actually improved the trail in the past year or two, this is not the west. A large part of the trail is a narrow dirt and mulch track cut into the sides if a hill, occasionally litered with fallen branches, logs and rocks to step over or clamber over. All it takes is one hiking boot slippi ...

Motorbiking Malaysian Borneo or Sulawesi

Posted by Abi2016 on 5/6/2016 at 02:39

Hi all, I am looking for a travel buddy to join me on a motorbike trip around either Sulawesi (Indonesia) or Malaysian Borneo. I am relatively flexible in terms of my travel options, and haven't decided yet which of the two would be best. From what I've read online, long term motorbike rental (for up to a month) seems to be possible in both places. The dates I'm thinking of doing this are (approx) 17 June - 17 July. I am a 27 year old female from the UK. Im travelling alone, and have previou ...

Getting Indonesian visa in Penang

Posted by lcybul789 on 19/4/2016 at 01:41

Hey y'all! Super easy and fast visa process in Penang , Malaysia for a 60-day single-entry Indonesian tourist visa for Indonesia. 60-day single-entry Indonesian visa process in Penang: I stayed at a clean, affordable hostel in Georgetown (Couzi Couji) and took the 101 bus from the (Jedi/Jetti?) ferry / bus terminal. Maybe about a 30-40 minute bus ride. Get off at Gurney Drive on the corner of Jalan Pemenang and Jalan Kelawai. If you're going in the direction of the bus and looking at Jalan ...

Malaysia, Alternative East Coast Beach

Hey all, I'm going to Malaysia in 7 weeks time. My plan is to visit Langkawi, Penang, Melaka and KL. I have 18 days and I would like to stay at a nice east coast beach town. The reviews I have seen for hotels on the Perhentian islands really put me off. Can anyone recommend a nice east coast place to stay? Somewhere for 3 or 4 days relaxing by the sea. Not too far from an airport. I will be flying in from Penang, then heading to KL after. Thanks in advance Conor ...

A Few Questions about KL, Penang and Langkawi

We are travelling to Malaysia for three weeks in Dec/Jan. We have 10 days in Borneo and from Dec 31 to Jan 8 in KL, Langkawi and Penang . We are a family of four with two children (5 and 3). - With only 9 days, what would you recommend in terms of seeing two or all three of these locations? - Is 2 days in KL (farm in the city, towers, city center park), 4 days in Langkawi (beach, spice garden?) and 2 days in Penang (sight-seeing around town) enough? or would you do it differently? -How dif ...

border crossing by bicycle

Posted by mumpat on 16/11/2015 at 04:21

I know that being holder of a Belgian passport I'm granted a visa-free entry to Malaysia for 90 days. But, as I am travelling by bike I will cross the Thailand-Malaysia border over land. Last year I had a bad experience at the Laos-Thailand border where I received a visum for only 15 days because I arrived in Thailand over land (when you arrive by plane you receive 30 days). So, I want to know if I cross the border over land I will get the same Visum on Arrival (90 days) as someone who arrives ...

KL for 4 days?

Posted by hemmingway on 10/11/2015 at 08:50

Hey guys, What was meant to be a 2 hr layover now turned into a 4 day holiday in the Malaysian capital (Don't ask lol). Been to KL before and did all the major touristy things so now I'm looking for suggestions more about the cultural, artistic, gastronomical aspect of this city. I'm thinking good food places (cafes, street-food etc), quirky markets, eclectic bars, funky music venues, alternative galleries, places where locals actually go and maybe throw in some outdoorsy things to do such as h ...

This year we wish to travel nine weeks (jan +feb) through South-Thailand and Malaysia. We are not obliged to a planned route, anyreservation or a predetermined program... we love freedom... The only thing which is fixed is our return-ticket from Kuala Lumpur to Belgium on 4 march '16. We are a bit worried about the period around Chinese Lunar New Year. Is ...

10 days in Sarawak - Longhouse stay?

Posted by DrDreidal on 30/1/2015 at 20:30

Hi all, As part of our six month stint through Southeast Asia, we will be spending 10 days in Sarawak. Currently, all we have planned is some time in Kuching, Bako NP, and a visit to the Orangutan sanctuary. I would very much like to visit and stay in a longhouse during my stay, but have heard mixed reviews about the one close to Kuching. Can anyone recommend a good area to visit some more traditional longhouses that would be doable in a 10 day visit? Thank you! ...
